I was like "Hey, cool" when they announced the FF VII remake.
Then I was like: "Hmm, I don't have a PS4."
And then I was like: "I...don't actually think I have the time to waste on that game like I did almost 20 years ago. I wasted so much of my life playing that thing...."

Yeah, I like the idea of Square-Enix digging back to old games, but if they don't do some work on the dialogue, I'm not going to invest in it. I liked Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Knights of the Old Republic, The Last of Us, and any other game I've purchased in the past 5 years because they were geared to my narrative sensibilities.
That said: PS4. The Last of Us 2 will likely be another Sony exclusive, and there are probably more in store. PS4 seems to bring games of better narrative quality, and that's what I now look for.

The PS4 Last of Us bundle came out right after I dropped a wad on a new laptop.

^^ this. Also my reaction to Horizon Zero Dawn and The Last Guardian.
Seriously, though. We just had an E3 where they gave a release date for the Last Guardian, unveiled Kingdom Hearts III, announced Shenmue III, gave us some info on the new Mass Effect game, and threw in a couple total curveballs like Horizon Zero Dawn.
If they had announced Half-Life III, I would've started checking TV listings to see if Firefly was still on the air in this strange, wondrous alternate reality I had apparently fallen into.

I bought the PS4 solely for The Last of Us and (when it comes out) Uncharted Remastered and the new one. Last of Us was definitely worth it.

My opinion is personal, but, based on my personal experience, I can say with no hyperbole that the story in The Last of Us is the best I've ever played through. Ever.
