BESM 4th Edition KS
-
I know we have some BESM fans here on the board so I thought I'd share this release about BESM 4th Edition.
-
I've heard BESM 3rd is flexible enough to apply to pretty much whatever genre you want. Yes? No? Will 4e be the same?
And can we fast-track it to 5th Edition so that we have at least three game lines that "5E" could refer to?
-
I honestly have no idea. I haven't read anything on it beyond the fact that it exists. I was thinking the same thing though, I'm quite happy with my 3E copy of BESM. They'll have to do something pretty nifty to get me to switch.

It is. I'm not entirely sure just yet what 4e has coming in terms of rule changes, but 3e was very flexible. You could easily use it to recreate any genre or create your own. It's definitely a keeper in my collection.

Having played 1st, 2nd, 2nd Revised, d20 and 3rd. They are all pretty flexible. Third seems to incorporate, albeit loosely, the concept of races and archetypes(or classes) in the framework of packages. While they had these in revised on, they were not as 'defined' as they are in third. The main setting for 3rd was the selling point for me. It is basically an Anime Version of Stargate mixed with some other things. Basically you are from a world, which defines everything about your character, and then you can travel to other worlds where your magic maybe unique or even outlawed. Fun stuff. My gaming group ran it for several months going between worlds -- Fighting Dragons with Summonable Mecha and using Hard Core Magic against Alien invasion Mecha.
I can't wait to see what 4th Edition does.
ps. Any game with a source book called "Cute & Fuzzy Cockfighting Seizure Monsters" can't be all that bad, right?

I will welcome it to sit next to Shadowrun, while we ignore D&D - everything wrong with 3.5, but somehow WORSE and Vampire: the Nazi Edgelord edition.
-
ETA: In case the gif doesn't make it obvious, I am confused. What the fuck are you all on about?
-
@TiredEwok There are people who are on this bandwagon about Vampire 5th Edition being some kind of alt-right neo Nazi nonsense. It's complete hyperbolistic bullshit and is better in a different thread. emgrs someone in Sweden said a vampire might be alt right and ebervvvrrrryone in Sweden mrrrst be neo Nazi.
-
That's cool. Wasn't looking to derail the conversation about BESM, was just curious. Happy to move on.
-
Definately better discussed elsewhere. My main point was a rushed BESM and then a new 5e would be the 4th big/modern game with 5 editions. Except maybe FFG Star Wars. And FFG L5R.
...
I didn't think this through.
Edit cause words are hard.
-
So I looked over the Facebook and Twitter feeds, I'm guessing they are introducing racial packages and classes. I'm kick starting this one, so I'll share more when I know more.
-
@Seamus
Those things were in the core book of BESM 3rd Edition as well; it gave you pre-created Attributes and CP values for races, classes, or other packages. -
@Bobotron Yes they were, however, I am getting the feeling it is a bit more pronounced in this system and not optional, like they were in 3rd.
-
Skimming over the twitter announcements, I see it's Tri-Stat again (still? Dunno if they ever left it...) I need more information!
-
So the preview is now out. Yay! So it really looks like just a bunch of re-balancing. I can't wait to get my copy. I'm kick starting this on Monday.
-
Someone please explain to me what an anime/manga RPG means and how it is any different from a "movie rpg" or a "book rpg."
-
@Rinel It's an RPG that is designed in such a way as to easily elicit the ever-vague FEEL that you might have while watching or reading Anime or Manga.
The biggest issue is that it is a whole industry lumped into one, while a Movie RPG would be an RPG around a specific Movie or Cinematic Universe... or a book RPG being an RPG around a specific Book of Series.
-
That's sort of what I mean. Like, anime and manga are media, not genres. Dragon Ball Z is not Violet Evergarden is not Howl's Moving Castle (I know it was a book first). I don't understand how the "feel" of some adult slice of life anime is supposed to be at all similar to the "feel" of the latest shoujo self-insert fantasy.
-
It was made by a guy who wanted to RP out his various anime desires with a single RPG engine. So he made one. It's really just a generic RPG system with anime fluff slipped over it. He says he modeled some stuff off of traditional Asian philosophies such as harmony between Mind, Body, and Soul(the three attributes in the system) but, really, the "anime" portion is more setting than system.

If it's as hated as DnD 4e I could see this happening quickly.
