I know we have a few of them. Anyone know how our community members who live in Texas are doing right now?

@cobalt My friend in the Dallas area was subject to the rolling blackouts, but was otherwise not severely impacted -- no flooding, etc.

I haven't heard from the Texans yet that I know post around here, hope they're doing well.

I know power and water are slowly returning. Folks that way are hitting a big issue with the pipes (no basements, freezes, and breaks, faster in crawl spaces); not simply in fixing them either but for those that know what to do, stores are running out of plumbing supplies pretty quickly too.

If anyone has links to fund raising sites for plumbers (Habitat for Humanity like groups helping folks out) or money for supplies for self doers, that might be good to share. Or any other needs, food/water other supplies in general, posting those might send a few donors that way.

I'm just a surge protector doing my job, sir.

I'm more concerned with anyone who's going to get raked over the coals with outrageous electric bills. I mean, I hope they're okay an all, but I'm angry on their behalf for getting bent over like that.

Deregulation works....except when it doesn't. Then it's terrible.

Had a real shitty week last week and still waiting to get out from under the boil water notice, but I made it through okay. A lot of other people lost power for a lot longer than I did, so I consider myself lucky.

Argent, Baby Magpie, and myself are all well. We didn't lose power and as of yesterday the boil water notice was lifted.

I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity.

My family and I made it through fine. We have a generator (our power was out four days) and a 4x4 truck that I have traction appropriate tires for. We spent the time delivering water and food to those trapped in our rural East Texas areas. I towed about 20 people out from ditches or from ice slicked roads they couldn't pass. Gave rides to people to emergency shelters they couldn't reach.

Texas does really well within our communities (at least rural communities) and we used FB to help and coordinate help to make sure anyone in need was taken care of. Wellness checks. Etc.

I was lucky enough that I am zombie apocalypse and prepared that my family never had a concern and we were able to do a lot of good for the community I'm in as well. Most the area still needs to boil water and so that's the only current concern is outreach to those in hard to reach places or that otherwise might not be checked on to make sure they can drink okay.

That is so awesome. Neighbors being able to help neighbors is the shining star I take out of things like this. ❤ ❤

It was friggin cold. But a whole lot of fun driving Jeeps in the snow. Didn't have issues with rolling blackouts or anything like that. However, now that I'm back at work, people are telling me some really horrible stories about being without power for 72 or more hours. There were less 'rolling blackouts' than actual 'shutting off the power'. Seems to have effected lower income areas than higher income.

My favorite Texan has reported in. She doesn't come around these parts that I know of, but she's OK now! It was a really rough few days from what I heard.
