You're still a dork for getting hung up on him talking at the speed of light while being okay with him, say, having a physical body while successfully traveling at the speed of light.

If you were going to suspend belief over anything in Doom, it should be that Scarecrow's fear toxin, however modified, would effect Hal Jordan to begin with as even when they're not 'suited up' the power rings have a passive effect of scanning for and removing toxins and foreign pathogens from their host's body unless actively instructed not to (like when they want to get drunk).

I am a dork. But at the same time, I clearly cut off my rant regarding that early on to just say the whole thing was stupid. If I had gone on, I would have pointed out all the bits and pieces that bothered me. I mean, I did state the whole thing was shit. πŸ˜›

Suspension of disbelief doesn't have to extend to the in story logic itself. They told me their setup then failed to utilize it, and in fact went with actions that directly ignore it.

It's bad writing, plain and simple.

I wish for spoiler tags cuz reasons.

The codex was "stored in his cells". That's good because to use his DNA to store other DNA would mean his DNA was possibly millions of times larger than needed, and mostly turned off, if there was a possibility of data compression. Cuz to store IN DNA you would write with DNA. So I assumed some nanocomputer or data crystal or whatever they used, copied into all cells.

I admit I am assuming that it's a whole copy every time, as I think there is way too much chance of loss due to injury and biological turn over. I can't think of any way that it is in his cells, unless it was meant that the codex was hidden in another dimension, and the key was made to be his bioprint or soul or whatever. They didn't say that.

I don't care that he is Superman otherwise. The same story logic could be used in any story featuring an alien from a culture capable of storing a civilizations worth of unique DNA inside a persons cells in any way.

It's lazy. Its a way to say Zod is a dick, but he didn't choose to have to go after Kal-el to save his species from extinction. Jor-el made sure that would be necessary.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

                Has anyone read the following:

                Trees
                Low
                Sex Criminals
                American Vampire
                Southern Bastards

Most of these are by Image, which puts out several others titles that I really love but I find myself on the fence about these titles and would appreciate feedback.

                Sex Criminals is A+ fantastic.

@Arkandel Fraction and Aja's run finally ended yesterday. Marvel delayed the last issue forever for some inexplicable reason that no one could explain (the creators were like, idek they have the issue) but it finally came out yesterday. A great wrap to a really fantastic run.

Marvel Studios did it again. Ant-Man is a better GOTG than GOTG. Minus the soundtrack. Between GOTG and CA:TWS.

Yes. You were talking about lazy writing ruining the ability to suspend disbelief. I cited to the introduction of midi-chlorians into the Star Wars universe to explain the "unique" nature of Anakin Skywalker. It was a horrible idea, and a product of awful writing.

Leaving aside the issue of lazy writing, this gets passed around as true, but isn't. The biological component of Force use, and midi-chlorians in particular, are part of Lucas' original expanded universe notes for authors who were going to write EU stuff.

Which is to say that while Anakin being Darth Jesus, complete with virgin birth, was explained as a product of the midi-chlorians, they weren't introduced to explain his situation. That probably doesn't make it any less lazy, I guess, if one sees the entire concept as a lazy one.

I started to read American Vampire and then stopped because I hated it. Although it's one of those works that I'm sure I would have loved as an angry teenager. If you can appreciate that sort of thing maybe it'll work for you but it made me cringe way too hard to get into the grimdark edgy asshole protagonist thing.

I agree, but it's still an example of Power Rings Don't Have To Make Sense Ever No Not Even Then Not Ever and how anybody ever using "But then someone with a Power Ring did <insert absolutely anything>." as a reason to lose suspension of disbelief is just being an asshat. Like @Coin.

Remember that time a Green Lantern contained a supernova inside a green force bubble? Or how veteran Green Lanterns can enter and leave black holes, even having conversations while they're there?

I ended up ordering Sex Criminals today. It does look good.

American Vampire attracts me because its Stephen King, which when he's good he's great. (I loved the unabridged version of The Stand and have since high school). But then again, when he's bad then its really bad. I also associate with him with Joe Hill, because that's his son but I have weird feelings about Locke & Key. I liked the first couple volumes and then I got bored with it.

I just finished Chew, which was great. I guess its coming out as a movie soon, Steve Yuen from The Walking Dead plays the lead. Felicia Day is the love interest. I'm not sure how I feel about that pairing (I mean I don't really care that much but) but the series was great.
