Someplace to play?

Any good games out there where it isn't like pulling teeth to get RP? I typically like modern and fantasy-esque games. But I'm willing to try other settings if chargen is easy or if someone will help me.

I've recently started playing on Arx.
I've been there a couple weeks now and, even in my GMT-cursed RP time, I've never had a problem finding play. Plus, the people are generally very helpful with things like game lore and commands.
I'm sure it has it's problems (there is indeed a whole thread dedicated to them) but from an always-on-for-RP view, it's been good for me so far.

Question about Arx!
So, I have previously tried to play but I'm not in a space where I can be online a lot during working hours. My experience with Arx at the time was that this wasn't conducive to getting to do stuff with plot on Arx in the rostered character I picked up.
I don't know enough about Arx to make a new PC and would probably pick up another rostered character but I'm worried about not being able to keep up again. Is the pace still kinda nuts or is it really specific to roster characters and faction or has it generally settled down?

@Cobaltasaurus I think what you see on Ares central is about all there is out there with the exception of Arx and WoD games. I imagine there are a lot more private games on Ares than the list shows and people are just sandboxing with their friends.
Sorry, I wish I had better news. I've been looking for a new game to play for a long time and haven't really found anything.
@GangOfDolls you're going to get mixed reponses on that question. I think Arx is difficult for a casual player to get involved, but YMMV.

@GangOfDolls I think Cobalt just recently went inactive on Arx, too, so it may be nicer to seek out answers on that in one of the Arx threads just so she doesn't have to sort through it here.

@bear_necessities I can confirm there are a number of private/sandbox games out there that don't advertise publicly for various reasons.
That said, I've found Ares Central to be about the best resource for new games lately.

I'll stop by tonight or tomorrow! I had poked in once but that was before I'd ever cgen'd something with ares and had really bad anxiety with making a character in fs3. Should be able to do it this time.
@GangOfDolls @Roz is correct in, I'm currently taking a break from Arx-- it may last a month, it may last another couple of days. I'm not positive, I'm resisting going back until I know I'm going back because I want to play and not because I'm trying to fill a void that the stress in my RL is causing.
But from my understanding arx is in a bit of a flux right now where staff are changing how storytelling is going to be doing-- I don't really know the details on that since I've only heard about it second hand. So you might have a better time getting involved this go around.

I was kinda hoping there might be a place someone is playing that I could hook directly in with someone.

I had someone else take over stating my characters in the first two ares games I played. The third I took a roster, then once I knew people were nice (@JinShei and @L-B-Heuschkel to be specific) I took the dive to do it it myself. That was positive enough that I've done it myself multiple times now. My last one took about 5 minutes to stat, and that was on the high side.
So, I get the anxiety. If you need hand holding (please don't take offense at that, I mean it 100% in empathy for anxiety and needing the support myself to get over it) do reach out.

ETA: I figure anyone who clicked the link has figured that out already, but still worth noting for the thread at large. Current status is 'still setting up code, making sure it's not broken, etc.' so it's not ready yet for dozens of people hopping aboard. Soon, though.

@Roz I've tried TN and as much as I wanna like it b/c I think the staff there are pretty awesome, the game itself just overwhelms me so badly. But I do highly recommend to other people.
I'm currently gonna work on a character for GH.
