Good or New Movies Review

Black Panther was fantastic. Awful villain that was still sympathetic, great visuals, great fights, great music, great female characters having great lines and moments, and Angela Basset is a beautiful goddess like wtf isn't she almost 60 or something how

I am poised and waiting to fling my monies at this. ALL THE MONIES. Also Gotham by Gaslight.
-
@miss-demeanor Gotham by Gaslight was fun. I really liked how they portrayed Catwoman in it, although not how much they ended up nerfing her at the end.
-
@arkandel I still need to watch the Gotham by Gaslight, it looked interesting.
-
@Lithium Yes the aforementioned person was fierce as fuck.
-
I'm glad to hear Gotham by Gaslight is enjoyable. It looked fun! And then a lot of (fan, not just RT / reviewer) reviews were panning it, so I got really hesitant.
-
Black Panther was great! But I must admit..

Black Panther was fantastic. Only critique I can give is some bad CGI and lighting where it looked obvious that characters were in front of a green screen. Natural lighting backgrounds, artificial lighting on the characters. But the movie as a whole... one of the top five Marvel movies, for me.

@sockmonkey
Michael B Jordan has had an amazeballs career, but he'll always be Wallace to me. -
@Three-Eyed-Crow I know, right? Wallace

I found the movie to be flawless. I honestly wouldn't have changed a thing. Everything happened exactly how and when it needed to to generate the largest impact and forward the plot. It tied in seamlessly to the overarching buildup towards Infinity Wars. The actors' and actresses' were utterly amazing. Visually and artistically it was stunning, and the story hit every single point it needed to without being ham-handed or overblown about it.

I just finished As Above So Below, and I really can't think of another movie that seemed so much like a D&D dungeon crawl. It's got dismal ratings, but from an RPG background, it was a great movie!
I actually don't think this movie gets the props it deserves. I think it's a lot better than reviews say it is. For a horror movie, it's a lot of fun and pretty scary, as far as things go (without being too cheesy). I enjoyed it, when I watched it!

I concur... the green screen fight was probably the worse part of an amazing movie for me.
But in many ways it featured the best Marvel villain so far - because he was human. He wasn't a caricature who was basically evil because muahahah, there was a perfectly valid reason for his peeve and in many ways his path could have been a hero's journey. It gave us a reason to sort of root for him and invest emotionally in what happened to the guy - unlike whatever the name of the character Robert Redford played in Cap 2 even though it was still a pretty damn good movie otherwise.
Oh, and the best Disney princess ever. Hell yeah.

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get around to watching Crank. Came across How Did This Get Made's episode and decided to give it a try. I miss movies that embrace ridiculous premises.

You are right.
Look, I like Joss Whedon. I like his tongue-in-cheek-but-formulaic groundwork for the MCU. It was awesome, and the other directors that followed -- Kenneth Branagh, Taika Waikiki, Ryan Coogler, etc. -- have honored that. But he could not, and did not, save Justice League, and Avengers: Age of Ultron was, in my opinion, more or less a waste of time and talent.
Batgirl needs a very, very serious work-over. She has been used primarily as a love interest and a throwaway victim more times than I care to think about. She is also my daughter's favorite DC Superhero Girl, and I, in my cynical way, want her to be more than just some PC that gets paralyzed as a MacGuffin Moment.
I want Greta Gerwig on board to direct. Or Kathryn Bigelow. I want Gail Barringer to produce it, and Felicia Henderson to write the screenplay.
I want Batgirl to be more than how she's been. And I don't think Whedon would have done that.

Branagh preceded Whedon in the MCU. Thor came out before The Avengers.
