Oracle. PFFFFHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Oh man. My job uses Oracle for their system. I work for a multi-billion dollar company, including all lines of busienss. They are using a version of Oracle that requires IE8 and IE9 to run, and we have to keep some outdated version of Java to make it run.

And even then, there are just random problems.errors that people have, even using 'best practices' for the programs.

      It's hilarous.

Firewalls cannot be 'bypassed' if your router (any modern) uses stateful packet inspection. Nothing can just 'come in' unless you invite it in. The reports that state that your firewall can be actively bypassed are fear mongering, or written by someone who has no idea how they work.

          Correction:

You may cg/submit after Tuesday, June 17th, 2015, 10 PM EST. If you submit before, the job will be closed with a reminder!

Tuesday is correct. The 17th is not. Makes that Tuesday the 16th.

That's me. Half not-remembering information, and half not-remembering information. There have been non-trivial proofs of concepts of bypassing (ignoring? tricking? use the term of your choice) router firewalls, so I leave the rest up to people who want to do research into the proper terminology.

I was wondering, what is the actual technical limitation in handling Becomings? That is, what needs to be coded before it's possible?

It can be done right now*, it just needs things done by hand. The only one that's difficult on this front is Demon, which is kind of ironic because this is a complete sheet-wipe making it the easiest on the other staffers. Demon requires things done that any Wizard can do, but only I really know how.

(* I may have setting 'template' locked down even to staff. I'll have to check.)

That's dangerously not the case. Routers themselves are subject to software vulnerabilities, user-configuration issues, and (large-scale) ISP misconfiguration. There have been infections of cable modems. There's malware brought in by guests you let use your WiFi or wired LAN.

There's HTTP: The universal firewall bypass protocol. Your router trusts the connections you initiate, even if you shouldn't. Go to the level of DPI, that's defeated by SSL.

Regarding AV software, looking up Tavis Ormandy's Sophail paper. TL;DR: he decided to pick on Sophos because it was installed on computers he was given to use. He found that Sophos itself was 1) Using CRC32 for file sig matching, which is just bonkers bad, and 2) vulnerable to memory-corruption vulnerabilities that would allow a file to infect Sophos itself (running as System) just by being scanned.

Sigh. I just checked my antivirus and yep. McAfee was saying NO YOU CAN'T DO THAT!

So I've been pounding on the knowledge base. They suggest that you add telnet/simplemu to the exceptions under the mail spam prevention.. only that didn't work. So if anyone has suggestions, I'm open to answers!

Right, so here's the fix. Go to the virus scan console. Select access protection. Select anti-virus standard protection. Select prevent irc communication. Add Simplemu.exe (or whatever program) to the exceptions list. Apply. Voila! Connecting.

Less than 23 hours till the werewolf and vampire slots open.

Remember, it's not a reservation. You need to cg/submit so have everything ready to go before then.

Because, of course, the software that does the SPI is never flawed and never has exploits available.
