It's where you putcher weed ...

A topic for all things cannibis-related and bad SNL skits.

I got high on a weed for the first time this weekend and I am suddenly really pissed off by anyone who has ever played an over the top dumb pothead. Looking at you, Jules.
Like, damn. All I did was get really chill about everything, eat for like four hours, and have a nap.
Can you actually smoke yourself retarded? Are past over the top pothead portrayals accurate? What is life?

Yes, somewhat, an almost unending series of grinding disappointments.

@SilentHills During the rescue op, Alecstazi smacked the haze out of Jules' stupid mouth.

tbh most people don't know how to RP being high.
source: have done more than just weed in my 20s.
HOWEVER, some people do have negative reactions to weed (paranoia, bad trips, etc) and I like to think the over-the-top portrayals are just this... people who have bad reactions (either due to an allergy, a bad reaction to chemical imbalances, etc) and shouldn't be smoking it in the first place. -
@Auspice I often wonder if the overuse of marijuana causes stupidity, or if stupidity causes the overuse of marijuana.
-
My first reaction to weed was to find everything hysterical, want to eat everything, and then sleep. I kept laughing at some violent horror movie and was like.. dude, this is fucked up. It's not funny and I can't stop laughing.
THEN...
I maybe did too many edibles the first time I tried those. That's when I went mission impossible about being TOO HIGH. I googled (exact wording) 'How to get unhigh' -- Then I went down stairs pressed against a wall so 'no one would suspect'. Then I took a /hot/ shower. Yeah, yeah. Then I got the spins. Finally, I just fell asleep.

The original "The Evil Dead' is pretty damn scary --
-- unless you're high out of your mind, and then it's freakin' hilarious, and I call bullshit on anyone that claims otherwise.
-
I mean, when you're high with your friends? Stupid shit is pretty fuckin' hilarious. That's about standard.
However, one thing being high does is make you more susceptible to the general mood of your surroundings. People who have had a 'bad trip' (mostly happens with acid, but can happen with most drugs) did because they were in a bad environment. People arguing, they didn't feel safe, etc etc.
So someone, for example, RPing being high and jokey and giggly and having a good time during combat and stress? Either their character is a fuckin' idiot or they don't know what they're doing.
It's why the best highs are when you're with friends having a good time. Because you just feed off of each other.

@Derp I recommend the animated version of The Tick. It suddenly makes flawless sense.

Habitual pot use leads to different effects, too. I've been in social circles where some people smoked weed every day, more or less all day. They rarely got giggly high unless they took waaaaaay more than usual or added in alcohol.
People react to weed in a lot of different ways, but yeah, it's always a little suspect when a character presented as a habitual user is rendered totally useless by weed.
-
tbh it’s like that with, like, every drug on earth, mu* people almost always just go with whatever popular mainstream media conception of something is
-
I'll be honest. To this day, Alan Tudyk's character in (the 2007) Death at a Funeral is one of the best depictions of being fucking high as shit that I've seen in a movie.

Yeh. My mom's husband smokes pretty much all the time and he's usually more functional when he's had some than when he hasn't. He has to smoke a lot for that shit to even start doing something to him at this point.

whoops now I know how my character liked kindergarten!
If you used this thread for a little bg help, the character liked kindergarten, enjoyed glueing and all, Teletubbies was all the rage with no words and bright colors, then the first time they smoked the ganja, Teletubbies had all new meaning and became all the rage, again.

I have smoked my fair share of pot. My dad used to get me to smoke with him at like 2am, so we could both get some sleep.
I smoke now when I'm in such amounts of pain, that there's nothing else I can do. (I have no real painkillers.) It makes me want Raspberry Toaster Strudels (every damn time), and makes me want to just lay around and space out.
Because I smoke it so sparingly, it doesn't take much, but if I smoke too much (like I do with my sisters), I get that whole 'oh shit everyone is gonna know' paranoia going.
However, I have a friend who smokes weed every day, not /quite/ all day, but close (medical marijuana for his pain, and he grows his own as he lives in Cali). That mofo can still get so high he forgets what character he is, in the video game he's playing - when the character icon is on the screen. It never fails to amaze me (and make me jealous). But when things start to get sour, he will slam the snark/nasty hammer down - he's super reactive to that stuff.
-
I'm allergic to smoking marijuana. Even when I eat edibles, I always have a weird reaction where it feels like my whole body has that tingling pain where your foot fell asleep and if you put any pressure on it? That exact feeling, all over my body. It's not fun.

I play Brianna on Arx as a functional, athletic person who regularly smokes that game's version of weed to unwind. As a habitual user, she knows her limits and prefers to remain functional.
IRL, I use cannabis to help with chronic pain caused by benign nerve tumors, and I'm very much the same way.

Don't have tumors, do have a good amount of surgical stainless steel pretending that it's bone for me. The choice I have been given is weed or rest-of-my-life narcotics (in that narcotics is where we are with pain management every single time I try to pursue it, that's where we land, and I don't WANNA). It is 100% possible do as @tek says here, to understand your dosage, strain, and body, and remain a functional human being in everyday life. It doesn't necessarily make you stupid, paranoid, OR giggly if you use it chronically but responsibly. Pretty much every body (as in the meatsuit everybody inhabits) is different.
ETA: Last doctor was kind of funny. "Have you tried marijuana? You have, and it works? Why are we here again?"
ETA2: it's kind of a lie. I could also choose to stop walking permanently. That would also solve my problem.
