Oh, it's there. It's the second one down under IPs.

You may want to note that Reno is Second Edition WoD/Chronicles of Darkness. It seems to be the only one on the list.

        Am I the baddie?
        Yes. Always yes.

ChampionsMUSH still needs to be added too.

Would a Wiki devoted to this be useful?

If you guys do that, allowing capsule descriptions and such would be a lovely addition.

So this is why I really want to convert us to phpBB. They have built-in pages/wikis on the forum and this list is exactly why. I just haven't had the free time lately to devote to the conversion.

Sorry, I haven't been following this conversation very closely.

Are we talking about a wiki for current games or a wiki in general? (And should we have a separate thread to discuss the specifics?).

From a logistics point of view I can set up anything, we got lots of space and cycles on this machine to run more stuff. What I don't want is have another thing to administrate, so ideally someone else would be doing the gruntwork while I just oversee from afar and take full credit just like I do for MSB.

Old Social games that I keep up since they have history:

Rhostshyl (Based on the Silverglass series)- rhostmush.com 4201 (founded 1989)
                      The Underground (A Labyrinth based mush) - rhostmush.com 7000 (founded 1996)

And for those who want contact with RhostMUSH itself:
                      RhostMUSH Development Hangout - iweb.localecho.net 4201

For current games. And @surreality could design it! And you could code it! And we would have kittens and cake and dancing nudes of all stripes! And I'm sure it would never, ever be out of date.

I have no problem setting up a wiki for people to post games live or dead categorized as such, and maintain a list of 'this is me and who I have been throughout the ages' stuff on their user pages if they want to that can be cross-linked to the games pretty easily to auto-populate and yadda yadda yadda.

Maintaining something like that is not problematic barring a basic 'only edit your own shit' ground rules on user pages, and a 'just the facts of a generic listing, keep the commentary and arguments on the forum' approach to the game listings. It's actually be less of a pain than all of the above to do and it's not like there are any judgment calls required there, so I'd have no issue doing that. <shrug>

The sticky wicket is getting our accounts here to work there. That is beyond my ken by several miles. Good luck with that. Supposedly it can be done, but I'm not going to pretend I even know where to start looking at the how.

                          Oh fucking well.

I'm deleting my entire reply because I came up with a better one.

What if instead of a MU Wiki we had a MU review site.

We could call it Rotten ToMUtoes.

I think the lists driven by the games themselves (like AresCentral Game Directory and the Evennia Game Index are a better way to go than a manually-maintained wiki. The problem we see with places like MudConnector is that nobody can be bothered to register their games there or update them as things change/close/etc.

If somebody could make something like that for Rhost/Penn, or even just work together to make a central directory, that would be ideal IMHO.

@jennkryst There's some way to do it. I dunno if nodeBB does, though. It's also possible to host a forum through a wiki; there are extensions for that. But meh. The stuff to do full support for a wiki + forum gets into all these social extensions for messaging with all the 'friends and foes' and all the rest in ways that just vibe squicky; there are 'shouts' and similar that just... allllll the nope.

                                  Oh fucking well.

We're looking at a nodeBB plugin. I'd like something central rather than 'oh you have to go to this other site and create another account...' because I know that gets annoying for folks.

For instance, starting by suggesting that somebody who is currently manually keeping this all up to date do it on a wiki where it's easier to get help and add and compile information?

I heard TinyMUX was no longer in active development and their website is kinda broken but anyway - yes also TinyMUX.

My point is that it would be a relatively trivial change to have those old servers do a daily check-in and report of directory info to a central server. We already have two such directories - why not put our heads together and make a unified one?

But if folks would rather spend their time on a manually-curated wiki... :shrugs: Their time, their prerogative.

                                          Probably so, yes.

I'm not unopposed. I'm just looking to avoid from this going from a 'oh look they updated things!' community resource to a 'omg you're the worst and you never update this fast enough and I have a lot of expectations about what you owe me for the low, low price of free!' in terms of formalization.

Though admittedly, the minute I made this list formalization done did the thing.

So if people can basically be cool, then I'm fine with putting this on a wiki.

My commentary is not served well by my subtlety. While it would be nice for this to be an easily maintained and updated thing, I’m not expecting any centralized anything for anyone. It has been tried by multiple people and the moment that they no longer feel like maintaining it, it slowly decays.

While it is the most super awesome that you’re doing this, anybody who expects you to be the brain behind it would be foolish. If it spurs people to maintain their own thing that would be awesome. A better maintaining system would not be perfect, but would be a bridge from the former to the latter.

Or I could leave well enough alone.
