@GangOfDolls As someone with only one (maybe two?) of those... holy shit i feel for your brother.
As someone with some self awareness (often alas in hindsight), I feel for you and your parents and everyone involved as well.
I have no practical experience for you, just some sliver of understanding and support. It is a hard decision to make. -
WELP nothing like getting a message less than an hour before Shabbat on the weekend of Yom Kippur from the company that you teach through that they have cancelled all of your classes because you apparently owe THEM money???
-
@tek WTF?
-
@Macha Apparently the email server of my old university was eating some VERY IMPORTANT EMAILS. I paid them what I owed them for late refunds and switched to gmail.
-
@tek Oh FFS
-
@Macha It was just super stressful because I had zero idea what was going on AND it was $857 total.
-
@tek That's just... WTF kind of bullshit is that.
-
@Macha Must have been late refunds, probably ones I could have contested if I had RECEIVED THE FUCKING NOTICES, but at this point, I prefer to just eat the amount and keep my spot on the platform.

My shoulders have hurt p much my entire life. Forever. But this weekend I couldn't move my arms up, and I hurt from my shoulder all the way down to my fingertips. Ended up in the ER. Got given a narcotic, told my joint and bones are fine, so go see an orthopedist!
Have to spend two hours at my doctor's office to get a referral to the orthopedist because they don't know how to do it. Finally get the referral, go to the orthopedist...
I have bone spurs underneath my shoulder blades (not a surprise since I have felt for years like there was something sticking into my shoulder blade from underneath). I have tendonitist in my shoulder. Have to get steroids for it. Also, surprise! While the bones in my neck are in alignment they are -straight as a board-.
And I might have nerve damage.
Hooray.
Guess I'll find out more in three weeks.
-
@Cobaltasaurus I'm sorry to hear it. The steroids will help, but fight like hell to not stay on them too long.

Oof. I am so sorry.
I've struggled with shoulder issues for years- even after surgery to remove bone spurs so good god I know how rough those are. I will say, the pain of recovering from surgery was less than the pain I was in before, so if that is a solution there is a light at the end of the tunnel.(Unfortunately I also think shoulder problems are for life, but that might also just be a 'getting older' thing.)

Good: Got a promotion and my own thing to play with that is allll about the technology and online.
Bad: One death, one terminal diagnosis, one cancer diagnosis and one test for cancer in my family and close friends this week. -
Pain is something I am used to. But Body, could you not fuck with my hands? I need those to work, so I can buy the shit that's supposed to keep me functional.
-
So yeah, got steroid shot in my shoulder and it helped right? Took the first dose of methylprednisone I was supposed to take... And that night ended up in the ER for an allergic reaction. To not be taken seriously by the ER doctor because he couldn't see a rash. Well doc, I might not actively have hives but my skin is LITERALLY BURNING and itching. I have been this way since Wednesday....?? night. It's been several days and right now it feels like I have burns all over my body. Except everything else is cold as hell.
My tongue is fuzzy, my head hurts, my joints hurt, and I have a mild cough.
So, y'know. It's a grand time right now.
-
Finally got in at a free clinic. Telecom that's pure phone is awkward but hey. They 'saw' me. They're sending me to get x-rays of my knee.
I'm really nervous about what's gonna be found out. I can't even walk from one room to another without severe pain.
-
@Auspice Good luck.
-
My edema in my legs is getting ridiculously bad, and I don't know WHY
-
@Macha So I had very bad swelling in my feet and ankles a few months ago--came on during a heatwave when we moved so I thought it was just that I was on my feet too much and not drinking enough. Lasted for two weeks though so I went to the doctor who ran a slew of tests that came back fine and was like 'Uhhhh here are some water pills this is unexplained but probably heat related edema.'
Through trial and error it turned out my new comfy slippers that I finally had a reason to wear cause new house? I'm apparently allergic to. Stopped wearing them, haven't had an issue since!
Might not be your reason, but if you've got wool slippers...
-
@Quinn No wool. Makes me itch. I'm trying to think of what maybe I've changed recently. hmm. I'm worried, but not freaking out yet.

For
weeksmonths, Rock has been exhibiting symptoms of being unwell. Increased thirst, increased urination (which then led to incontinence), weakness in his hindquarters, weight gain, and a droop to his lips on one side of his face. Initially I had to be particular about taking him to the vet because money, and was initially told that the best way to figure out what was wrong with him would be to pay $500 for an ultrasound. Insurance would recoup most of the cost, but my vet, who is actually specialized in the specifics od dealing with Rock's breed, expects payment at time of service. And of course, there's all of the other regular things he needs, like his shots and his annual dental under anesthetic, which will likely at cheapest cost around $700 and is not covered by my pet insurance.I love my dog, and having recently spent the last couple of years rebuilding my credit, I decided to take out a personal loan. It's allowed me to restructure my finances, pay all of Rock's vet bills, and gives me a cushion for any emergencies that may occur over the next few months. I'm so glad I did it.
We were able to get the ultrasound. Rock has Cushing's Disease. His body actually produces too much testosterone, and now he's on the meds he needs to live an otherwise full life. It's been hard not to cry from sheer relief.
