We have a 'RL Things I Love' and a 'RL Anger' thread to balance it out. We have a "Random Bitching" thread to discuss what we hate about MUing (all 201 pages of it) so let's have a "MU Things I Love" thread to make things even. I'll start!

MU Thing I Love: When someone does their damndest to make your character unplayable/make it unenjoyable for you to play your character, BUT you still play your character and still LOVE playing your character, and others still play with you and love your character, too.

I love it when you RP with a handful of new folks, not knowing what to expect, and you riff each other like old timey New Orleans Jazz musicians

I love it when people like how I RP and express it! Which is actually quite often.

I love being able to surprise people with compliments. Or when people notice I notice/remember/incorporate little details from previous scenes with them (or who do the same for me!). It's really fun.

I consider it far from a requirement to read all the logs that go up for a game and follow everything that everyone else is doing, but there have been a few players I've played with over the years who absolutely delight in everyone else's stories as much as their own, who comment excitedly about new twists in your character's narrative, who actively ship your character's IC relationship, who comment on call-backs to scenes from a year ago. And those are some very special, delightful players. I still remember @skywaterblue, now retired from RP, commenting on a scene of mine back on the now-closed Second Pass years ago about how cool it was to see stuff from a year before coming back up and watching the continuity happen.

I have to concur with @tangent. I love it when I RP with someone for the first time and we just click. It sadly doesn't happen to me often but when it does it makes my day.

I love when you get a new player who out of nowhere turns out to be SUPER COOL and ENGAGED WITH THE GAME'S STORY RIGHT AWAY. Where were you hiding before, new person??

1. When you're in a scene and someone does something that catches you totally off-guard.
2. When 1. happens, and you don't even have to think about how your character would react, it just flows naturally.

When you know that you can throw a complete curve ball at another player's character and that they'll catch it and run with it. Damn do I love players like that and it makes for some of the most spontaneous, engaging and fun scenes.

I've been having a lot of this lately, truth be told, and it's started to give me some fuzzy feels. There are a handful of people that I've started playing with who just... run with things. And they throw things out that I can run with, too. There's just a flow, and it's been working out so very nicely that some of my faith is starting to be restored.

Related: When you can talk to people OOC about what you want, and what they want, and really work together to try and make amazing things happen IC even knowing that for that first little bit it'll be awkward as fuck as they try and get a feel for each other IC, even though you know what's happening OOC.

Love when you actually feel engaged in a story right off the bat after making a new character. Not having to warm up to the newness, and just going for it.

Also love the legit friends you can make, after wading through all the crazy.

When things go wrong (or at least really unexpected) and that's really why the scene and/or aftermath turns out to be memorable and awesome.

Certain players have a flare for that. I was in a scene recently where my character was supposed to have a simple thumb war with another character, and it ended up in a full-on brawl in which we both came away winners (I got something my char wanted, he created several scenes from the encounter which is what he wanted). Great times!

When you're RPing with a group of people who are all comfortable with throwing story twists and features without powergaming, and suddenly the scene you started turns into this unpredictable collaborative storytelling and you have no idea what's going to happen next.

That is awesome.

I have totally been there, too, but am so glad I stuck through, though!

MU Things I Love:

• When IC PCs end up in romantic relationships which stay strong for RL years (a whole decade in one instance in my own experience), especially when adventure time and story growth are steady aspects.
• Personally writing MUSH code which really helps long term to cut down wasted time for less stress during daily +jobs (character side).

There was a scene I was in recently that was great with something like that.

My character was working on earning her way into a Triad group, while another group was trying to keep her out. She set up a meeting with one of the groups to try and start negotiations, which are of course tense and full of veiled threats and lies.

Another character was already in the Mafia... and made their way into the scene with a couple buddies.

What happens when a bunch of triad are dealing with someone they don't trust.. .and a Mafia Lt suddenly walks in?

I love it when a plan comes together!

I love being surprised, like others here.
Being made to laugh out loud, I have a soft spot for comic relief types.
On occasion, I love falling into someone elses verbal trap... and having to just keep right on plodding through "I meant to do that, Honest." while everyone knows I'm full of shit.

I love it when a scene or random RP goes in unexpected ways where I get to actually explore what a character would do without having a default fallback for them. Where things go sideways to the point I am like thinking to myself: 'Oh shit, what are they going to do?'

This is especially profound when it's a character I've been playing for a long time and they are well established in my head to the point that writing them just flows.

It's those moments that I find especially intriguing and fun to play out.

I also like it when a scene gets my adrenaline pumping because I may end up in real trouble, might lose the character, or a characters friend might be in serious trouble.

I guess that's why I hate consent based systems, I love the element of random chance, where bad luck can really ruin someone's day.

Yes, so very much to your whole list, but especially this. That feeling of "Oh man... I might have actually gotten in over my head, this could be the end of the character or the storyline" is such a rare one these days, and it's so great for the adrenaline, and (provided you make it through) gives you plenty to play with afterwards. Of course, it can't just be "man, the dice are going to kill me this scene," it's got to be something where something beyond random dice luck might stop the character.
