Heroes & Villains MUX

Aw, man, someone made a game using the MSHRPG system after I quit mushing?
Ya fuckers.
-
@Auspice And a request for a sheet is what I did. Then I read what I could Google and I have a broad idea of what's going on. I even shared a fan made sheet and pointed out what I liked and what I'm aiming for. Which is 3 parts Netflix Daredevil...not sure about the other part(s) yet. I can't find the sheet suggested to me. (Breakout)
So, while I'm here...I've never RPed a canon character before. I freeze up when I play new OCs. I keep having the same nightmare of being paged that I am Doing It Wrong.
Hell, I get that page every time I try playing nWoD/CoD Vampire.
Any tips?

@Goldfish Netflix Daredevil is actually a pretty accurate portrayal of what's in the comics, character personality-wise.
Often a loner. Roots for the underdog. Takes on hopeless cases. Constant martyr. Willing to die for a cause. Elektra is his Achilles heel.
I think the only thing people dont like is what someone plays an existing character and alters the shit out of them, like a Happy-Go-Lucky Partying Dancing Punisher, for example.
-
I found the sheet you needed that was mentioned on channel (I thought Breakout was a separate book...! Apparently not). I can toss that your way in a PM here shortly.
As for playing a canon character... the fun part about comic chars (and why they're the only canon chars I play)... they vary so much that the important part is finding the core of who they are are and stick to that.
What is the core of, say, Peter Parker? He lost his uncle. He is the bastion of hope. He is the man of quips. He's pretty g-d smart.
From there? Pretty flexible.
Daredevil? All right. He lost his vision in a chemical spill. It was through intensive training, mostly, that he became more. And not just the intensive training, but because he has that much willpower. Daredevil isn't a mutant or anything. So you have to imagine a man who was put through that much training (thanks, Stick!) and has that sort of willpower. The willpower to hone his senses and to put up with the sort of physical abuse he does.
That's how I play comic characters. I find the very core of their beings. The truth at the center of them. And then from there... I shape my own version of them around those truths.
-
@Auspice You're right.
I think people who play FCs need to remember that any given tabletop RPG or MU isn't going to replay stuff the FC has already done. So knowing how Daredevil solved anything in some 1987 Daredevil run is less important than getting to the core of the character so that decisions will feel like decisions he would make.
Which, in most cases, is to constantly push yourself to the point of breaking every bone in your body because you love your friends and dont want them getting hurt in your fights. Then confession. Penance is a big theme with Daredevil.
-
Oooh, I forgot about that one. Yes, penance.
Daredevil is best at beating himself up. Almost too good. Man was kind of a whiny bastard this last season. GET OUT OF THE BASEMENT, MATT.
Ahem.
The person he hates most, often, is himself.
Knowing the comics is good, but generally just to inform how the character would handle a situation. Not so much for 'well in issue ### of run....'
-
@Auspice Thank you! If nothing else, it'll help my understanding.
@Ghost Funny how you listed all the things I love about Matt Murdock and all the things I hope to bring into play.
My first real exposure to the character was the film and...I stand by the statement that the director's cut is better. Note that I didn't say good...
I fell in love with the Netflix version. And I just learned about digital comics through my local library so, I'll have move frames of reference.
-
@Goldfish Have fun, then. Sounds like you chose the right FC for you.

Oh, good! I was gonna suggest you check if you have Hoopla through your library. I just maxed out my 10 monthly borrows this week.
I think Hoopla is the best damn thing for comic fans. I can't afford to buy comics (nor do I have the space to have so many), but man Hoopla. It lets me just dive in any/everywhere.
...also I think at this point, maybe @Arkandel or @Ganymede should find a split point for this to become a H&V Disc thread.
-
@Ghost No, it's not FASERIP Marvel from TSR. It's Marvel Heroic from MWP, which came out back in 2012.
Very, very different system. Not my favorite, but not the worst, either IMO. And the system isn't getting much use, anyways.
-
@Runescryer I know it's not FASERIP. I'm talking about the MWP version. Could never get my finicky-ass TT group to try it.
-
@Ghost Got it. I'm just used to MSHRPG=FASERIP. That's how long I've been indoctrinated....

I have a copy of the core book I can share.
Please.
I just need some examples to work with, is all. That's how I learn best/fastest.

PM on the way!

@Ganymede The game website also has a Resources link to websites with character write-ups for DC characters and some missing Marvel characters
-
@Ganymede Also you can ask the people on the game if you're feeling stumped! People are super helpful with suggestions, and staff is usually around to help answer questions!

This is probably true, but the toxically masculine part of me won’t ask for directions. I looked at the examples, but it just didn’t click in my head.
Auspice has pointed me in the right direction.
-
@Ganymede What, a human trash panda wasn't enough, so now you're gonna play the ACTUAL TRASH PANDA?
-
I hadn’t considered that, actually, but now I may.
-
I think I am in need of a good Hero type MU. I took a look at the wiki, and I think I am in the same boat as Gany where it is a little confused and things aren't clicking for me (or I am just tired). Can someone give me a mental boost?
