Honestly, the biggest plot hole was in the title crawl when they said the First Order ruled the galaxy all of a sudden. When their upstart base blew up in the previous movie. And they like didn't rule the galaxy then. And twelve seconds had passed between the movies..

Ignoring that huge hole, I enjoyed it. THe comedy largely worked for me except for the crank call at the beginning, but they did find their stride.

I just wish they cut an hour out of it, my back was killing me by the end.

It has long been established hat real physics do not apply for Star Wars. Kinda. There is drag /somewhere/, especially with how fighters maneuver.

I especially like how the turbolaser shots at the Mon Cal ship arced like it was artillery fire or a cannonball or something.

re: back pain, good god. I should have verified the theater I went to had those recliner seats.

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

@auspice IKR? 150 minutes is no joke. Like, at least have an intermission or something.

I think the reason that they were saying that the First Order is in control was because they had blown up the Hosnian System in Force Awakens, which was the capital of the Republic. I'd assume that the First Order already had some measure of control in the galaxy before that act -- why else would there be a resistance if they didn't? So taking out the Republic's capital would create a power vacuum that the First Order would capitalize on immediately in the ensuing chaos, expanding their reach.

And I don't thiiiink 12 seconds had passed between the movies (well, with the Luke/Rey storyline, yeah: 12 seconds). But I understood it as we were seeing more of her time on the island than what lined up with what we were seeing of Poe/Finn/Leia. Because if those two storylines were time synced, then Rey was on the island for, like, two days and, jeez, I hope her training was longer than that. I kind of read it as.. the moment Finn woke up and asked 'Where's Rey?', we time-jumped back to catch up with her story a bit and the bulk of her time on the island had been taking place while the rebels were doing whatever off-screen thing they were doing in the ensuing weeks/months before the dreadnaught caught up with them.

              I've got a playlist!

@sockmonkey That's the way I took that particular story arc/timeline to be too.

Hell the theatre I go to have refills of soda but WTF is the point of that if I can't get a refill without missing the movie.

The ability to go to the bathroom without missing 5-10 minutes of prime movie action would be a GODSEND.

I wonder how difficult it would be to convince movie editors to put in a cue that a long, uneventful scene is coming up? Like, have a quick scene where the lead is washing their hands while talking about something--Okay, audience, they're just going to have a five minute romance, you can go hit the can, and be back before anything interesting happens.

No real spoilers here but just to be safe used the tag, the move just let me feeling "meh". Parts felt like a slap in the face. I loved The Force Awakens and left the theater energized with my mind filled with possibilities...I left this movie going "WTF did I just watch?" Very little character development, too many throw away characters, too many characters just thrown away, the entire middle of the movie could have been gutted and you'd not miss a beat, pointless celebrity cameos, ugh...There were some good and great scenes but overall I was just left feeling...meh... 😞

Flat is a good way of describing it. I just... I really did not like the movie. I started MUSHing with Star Wars, I loved the Expanded Universe of Books that followed the Original Trilogy/Prequels.

This movie just left me sad in a way as if I had lost those things. (Obviously not completely lost. I still have the good memories and those old paper backs take up a good portion of my bookshelf)

The Mouse had to throw out a pretty decent and fleshed out world for... this? Why is everyone being witty and snarky and throwing out 80 quips a second? Why is your plot based on a sitcom foundation?

Some are claiming its just trolls, but I usually find the audience score to be the more accurate reflection of what I'll think of a movie. 56% seems to confirm the feeling of "flat".

My eye started twitching at the Critics Consensus stating it honors the saga's rich legacy. I couldn't disagree more. One of the central themes of the entire movie is putting the past behind you, letting the past die. It is a theme that is pretty forcibly made obvious.

Of course there are a few points where they just straight up murder the past.

The one line that simply states "Admiral Ackbar and all of our leadership are dead." With them killing Admiral Ackbar offscreen 30 seconds before hand didn't even really anger me.

Because of course they would fucking do that.

Was he on the Bridge? I didn't see him. Unless there was like a microsecond shot of a Mon Cal ala Fight Club splicing in dick shots into movies, I had no idea he was there until they declared he was dead.
