I've been wondering whether there are new Historical MU*s hanging around there or maybe someone willing to put a project forward should he find any support from the community. Recently I've found and joined Grimwood MUSH, which is set in the Wild West, it's a very small place, but both the staff and players I've encountered have proportioned great RP and I look forward to spend more time with them.
Is there any other historical MU*s active or starting out there? Also, is Chicago MUSH down? Their website seems full of spam nowadays.
I'm enjoying Grimwood a lot. The game just had a bout of downtime but is back up now. Small, cozy, everyone's friendly and it's really laid back.

Chicago's website got spammy near its end (the end of high traffic going there), someone joined and started spamming and no one ever removed their membership. It was still up last I checked, just still the same 2-3 hold outs playing along.

But there's always trouble on the frontier, armies are about to clash, there are bandits in the hills, it's almost noon and someone called you yeller.

About
Grimwood is a MUSH (Multi-user shared hallucination) set in early 1860's Colorado. The game is based in and around the young town of Grimwood (founded in 1860) with it's multitude of businesses, houses and nearby farms and ranches.
Don't get lost, there's a Map!
We use the PennMUSH codebase, currently version 1.8.6p1. Installed is Faraday's FS3 system.

You can get to the game by either raw telnet (not recommended) or one of the many and varied MU* clients available. We suggest MUSHclient for Windows, but most installed or java clients should work just fine.

I checked out Grimwood. would be nice to see an increase in activity there.
And as a tangent but historical related. It seems all westerns end up being ~1860 near or post civil war. I would like to see other western genres at some point, such at 1840s around the Spanish American War, set in an area that is contested. Or anything pre 1840s along those lines. Like St. Lious late 1700s, up to the exchange of land from Spanish to American control.
I think a lot of the reason for that is the most westerns in other mediums are set in that era as well. So western fans tend to think of that as the default setting.
And I think you mean Mexican American war not Spanish American.
Spanish American started in 1898 by which time the west was fairly tamed and normalized. We got the Philippines and change.
Mexican American is the early 1850s. We got one third of Mexico and it became the American Southwest.
Yes, Mexican American War, 1847. My slip up was thinking of the Spanish occupation of St Lious at the time prior (up to 1802'ish?). It was '46-'48, the war, 1850s was more battles with native Americans.

Yeah the Louisiana purchase area was French, then Spanish for a shot while then Napoleon strong armed it back to France shortly before selling it to us.
We also butted heads a lot with Spain over Florida before we got it and Cuba, so while Spanish American conflict is pretty prevalent in the era you are seeking the actual war didn't happen til later.

Yes. As someone who's run a game set in the 1860's and constantly having people RPing like it was the 1880's, I shudder to imagine what a game set in the 1840's would have to deal with. The west was SO different then.

I've looked at the game. At least they're up-front about its not being set in any one real place so that people can do things like name their own local "injuns." Tribes that are hundreds of miles away from Colorado in the 1860s are raiding the area around the town as a result, but it doesn't really matter because it's all the generic Wild West. I think--the game hasn't posted any theme files. So, not really historical.
So at this point I'm really hungry for a historical nWoD style game. I'd love a Victorian era Changeling or Mage game, and after having heard about someone who may have set up a Dark Ages Werewolf Vikings game, I'd love deets on that too. I'm pretty much open to almost any kind of historical setting with either Changeling, Mage, or Werewolf involved.
Is there anything like the above, either actively running or in the works?

Was kind of working on a fantasy CoD setting, but then Mage came out and it obliterated my ideas for magic.
I have the theme to a Roaring 20's style vamp game sketched out, but I couldn't get the 0-to-MU instructions to work, and since there are other vamp games in the works, I tabled it.
I can't say I wouldn't enjoy seeing a Dark Ages Vampire game. Perhaps something set a little later, just prior to all the War or Princes or during the War of Princes, just before the formation of the Inquisition. No historical accuracy necessary.
Or a Victorian Changeling the Dreaming, set in Victorian London and drawing heavily from (again) historical sources without any historical accuracy. Draw from Black Butler, and I'd be happy.

I was thinking like... take A Knight's Tale, Reign, Kingdom of Heaven, Ever After, Seventh Son... work up something Dark Ages-feely but eschewing any real historical accuracy beyond the most basics necessary for the setting.
Hollywood-accurate Dark ages vampire/Mage/Werewolf game wherein the in-splat societies are kind of non-existent (at least within the immediately relevant setting) and the three splats have to integrate and work together to 1) keep the mortals in the dark, 2) keep the mortals in line, 3) protect the mortals from whatever--including perhaps more organized factions of their own kind outside the setting.
Vampire nightlords in large castles that hold court at night and haunt their peasants's dreams during the day.
Werewolf knights in full armor walking the land, Witchering their way through Ridden and Hosts.
Mage viziers and advisors whose prophecies and strange, versatile magics make them invaluable to others.
Really I would just love a Dark Ages game that gets rid of the divide between splats and the choice-factions (i.e. Orders, Covenants, and Tribes) and keeps natural-factions (i.e. Paths, Clans, and Auspices). Maybe in one kingdom a vampire rules with a mage advisor and a pack of werewolf enforcers. Maybe in another a death-sorceress rules and she and her werewolf concubines rule with the help of a colony of murderous night-dwelling bloodsuckers. Maybe in a third kingdom a werewolf pack rules as an oligarchical construct reminiscent to the incestuous families of old, keeping the vampires on a leash and the mages busy uncovering the strange mysteries, ruling trhough savagery and raids.
Maybe all three.
Whatever, just spitballing.
If we're putting in votes for what we want in a historical game, here are mine:
Daneland/law, after the sacking of York by Ivar the Boneless (yes spoiler alert for those not familiar with where Vikings is going) and Halfdan Ragnarson. Something of them (various groups of hearths) settling in to establish themselves here, dealing with Aella of Northumbria and the kings of Mercia and Wessex as they try to settle. For a little more turmoil, the clans of Ireland at this time and the various Viking/Viking gaelic groups struggling over there would be interesting too, but pre-Danelaw to keep the conflict high with neighbors (not that it lessons much after, but the first decade or so deals with expansionism and fighting more with the neighbors and is less convoluted by laws and treaties).
Novgorod, either the settling of the various Slavic clans in 11th century, or something with the Swedes and other crusaders around the 13th century.
Obuda/buda/pest: something Roman Era, where Celts have already settled here and the Romans are just arriving. Could condense and go for hyper history/timeline, include the Hungarians at this point cause they have such a rich history with Atilla and his dealings with the Romans of the Eastern Empire (and would make for more factions of interest).
