Aren't there like 27 different Star Wars games already?

          How about something new.

@peppapoofle Have you checked out Dawn of Defiance? http://swdod.com/Main_Page

I believe it's the most populated/active Star Wars MUSH.

The problem I've always had with Star Wars games has always been, people spend most of their time flying around or being meta about who's knowledge of canon is greater instead of the actual meta-plot.

Yet, I love Star Wars. It would be interesting to see what this new one is and how it works out.

I'm looking for a Star Wars MU* that has actual RP with some activity (Or even a sci-fi MU*). The places I've checked are either dead or lack RP. It's a sad world.

Star Wars: Dawn of Defiance is still going. It has activity. Code-wise, it's excellent. It uses the SAGA Edition.

Information can be found at http://swdod.com.

Age of Alliances is also a thing if you're feeling up for randomness. Some folks do group apps and can start with their own capital ship bases! Loners have to fight an uphill battle for cybernetics. Fun times!

From the Punky Brewsters who brought you Marvel: 1963, we're making a Star Wars game.

                        Rhost
                        Fate
Post New Hope (like, a couple of weeks after)
Some simple changes to make Dark and Light side chars more appable (and middle types too)
Focusing mostly on one planet (although RP can be anywhere) in order to build Ic bonds

Grid is complete and Chargen's first run through is going strong. We have a ways to go before we go Beta, but we'll keep the interested informed.

I would tell you the address, but we're not there yet.

I'm having fun on Dawn of Defiance. It's using SAGA so it's a bit heavy on the mechanics from that end but it's active.

Another SAGA game is in the works as well, set a year or two before Rogue One/A New Hope. No, I'm not Staffing on it, just eagerly awaiting it being ready and open. I'm sure that there will be more posted about it as it gets closer to ready.

SAGA is not my cup of tea, like most d20 based games it hinges heavily on optimization in order to be 'effective'.

DoD says that you don't have to do that, but then I've caught conversations where people were discussing exactly that, that they have done with their characters so your mileage may vary.

@Lithium Hey, you just summarized the exact one complaint I have so far of DoD. People are super into +sheet optimization, at least one faction leader was asking to look at +sheets before he'd assign tasks to newcomers, etc. It's rare that I've seen mechanical efficiency take such focus in a game from the beginning.

I don't know if it means anything though. And I mean that literally - I haven't been on the game enough to know what the effects of this are on RP.

I could see asking for a skill total as part of assigning stuff.

OR have staff have him make a Administration roll to be able to correctly choose people based on the skill totals and Feats.

Really, he should be optimized for Administration like that.

I need someone who is optimized for Administration to evaluate the Faction Head.

I have a waggish sense of humor.

I find it annoying as hell, really.

But, there's the flip-side to it: it is really difficult in SAGA to be consistently good at things without optimization. That's the nature of d20 games. And the ramification for failure can sometimes be harsh: roll a 1, and you are going to have big problems.

This is different than nWoD games, where a reasonable pool usually results in the necessary 1 success. You've generally got one shot in d20, so you have to make it count.

So far on DoD, though, the player base and staff seem to be okay with some new ideas. They just like to offer their opinion because they know the system pretty damn well. Luckily, they have policies that make the entry to play low, and SAGA operates in such a way that if you know what you can do, you generally don't have to spend too much time about thinking how others are going to contest you.

@Ganymede It rubbed me the wrong way the other day when someone, after he asked and looked at one of our group's +sheets, gasped "What?! You took <talent>?!" over on a public channel.

I've never seen that happen on a WoD MU*. People pick stupid powers and/or don't know how to use them all the time and zero shits are given.

Maybe it's just a different culture - or (equally as possible, to be fair) I might be judging from a very small sample of incidents here.

There are some truly "meh" talents in SAGA. Almost all WoD benefits have some moderate usage and applications (except, say, the Autumn Court's C:tL initial Court boon), but the same can't be said about all SAGA Talents. Still, yeah, it's gauche as shit to blurt out the fact that you think someone's super-stupid.

I'd chalk it up to "moron." Or "immature" and "inconsiderate." We'll see if it soon becomes "douchebaggery." There's another SAGA game opening, so options may become available in the future.

A couple of the Talents actually don't do -anything- without house rules. Expert Pilot: Elusive Dogfighter, for instance, adds a penalty to attacks that... can't happen, because the person with the Talent won the Pilot check in the dogfight already. It's not the only one. Some Talents/Feats are just bad.

This doesn't excuse shaming someone for it on public channels. If you -have- to comment on it, drop them a page asking if they want +sheet advice, then handle it in pages -- if they want the input at all, otherwise, let it go. I mean... common courtesy.

@Seraphim73 See, with me it's not so much that I don't like playing in a system with real depth to it even if I bellyache until I learn the ins and outs. It adds to the overall fun, and I like to twink - it gives me an extra incentive to try and get in-game goodies to improve my character.

What I don't like is turning that into a game-wide imperative, to make it necessary to twink else - or so the implication goes - your PC can't go as far. That's a big no-no in my book since some of the best players I've been around barely ever cared about systems and their +sheets were simplistic as hell (in fact a few didn't even spend the XP they did have); although quality roleplaying and twinking are not mutually exclusive by any means, I don't want to play in a game where only powergamers can succeed.

All that is theoretical, mind you. I'm not saying this is the case on DoD, a MU* I'm enjoying.
