RL Awkwardness/Cringe
-
So I couldn't rightly find a place to put this, so I decided to just make a thread about it. Because there's plenty of stuff that makes us, while not exactly angry, still kind of awkward. Or stuff that we either see people do or do ourselves that might be considered cringe.
So like, me, earlier this week, broke up with my girlfriend of six months(there was just nothing going on between us and we broke up amicably with no hard feelings)and still having to live with her until I find a new place. We say it's okay, and it probably is, but man if there isn't that feeling of awkwardness now.
-
Are you just letting this out or are you looking for advice?
-
I'm guessing this is a 'share the moments of cringe'/'that awkward moment when... ' stories spot, but I could be wrong.
(Have been in the situation above, though; it was non-fun. Empathy wince offered in earnest.)
-
Yeah more or less what @surreality said. Just a thread to share in like or similar situations. I mean there was no motivation other than just starting a thread.

In our emergency department, we have a few regulars that I've begun to become acquainted with over the several months I've been working there. One of them is this old black man with a few mental health issues that's regularly in and out of BH hold. He calls me "Sweet Tits" and "Candy Ass" and is generally pretty compliant with me when he's in my care, so I generally grin & bear it even though his nicknames for me are pretty cringey but whatever.
So, today I went to the Walgreens to pick up my medicine from the pharmacy. While I'm waiting in line, I suddenly hear someone shouting, "It's my SWEEEEEEEEEET TITS!"
I turn around, and this fucker halfway across the store limping towards me faster than I've seen him move in like, ever since knowing him. Just grinning like crazy and going, "Hey Sweet Tits! I knew I recognized that ass! C'mere, sugar!"
He was luckily in a good mood today so I talked to him for a few minutes then noped out of there as fast as I could go without running like a mad woman. I wish I could've died right there on the spot. It's hilarious now, thinking back. Pretty awkward and cringey, but not terrible.

Saying "You too" whenever a server sets down your meal at a restaurant and says , "Enjoy your meal".
-
Asking multiple times how someone is in slightly different ways because it’s awkward standing there silently while they give me money or sign the receipt.
“Hey how are you?” When door is opened.
“How’s your night going?” / “You having a good night?” As we take care of money / food exchange.

Ending up in an elevator with a co-worker that you don't get along with and who doesn't get along with you. You both know it but you have to pretend that you don't hate each other's guts.
Him: (Forced smile) So. How are you doing?
Me: (Forced smile back) Alright, thanks. You?
Him: (Gritting teeth) Great.
Me: (Grinding teeth) Good, good.Awkward silence as we both stare intently at our phones even though we don't have a connection, wondering why the elevator has to stop at every fucking floor on the way down god I hate your guts how do you even still have a job you miserable fuc-
DING
Doors open. We are both put out of our misery.

Sitting through a TERRIBLE rendition of a scene you actually auditioned for for real (and killed it) in a workshop/class setting. Holy shit.
-
At work when you first see a coworker in the morning.
"Hey, good morning!"
The second time you run into them, kinda stretching it.
"Hey!"
The third time.
<nods>
The forth time.
<upward nod>
After that...

I was just walking inside after going for groceries and I noticed my next door neighbor has a blue banner with white letters that read TRUMP hanging next to his door. It's at least 5 foot long.
I'm going to just not talk to him for a while...
He's in for a bad week. -
@carex We get something similar to that. Our neighborhood is always split about right down the middle.
We are the only house that never has a sign.
Every four years, we get all the squint from all the neighbors.
(Thankfully, our county is super moderate whichever way the wind ultimately blows, so it's not the warzone you'd expect it to be, but that month or two every four years is awwwwwwwkward.)

@surreality
We live in a deeply conservative area so they are in no danger of retaliation for their political views. There are a lot of Trump supporters around here so I'm just going to stay in my corner until the inquisition of Trump passes.If you haven't been keeping up with the news you might want to be aware, his accountant, his main book keeper since the 1970s just turned states evidence and I really doubt that he was in the construction business for several decades without breaking a few laws here and there.
Bribery and kick backs are the grease that keep the construction business thriving. It's almost impossible to stay clean and in business.
If the FBI looks deep into his financial records, it could get real bad, real fast and his followers may turn violently against anyone they see as supportive of the "witch hunt."
They can't kick him out of office over it but it might get real ugly if they try.
-
@carex I keep the politics talk to a dull roar, since I avoid the politics forum. But that's the same reason we don't put out signs.
I mean, I hate to say it, but... I don't know why we'd have to. We're a respectively a green haired forty-something artist and a massage therapist always dressed in geekery of some sort. This is really not a hard guess for anybody to make.
There's a lot of split ticket voting than is likely the average nowadays here, though, to be honest, since Delaware (with a few notable not-witch exceptions) tends to turn out moderates from whatever official party they're representing. Which, y'know? It's so refreshing in this day and age.

@carex said in RL Awkwardness/Cringe:
He's in for a bad week.
Consider pointing and laughing. The catharsis would be fantastic.
But do it from a distance.

Listening to anyone tell me about how social health care systems don't work.
Listening to anyone tell me about how Canadian is a communist country.
Listening to anyone tell me about how the economy is working.
Listening to anyone, really.

@ganymede Socialism doesn't work! Just look at Denmark! - Tomi Lahren, 2018.

@ganymede Social health care systems work if people aren't abusing the system
Signed, someone who lives in a place with a social healthcare system in place, but which is dysfunctional due to various frauds at various levels
would be better if you had to make symbolic payments to doctor's appointments, etc, if you're not in conditions of extreme poverty.
