If you think Diplomacy is a game that ends friendships and families, never, ever look at Republic of Rome.
I watched a deep friendship, the kind that involved having each other's backs in a foxhole, brutally murdered at the hands of that game.

When I was a kid, I wanted a Transformer, my parents got be a Gobot for Christmas. It was one of the ones that were part of a bigger robot. I got the left arm and it was orange.
Couldn't name it if I tried.
I know it is a toy unto itself, but it really sounds like this story was: 'When I was a kid, my parents got me a knock off of the left arm of a toy I really wanted for Christmas...' And I can't stop loling.

@Warma-Sheen Pretty much, yep!

They'd lose anyway. And also feel inadequate when I revealed I was wearing a Trotsky shirt.
You're assuming they'd recognize him and know who he was/what he did. (I'm also assuming you're not being hyperbolic.)
Well, facetious anyway. I don't have time to make my own, self-printed Trotsky shirt, and I would never buy one (I'm pretty sure if I did Trotsky would climb out of his grave and shove a pick-axe into my skull. Although, thinking about it, I think he'd probably stop, ask me who made it and whether they are a small, independent producer of t-shirts who is only charging for the work, or a major bougeois capitalist manufacturer... oh, Leon, you so cray). I did once have a hand-me-down printed shirt with a Trotsky quote printed on it, but it got torn up accidentally. sad. It was red. And awesome.
(And no, they likely wouldn't recognize him.)

I think a diplomacy mush would be a hoot. Have each turn take a week, with RP focused around the negotiations.
My friend devised a program that allowed you to update the map quickly and place markers for where the units are, and which nation the units belonged to. We played via e-mail, with orders in on or before midnight on Saturday.
It worked exceptionally well, but I won. Of course.

@WTFE
I absolutely love Republic of Rome. Sadly i never got to play it often since it was harder to find players for, or perhaps most of the other folks in the group preferred Diplomacy.
For the longest time Republic of Rome was my favorite board game, it still is in my top 3. -

I played extensively on DIplomacy judge email servers. I almost always lost.
I had great success in FTF play and at tournaments at Origins.

I made this for you, @Coin. I couldn't decide if HOPE should be replaced with REVOLT or PROLE or, considering political subtext of the filter, WE CAN. I also was too lazy to add text, so knowing which word to use really is a moot point.
-
@Karmageddon ROFL, neat.
... in fact... you know... my mother's birthday is next week and she's Trotskyst...
Aw, Hell, you just made next week suuuuuuuper easy for me.

@Coin, the original file size is 2850x3592 but I reduced it before Obama-izing it. If you want a larger version, just let me know.
-
@Karmageddon I suspect the larger the better for t-shirt design.
-
@Coin, I'm not sure. The horizontal line work gets lost when I Fit To Screen the larger version, so it's possible a t-shirt would have a similar problem. Perhaps someone on MSB has a better idea.
The dispersal of red this time around is more, for some reason. Trotsky's left eye also actually looks like an eye. It was done in GIMP because I don't have Photoshop, but there is an option to export the layered file as a .psd. I have no idea if it'll work, though.
Anyway, here is the higher res version.

The makings for a your momma so fat joke are all in there but it's her birthday, I just can't do it.

You're weak. Just like your mom.

This is probably true, but I also won a majority of my games FTF.

-
@SG Oddly, I feel that would be an ideal addition to the list, thematic or not. Just because.

@surreality @SG Well, now I have a Promethean concept...

I'm not sure where my Elemental Changeling Robot-Ninja-Stripper would fit in, but she'd probably fit here, I guess.

... Tori, aka Killbot?
(Note: On Haunted Memories, an Elemental Changeling Robot Ninja Stripper. Not kidding.)
