Space chicanery! Trying to find, pass the word, etc etc.
-
I think I know who you're looking for. How would she know you, Jenn, and I'll pass it on to her.
-
Best guess would be as Lyn Rathan? Or, if she prefers, 'folks who want to annoy Cujo'.
-
She isn't remembering you offhand, but then it's been a while. I was there myself for a very short time before leaving -- mostly because I was lured there under false pretenses and then got told that I was basically consigned to being a stormtrooper at best. I exited stage left at that point.
-
I recall nothing about forced-Stormtrooper-ness. There is currently a 'forced civilian' thing going on, because they're waiting to see the state of the galaxy in the movie before picking up anything non-Nar Shaddaa. I really, really wish they weren't using DSS. Alas.
-
I see nothing about being forced into being a stormtrooper at the moment (though there are jokes about how people who want to be part of Kylo Ren's honor guard will get to keep their +sheets and xp, but will die in every engagement). Given that the First Order is recruiting naval officers (which the Resistance isn't doing) goes to show what sort is available there. Or, you can hang out with the lawless civilian sorts.

They really shouldn't need to wait too long if they are willing to get a couple of books. You should really suggest to them to go get the Aftermath, Lost Stars and Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary. It goes into detail about stuff, but...
TL;DR, Infighting hurts the Empire, and the Rebellion/nascent Republic are stealing their ships to inflate their own fleets. The Empire locks up pretty much their last big forces in the Battle of Jakku, and ends up scuttling a whole lot of craft including one of their few remaining Star Destroyers on the planet. After that, the Empire is annexed and they sign a treaty confining them to a part of space, while the New Republic forms. The Resistance forms separately from the Republic inside that Imperial-controlled sector of the galaxy, in an attempt to finish the job, and the Empire becomes the First Order after an internal shift. Notably, the Republic does not publically support or decry the Resistance, as that's not in their areas of space at all.
They won't have any pull on the movies as a thing if they don't actually do something in that era. And if they're being obstinate about not having enough stuff from the movie itself, they need to look at the actual canon extra stuff they can use to help their relaunch.

@Bobotron That was two months ago. Movie is out, all factions are open for play. But the MU is set 1.5 years before the movie, so we'll get to Ep 7 around the time that Ep 8 hits theaters.

Well, hell. I looked at the wrong timestamp. My bad.

Out of curiosity, is this one of the Star Wars games that is firmly on rails? I'm not sure which one it was, but I remember being discouraged from applying at one when the policy basically stated that PCs could do certain things but ultimately the story was not going to deviate in any way from canon. I found that stupid beyond reason.
-
It is not. Well, it is but isn't? Movie events will happen when we get around to it, but other than that, the headwiz is a huge Fett fanboi, refuses to acknowledge anything about Midichloreans (which are lolzy and have their place when you take a second to think about it, instead of nerd rage deny their existence), and will not accept our dark lord, Darth Darth Binks. Long story short, while Canon is a thing, it's not THE ONLY THING, and you can get away with stuff because PCs are special.
-
There is an entire galaxy of events to play through without needing to mess with the Skywalkers.
If you feel that being unable to destroy The Emperor, or stop either Death Star from being destroyed, is to restrictive on your RP plans, that tells me a lot about what your actual goals are, and I am not sympathetic.
-
@Misadventure
Why? -
Eh there's degrees. I don't really enjoy canon games that are set firmly on rails because I feel too much like a spectator forced to go along with a predictable plot where I know what is going to happen, and that's not really the same thing as wanting to wildly rewrite the game and change the theme and setting through PC action.
-
I don't mind games with a firm set canon, as long as that canon happens off screen. If you want to to rp a scene with a predetermined outcome weather to adhere to canon or just to help move a plot along count me out.
Note i have no problem getting together to plan out the story that happen for my char while x event happened I am just not going to rp it out in detail. -
Does this game still have that sand planet (not Tatooine) which was a cheap rip off of Dune with the head wiz's bff's that all have max level skills and force powers? I always loved that part of Star Wars Canon.
-
@BobGoblin Probably? Like I said, they didn't want to wipe stuff from the history they didn't have to. It's why I'm pushing for a FFG game, so we have another alternative to SAGA somewhere.

What if you want to play a Jedi though? You can't if the last ones left are Obi-wan, Yoda and of course Luke.
How about a Sith Lord? There's already a Master and an Apprentice.
Or, alright, let's say such things always happened even in the movie universe but these characters are underground to avoid being slaughtered by the Empire. Deviate enough - such as making the group known, or allying with the rebels - and you'd be affecting the timeline.
Playing with a very set theme on rails is quite hard on roleplay. You'll keep being in arguments with purists.

I think the most recent ad I saw for them essentially said ' app for something else, and when we get to a point for that, people who have contributed heavily to RP will be considered for those slots'.
Which is part of why I'm avoiding it. I'd love to play, and I really don't have a lot of interest in a Jedi or Sith myself, but it feels weird. It's the same reason I won't do the GoT MU*, I feel like it actually stagnates RP in general.

Agreed. I don't like competitions of this sort, they encourage resentment between players. Why did Bob get a slot and not me? Wasn't I good enough? How did they quantify the criteria? Fuck Bob.
It's a bad idea.
