Let's talk about TS.

that there did need to be some control/limit on just how much/how far players go.

ETA: Way more gross and invasive and wrong than the tentacle porn in the first place.
Also 'gross' and 'invasive' differs for everyone. It's none of our business what the other person's kinks are.
The only responsibility I want folks to assume is to keep it behind closed doors. Don't force me to witness it - since it makes me take part in your sex stuff by association - and we're all good. Tentacle on!
-
I've been MUing a long time, and have yet to encounter a single tentacle. I don't know whether I'm disappointed or relieved.

It's an inversion of the Highlander axiom. There can never be only one!

Don't wait for the tentacles to come to you. Be the tentacles.
I played an octopus Changing Breed. It's not my thing, but it's clearly some people's thing, and I think I may have disappointed them.

I like TS; creative generation of smut is an exercise in writing skill and mutual fappery, a weird sort of human connection through text; but I've had people try to progress from TS into control/manipulation so often that these days if I engage in TS with someone I'm often accused of being "cold" or "distant" after -- and perhaps I am, but it's only because I've had people bend over backwards to try and take autonomy away from me and I loathe the idea of doing it to someone else.
And even when I say it that way, forthrightly, people don't seem to get it. I have had people try to fuck with my head before; I don't want to fuck with yours.
-
...But then, thinking about it, autonomy seems to be a big theme of all my roleplay at this point and I'm amazed at how often that seems to baffle or upset people.
-
Do you guys ever get TS burn out?
Frequently, when I'll get into a IC relationship with someone. We bang, they love it, then it's all that happens.
I try and get to know their friends, but they won't introduce me. I try and go out of the house with them, I try and do dates and have romantic outings but it's almost always something that the other person is just enduring until they to get back to the fucking.
I try to expand my characters social circles outside of the bedroom but usually I end up isolated and eventually I'll just stop logging in.
I think if I start playing again I might be bad at TS just to avoid the same thing happening again. I enjoy the social aspects of TS but I don't want it to be everything there is and for some reason that happens to me a lot.
-
@carex
I certainly get 'will only play sex' or 'will only play relationship RP with little outside it' burn-out, and it's usually a sign for me that this isn't a person I should be shipping with. -
@three-eyed-crow
I guess I could just be mature enough to break up with them but it just seems so rude and insulting. Also it feels kind of silly to say, "I'm more than a penis you know!" there just never seems to be a way to do it without it being super-awkward. -
@carex To be honest, I think it's a really like ... real issue? Think about it: If you were in a relationship with someone RL and all they wanted was to have sex and never leave the house, or all they wanted was to have sex with you but kept all of their friends, their job, etc separate would you be with that person?
I don't think there's anything with wrong ICly playing out a conversation of "all you want is my dick, this isn't a satisfying relationship for me" and then you can keep it all in-character if you don't want to talk to them OOC.
On the flipside you can just say: Hey, I'd like to do something other than TS.
-
I get this a lot, but then I make it a point to have a ton going on outside of any given IC S/O so that, if that's all they want, I get my everything-else elsewhere.
-
Funny side note: I was once a werewolf dating a kinfolk who was really popular and everyone thought we were the cutest couple. She wanted to have kids and stuff and I was all down with that but she got pregnant then just kept having sex.
She got even more horny at the idea of being pregnant. I actually asked some of my pack mates to bang her so I could have some peace and quiet. She was "secretly" having an affair with my best friend thinking she was getting away with something and it barely made a dent in her appetites.
I ended up trying to die a heroic death so I could roll another character and rejoin my pack without being attached to her and the fucking dice just kept saving my life. Over and over and over I survived the most insane things. I ended up gaining rank for slaying Wyrm beasts and exposing corruption of the land because the game would not let me die.

It's OK to say no and FTB the TS.
If they don't respect that you either have a conversation with them or involve staff. I don't give a fuck any more.

This this this this this a million times this. If all they're interested in is the TS, then they will go away on their own, or staff can step in and handle it for them not being respectful. It's a great way to handle this particular type of thing. Low drama, low headache.

Another pet peeve about TS is mages. I was dating a girl ICly when a mage, who literally met her at a party and thought she was cute, used Mind/Corr/Life to impregnate her from across town. Just out of the blue. She had met the guy once for all of three poses. Staff said he could do it so we rolled with it but it was fucked up and she stopped playing that character about a week later.
-
I've had the whole "Wants nothing but TS thing" happen to me a number of times, too. It... definitely causes a burn out. For sure. I've also stopped logging in to characters because of it. I've full on freezered a character about it, too.
The thing is... OOC conversations haven't worked for me. I've had the OOC conversation of "Hey, I'd like to do something other than fuck", and the other person invariably responds with "Oh, sure! We can do something else. I have some ideas. Let's scene!" ... and then those ideas never manifest. Literally it's just placating me OOCly to keep trying to draw scenes straight into sex.
I think that the IC method of having a conversation between the characters might be a better solution.
Edit: I also tried making a completely non-sexual character. That wound up causing a lot of problems ICly for its own sake, and being more trouble than it was worth. YMMV
