Yes, he was completely shameless in approaching female characters through pages to get them to play with him, and it was pretty damn obvious he was working hard to create a harem there.
And he never once asked me to join his harem.
I, sir, am offended.

@Thenomain It's true, though!
I'm wary of the black-and-whites
My solution to people abusing summaries is not to throw so much mud ("it depends") on the ground that there's no momentum.
Also, look around you. How many of us do you think are so inelegant that we wouldn't just posit a correction. Okay, around here that might look like dog-piling, for instance on someone who incorrectly assumes that "staffer A is staffing on two games" means that a game is losing its staffers.
To bring it back to the advertisement and topic.

You can join my harem.
Ahem.
I have no reason to believe Incrociare is gone. Yes, it's been a bit of time since he last logged in, but staff hasn't received any information that he will or will not be returning. Could have quit, could be busy with RL, I have no idea, and I mention this only because I hate when weirdo rumors start on MSB.

I heard that @skew is leaving Fallen World because nobody will join his harem.

...in some ways, this is not a bad thing? <hopeful smile goes here>
It's either a pile of options, or a kitchen sink. And kitchen sink is it's own unique animal with its own unique catalogue of diseases that a lot of folk would prefer to avoid.
I think its a good thing, so long as people are active multiple places and not herding away from one to another. The more games the better. I just saw activity drop a lot in both players and staff and it was right around the same time that Reno was being advertised. Maybe it was just coincidence, but it seemed like that was the case to me, especially when it was mentioned on chan and every reason under the sun was given except the opening of a new game. It was conspicuously not mentioned. Even El Nino was given some credit for the activity drop.
But if people are playing or staffing multiple games, then that's great news, cause I really like FW and what it is bringing and it would suck to see it fade out.

I'm curious, when Incro left... did he give an actual reason?
Lack of staff response to jobs. He mentioned it several times in OOC room. I got the impression that he was the kind to put in more than the average amount of jobs though, so I don't know if that had anything to do with it.

Incro-isms aside, that's a legitimate concern for FW. Other than @skew it was sometimes difficult to get staff to look at things, at least in my experience.
-
@Arkandel I think that's all about expectations. When the game starts, jobs get done lickety split, but as time goes on it takes longer and longer. From what it looked like to me there were a lot of people making characters on that game and jumping into activity then fading out. I can only imagine all the jobs put in by that many people and what the staff side of the jobs list must look like when people don't reply back to staff. You probably have a lot of jobs being worked on for people that won't even log in for a week or so.
I'm generally pretty patient on jobs because I know staff side can be complicated, especially when you're trying to communicate with everyone and make a good decision. I generally won't even bother with poking at things until they've been idle at least a month.
But if you hold the expectation that you should be getting responses within a week, that will obviously color your opinion of things when it doesn't happen. I'm just not sure how realistic that expectation would be, especially when you don't know the factors involved. But to each, their own. If jobs are taking longer than someone is willing to wait, I can understand why they'd up and leave - valid or not.
-
It's also worth mention that pretty much every new game that opens, a huge portion of the hobby makes a character.
Within about 2 months, about 1/3 will drop off, because they never got into it. This is pretty typical of what I've seen happen on a pile of games at this point, and I see it more as a case of 'rush to the new shiny to see what it's all about!' than anything re: the actual quality of the game itself, but as a factor of 'new thing, let's go see!' instead.

That said, I know I personally have been falling short on my job and ST duties. It has nothing to do with other games, and everything to do with big changes to my real life situation. Should settle down soon, and I'll be back at it!
I read that as TS duties. YEAH you have!

I think this why people are concerned about Reno siphoning staff attention. Staff stops responding to jobs, plots die, and people leave the game.
-
@Calibraxa I noticed this was a thing well before I had even heard of a Reno revival. The game being on autopilot was a common enough sentiment for a few weeks now, unfortunately.
I like Elphaba and I've no beef with anyone there, for the record. But from where I'm sitting at least FW's actual issues aren't really related to any external events.

Ark has it right. There's no "siphoning off attention". Admittedly, there has been a lull in attention the last few weeks... Elphaba and I both have some pretty big real life going on. That said, slow jobs are not our goal. I have read these comments and definitely taken them to heart, and we will be working to get things moving faster, in one way or another! Thanks everyone.

@Arkandel Thanks for the feedback, Ark! It is much appreciated! I will try to improve!

@SunnyJ Good, else I want my money back.

@Arkandel said in Welcome to Fallen World MUX!:
It's Fallen World. It's a Mage game, not a dating one. At some point, possibly due to the overall inactivity and lack of things-to-do it wasn't about unlocking mysteries or fighting the Seers, it was about who was banging whom. And Incro had a hand in that. Twice I was paged asking to come along to scenes to cockblock him - that shouldn't have been necessary.
I tend to be of the opinion that the dating game is never really detrimental to a game. Whenever they seem to take over the game, its not that they're actually taking over anything at all. Its just that they're filling a big gaping hole where there should be SOMETHING but for whatever reason, the game is failing to provide it. Its the comfortable haven when everything else is a wasteland.
Those players who focus solely on it from the start aren't subtracting anything, they're still adding to the game in a myriad of small ways.

Oh I agree. I don't blame those players (although with the Incro-variety I do since that's what they're in it for to begin with). When the game offers little else to do people will resort to whatever RP they can find, which just so happens to be forming relationships.
As to what is being added to the game though... well, it depends. I feel the opportunity cost can sometimes squander other possibilities which offsets the benefit of at least sticking around and actively roleplaying.
For instance during the first few weeks the MU* was running, even while player excitement was high and staff involvement wasn't bottoming out, I was pasted pages where a player was asked for a scene by someone she had only met once "but let's not do Mage stuff, how about a date?". She didn't agree, so the other character vanished from her life, just like that. This sort of thing can leave you with a certain impression of the game overall, even if it's unintended by ts runners and even if it is undeserved.
I don't wanna sound like I'm against relationship RP though - that'd be hypocritical as I do it myself.
-
I'm fairly interested in this game. I'm just not very up to date with White Wolf stuff, so I need to sit down and read through Mage.
-
@NotSanni They changed spell casting from what it was in 1E, and I've written up some guides to try and help new players comprehend the system. If there's any chance that's what's giving you pause, you can find them here: http://fallenworldmux.com/wiki/User:Skew/Noob_Guide

@skew Yeh, I used to be pretty familiar with 1E. I'll check out the guides! I'd just like to actually read through the book, especially regarding Lore. Thanks for the heads up!
