(Let's have a generic thread looking for certain types of games. I can't recall if we already have something like it)

... Vampire: the Masquerade V5? Has anyone already looked into this, or are there any in the works?

I know of one that was being worked on, and talked about on the WoD 5th Facebook, called Dies Irae. But from what was being said about it, it was veering into a fair bit of custom content and focusing on some blood economy payments minigame type dea.

I have looked at it insofar as running a TT game V5, and also going 'okay, there are lots of cool things here, but there are also things that won't work on a MU* long term'.

There are missing Clans that people would constantly ask about (cue MUH SABBAT!). The concept of certain Loresheets would not work out on a MU* because some of them are meant to be 'a single character has this special trait'. The way Generation is decided (which is 'what fits your story, all players should be roughly the same Gen, but go hog wild if you feel you're up to it' would not work within the context of a MU* (but bolting back on the Generation background would be difficult with certain aspects of the game).

You'd have to leave out a few juicy bits to make it really work on a MU*. But the core system and overall conceits are viable, and the new metaplot and setting advancements, I feel, would do wonders to invigorate a game. But it would require a dedicated ST to really push the setting; Elders being Beckoned, characters with age limitations.

I think it's doable, but i don't know how the community would come to it, when they have shown pretty clearly that there is little interest in single-venue games.

For me, what about mecha and/or space fighty games? Particularly ones that aren't going to trot out *-Space systems as necessity.

I'm so sick of mecha that I never understood the genre. On the other hand, I would love to see a game with power armored suits that were more like Exo-Squad (I know, I've been saying this since George W. Bush was a compassionate conservative). Something akin to the M3 power armor theme, except as the entire plot device behind the theme.

That's one of my schemes, you know, take a single aspect of an M3 theme that's been implemented as a feature, and turn it into an entire game.

Mecha's just fun because there's so many variations. Or something like Wing Commander with space planes and pewpew. But whenever that come up 'Hey let's use <this overly complex softcoded space system!>' and I'm like 'interest lost, you have fun.' Exosquad is good stuff, and would fit for my tastes.

@arkandel I actually was working on this, first converting ThenoCode to Rhost, then converting from CofD to Vampire V5. I got the first part done, and before the second came, I jumped on Chontio. Thusly, my game is no more!

But I do have Thenocode converted to Rhost, if that is any more appealing to anyone than Thenocode on Mux.

When you're done being in a galaxy far, far away maybe you'll feel like helping people drink blood again! It'd be great to have the option of V5... I miss Vampire: the Masquerade dammit.

I was working on the background story for a space opera game in the genre of Robotech that uses e-frames and mecha. Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten much past the background writing for the setting. The game was to use FS3, which seemed best suited for pew-pew in space.

@chet Don't get me wrong, I like mecha - but I far more like the smaller power-armor style suits (Back in the day, for example, all my friends liked Alphas or Betas; and I loved me my Cylones)
That said, Heavy Gear was always a great setting for the smaller suits and the world was actually really compelling - basically something between Dune and Mortal Engines.

I'm sort of in the middle. I love Robotech and old mecha anime. I also love Battletech.

But I adore Exo-Squad, one of the best American-produced cartoons in my books. It's story line was compelling, as were most of its characters. Also, it's one of the first series where characters die, and their deaths become a focal point of the other episodes.

(I realize that animation is hardly ever considered "high performance," but this needs to change.)

It's a shame Exo-Squad was released for a short period only, before Universal Animation Studios shut down. Hopefully, with the success of Illumination, Universal can get about to re-releasing Exo-Squad's episodes so I can buy them.

Anyhow, I like space opera. A lot.

@ganymede I've been dreaming of making a Macross themed place for YEARS, I just never thought there'd be the player base for it.

Back in 1996, there was one: RobotechMUSH. I played there for a couple of years.

Be advised that I wasn't intending to make a Macross-themed place. I was going to borrow some elements and make up my own. It was a splendid idea, but one that, like others, I just didn't follow through on.

The other Macross MUs have had the problem of being heavily reliant on TV shows that a lot of people haven't seen. There've been a couple of Macross MUs and the Robotech MUSH that !@Ganymede mentioned. The problem becomes accessibility; how much of the convoluted Macross canon would someone need to know?

@bobotron Oh good point. Hell, I'd be happy with Robotech, or some other space opera, Mecha optional - but preferred.

I would love to have a single venue vampire game that was actually active. 😕 Having tried to build it, and got no help, it feels like a pipe dream.

@kumakun The question would also be 'Which Generation?'

'Savage RIFTS' can also provide a blueprint for converting Palladium Robotech to Savage Worlds, making it more MU-freindly.

@runescryer I've heard some buzz about Savage Rifts, but I haven't had the time to read the rules. My knee-jerk response to that question is Macross Saga, my favorite. But, I'm going to go out on a limb and say Invid Invasion because the world is so open and vaguely defined - and way open to interpretation. Robotech + Post-apocalyptic Survival? Could be some interesting stories there!

@kumakun I'm crossed between Macross and Invid as well (shut up Dana). Although, doing a Sentinels game could be a fun mix; REF vs. Invid, remenents of the Masters, & rogue Zentraedi.

I think it's more than doable, that it would be a blast.

The issue is many of the attempts lacked critical elements - either they were pure sandboxes (that never works out at least in terms of popularity), lacked distinguishing features (stock code taking none of the splat's specifics in mind) or little to none word of mouth.

My understanding was that your game used a homebrew system. That's the reason I didn't feel like assisting.

That, and I had no idea what sort of help you needed.

@runescryer Sentinels also has the advantage that it's not all scripted out. The original Robotech triumvirate pretty much stuck to Earth and was pretty jam packed in terms of timeline. Sentinels, they were out in the middle of nowhere space with a bunch of weird aliens.
They did cover a lot of it in the novels, but not everyone read those (They were good, though - I remember one of the coolest things being them explaining what happened to the SDF-1's fold generators), and there's still more than enough room for flexibility.
That said, though, if we're on the subject of anime I actually loved the Votoms world better than most of the other mecha-anime. One, it's small mech/power armor scale; and two, unlike the other settings where the mecha pilots were some elite class of warrior in the highest tech equipment available, Votoms soldiers were just regular grunts in mass produced suits that constantly broke down or had a better than average chance of exploding if you used particularly harsh language against them.
