I wrote out this lengthy reason and informative post about my RL feels atm. Then I realized it didn't really matter (that's not in a bad way). The situation didn't really matter because it boils down to this:
When my feels are not your feels about something -- that does not invalidate my feels as real.
That's my annoyance. We all have very different life stories and they compose us of who we are and what we are. It's not good. It's not bad. It's just events (nothing to do with the previous ones btw). So please, please, do not jump on people if they do not react how you do. They are no more broken than you are fixed. Now I'm going to go to bed, but everyone feels what they feel and that's okay.

Like most of us, at some point or another, an ancient password of mine leaked in a hack from somewhere. The only account that used it was changed, obviously, years ago when it happened.
Some dumbass, likely with that list of emails and passwords, is sending out the weirdest blackmail demand ever. Unfortunately, it's one that could hit a lot of folks, it's just weirdly laughable here.
No, I'm not going to buy you 2000 bitcoin, because I made a whopping $800 last year, dumbest criminal in history, and you'd know the impossibility of that if you really 'had access to all of my computer information from the past year' as you claim. Truly. If you had even the tiniest smidge of brainpower, you'd pick a target with money.
You can't even name the 'weird porn site', and considering that my real name is on my facebook, which you also claim to have? Yeah, somehow I think you would have used that, too. Even the crazy stalker/harasser knows to randomly page me my real name from a guest account to be a proper terrorist!
It's a classic 'WE GOT VIDEO OF YOU MASTURBATING TO WEIRD PORN!' scam, which is especially funny since, uh... I haven't even had a sex drive for four or five years now. Something they'd also see the endless whining about if they had access to my computer! (It would also be physically impossible to masturbate at my desk even if I was so inclined, because of the way this desk is jury-rigged together. Like, how the hell would a fat woman with little t-rex arms and giant boobs even pull that off in a space as tight as a cockpit? Dear moronic internet criminals: I understand that small minds typically project their own personal behavior patterns on others in an attempt to normalize them to themselves due to fear or shame that the behavior is unacceptable. It's super common. Sometimes it's related to behavior that is totally normal and actually fine, like you whacking it to, presumably, some sort of funky hentai in your mom's basement. Embrace your fetish -- or that character body pillow with the hole cut in it -- without shame, you do you! (Literally!) If it helps at all, it's not personal/something directed specifically at you. We get about 5 of that sort of email every week at work (bitcoin, porn, we saw you! going to tell everyone!), to different folks. Freaks everybody out, but they don't actually have anything and it's randomly generated based on info they can troll from the web.
That feeling when you wonder if you aren't as left-wing as you thought because you're getting shit from people for suggesting that people should be allowed to be Catholics or other Christian faiths when everyone says 'NO THEY ARE HATE GROUPS'.

Those are often the same people who were 'Wicca' as teenagers because 'Christians are mean to me!' but spent all their time sitting around being incredibly hateful towards Christians.
Christians can be hateful. It doesn't mean they all are.
(Westboro, for example, is a hate group and you can find the good Christians by the ones who speak out / work against it.)
Yeah I had the 'we have a video of you masturbating' email scam a while back. They made it more convincing by claiming to have had access to all my information for a while now, with which they've been recording me in secret, and as proof did accurately offer up one of my passwords, likely purchased from a data breach.
A simple google search indicated this was a hoax, but as a result I now religiously monitor and update my passwords, so in all honestly they did me a favour by scaring me like that.
Also, I'm incredibly offended by the idea that they thought I should pay them for a video of me masturbating.
@Admiral That would depend on what the group is. If the Southern Poverty Law Center lists them as a hate group, they probably are. It's also possible they have a very personal reason to feel that way which colors their opinion.

@Kestrel oh my god we had an employee absolutely shitting himself over that email and going to the head of IT security (since it was a work machine), who then came to me to say this was a really sensitive situation and what should we do about it.
I laughed and laughed and then was like "didn't you at least google this? It's a scam. They get username and passwords from hacked sites and stick them into a form letter that's riddled with typos."
I mean it's kind of clever but also let me google that for you.

I agree, although I also think that’s a difference between an institution and individuals. I.e. I don’t think catholics are bad people for following a religion, but I do think The Catholic Church as an institution is corrupt.
Probably not the thread for this but this is how I feel about most institutions, and definitely most religions, so I don’t draw sharp distinctions here. I think people get to believe what they want to believe but it’s just good mental hygiene to always question authority.

...then proceeding to read the comments from dozens of women in their 70s piping up about how they were hit by it. (It was a dazzlingly high percentage of the commenters.) I was at turns annoyed that they claimed this was targeted at men when it was obvious it was scattershot, and amused that it was so badly targeted if in fact it somehow was. I mean, dang, at least edit that later.

The Catholic Church has a lot wrong with it not the least of which are its homophobic dogma and the hate speech of some of its leaders. But it also does some good that a true hate group would not.

I think it's really odd that a religion based on a loving dude who hung out almost exclusively with dudes preaching love and tolerance would end up being so homophobic.
This is especially odd given that all of the prohibitions against homosexuality seem to crop up in the religion whose leaders the loving dude spoke out against.
That said, I am happy with my parish and my church. Around here, there's a bit of a controversy regarding a local Catholic school discharging a beloved, long-tenured teacher based on his sexual preferences. It's good to see so many Catholics demanding the teacher be returned to his position.
Atheist internet leftists seem to think they're the majority of the movement, which is kind of adorable in that exasperating, "you've never actually done anything outside of Twitter, have you" sort of way.
Leftism in the Global South is inextricable from Christianity, and there are plenty of us in the States who are religious and leftist.
