Now for those in the studio audience, Coin and I have yelled at each other in voice chat, but one of those usual cases where each person thinks the other person isn't listening so things get louder. Or he was drunk. Or his mom. Always his mom.

I have definitely yelled at you drunk, but I've also yelled at you because you are fucking infuriating when you code with blinders on and refuse to acknowledge immediate needs over things that can be postponed.

This burned someone recently who used a log to double down on how much of a jerk I ostensibly was, to a mutual friend who had taken their version of things as true, but had expressed missing me.

I received an unqualified apology from said friend, who was aghast at the thought that they might approve of what had been said, especially because they had been mentioned in the log as approving of it.

My accuser, on the other hand, burned their last chance at shit-talking with that log.

I've had people shit talk me and I'm always a little leery of the people telling me about it too. Like I have been told the equiv of X doesn't like you, they just say they do. Or whatnot. Usually that's when I'm out. Too much RL dramaz lately to add online ones.

I have probably said some shitty things about people too, but to be fair, I tend to tell the person too.

@Catsmeow The ones that get to me the most are the ones who will smack-talk the shit out of absolutely everyone who crosses their path, but insist, "Oh, but I would never do that to you!!!" like you're supposed to believe that shit for a hot minute and trust them completely.

That statement always strikes me as being especially precious every time I hear it, and if you read 'precious' in that sort of condescending 'bless your heart' 'all the headpats and fake smiles' tone, it's still nowhere near as 'I just sucked on a lemon filled with battery acid that murdered my grandmother and am trying to smile through it all' as it really deserves to be.

Hahaha.. I actually think part of my social anxiety comes from this IRL. I am an awesome friend. Seriously, everyone says (even non-shit talkers). However, I have witnessed my friends say things like:

"Ugh, that Becky. I don't want to hang out with her, but I feel obligated."
"Damn sometimes Tom just annoys the shit out of me."
"I'm pretty sure that Bobby can do better than Ken. I mean Ken is also hooking up with Barbie and Bobby has said..."

So then I'm like.. well fuck. If you talk about others, you obviously say things about me. Then it makes me all nervous to talk, etc.

I sometimes have to shake it off (like Taytay said) and realize sometimes I am going to be screwed over. Sometimes, I'm going to get fucked over. However, other times people are genuinely invested. That's what matters.

@Catsmeow Pretty much that. Like... I have had the chance to get to know some folks in the hobby (some on the forums, some who never have been) well enough to know where plenty of bodies are buried re: RL stuff. I'd still never repeat that stuff, even if I dislike the person intensely.

Something game-ethics related? Yeah, if somebody wants that to not get out, they really need to just not tell me, because I can't just... not say something, even if it's telling them, "That is so not OK," and if it isn't knocked off? Yeah, I will say something. So if somebody wants to be an unethical ass on a game, seriously: don't tell me.

RL stuff, though? That's somebody's life, not public entertainment fodder. I realize a lot of people don't bother making that distinction, so there's probably all manner of 'fun' stuff I've shared privately with people that has made the rounds, which is partly why I'm a cagey cow these days.

I just... kinda can't do that. So I figure there have to be other people who are the same, just like the people who think any given personal RL tidbit they find out is a new toy to play with. At least there's consolation in knowing it goes both ways?
