Maybe this could get forked to another thread? It’s WAY off topic.
Seriously, I had to wade through pages upon pages of backscroll to see if Gray Harbor was banning trans people (they aren't to my knowledge!).

@Three-Eyed-Crow they aren’t and they never have.
-
@Three-Eyed-Crow we are definitely not banning trans people or anything like that.
But hey! In real Gray Harbor news, we just celebrated our 3 month gameversary. I never expected us to have such a huge and lively population and logging in every day brings me a great amount of joy. So thanks to everyone who is playing and making the game fun for everybody. I truly appreciate all our amazing players!

But the REAL question is if you are banning legless psychic bartenders, or if that's just not the way you roll.

Yeah, I feel guilty for having my post lead to this. I owe an apology to @bear_necessities . Sorry.
For the record, I just apped a nonbinary character on Gray Harbor, got accepted without issue, and am having a great first scene. I really like this game so far!

Are we about to have the 'anyone playing someone who is a bigot regardless of context just wants to get their secret RL bigotry wank fodder' conversation again? Because it feels like we are. If that's on the menu, someone please confirm, so I can ignore this thread.
-
I think @Arkandel should fork this whole thread off since it has nothing whatsoever to do with Gray Harbor.
But as long as we're off the rails...

What if someone wanted to do a western ranchers Sheep Wars/Cattlemen/homesteader conflict theme/game But everyone was literally apping in ex 10th Cavalry members to be experts in Native Relations?
You see this in western MUs all the time, to a point. Everybody wants to play something that would have been a minority in that location/time period, be it a Calamity Jane gunfighter, or a freed slave who became a doctor, or a rich dilettante on the run, or a Chinese business owner, or a female Pinkerton detective, or a Buffalo soldier, or an openly LGBTQ person, or whatever. Taken individually, each of these concepts did in fact exist somewhere in the west. But when you put all of them in one cattle town, it really doesn't bear much resemblance to historical fiction any more.
Some might say "who cares? it's a game" and some might say "wtf I thought this was supposed to be a historical game". I seriously do not think that the latter group of folks is being bigoted. I'm a pretty ardent feminist myself, but even I could accept that female infantrymen were not historical in TGG's WWI campaign and that my boundary-pushing female cattlewoman was going to face historically-appropriate prejudice in the 1840's Australian outback on Pioneer. If folks don't want to deal with that, cool, but do say that anybody who wants to explore those historical settings is bigoted? I respectfully disagree.

I didn't seriously think so and was mostly being tongue and cheek and also wanted to say WE ALL KNOW THIS GAME THIS THREAD IS ABOUT ISN'T BANNING TRANS PEOPLE, RIGHT?

The only concept we've outright banned is former assassins turned history professors Bartenders are still closed tho. Go be a barista.

Same. I actually played the 'woman soldier in disguise' thing in TGG with the understanding that this arc was done the second she was found out. She was found out! Her run was fairly short, given the realities of getting wounded on that game. I enjoyed it as a mini-arc but would've enjoyed it much less if the reaction to her had just been 'shrug, whatevs' because I was playing that game to enjoy the setting, including some (Hollywood-level) realities of it.

" However, I know way too many military realism dorks that be like: "* Ennnhhhhh, I'm not racist but if this is supposed to be a military realism game it's weird that a Samuel L. Jackson PB is an officer.*"
i mean honestly this sounds like a personal problem and you should probably purge your friendslists.

Well dang, there goes my idea if I decided to app...
-
Seems pretty reasonable to me. I mean, they didn't say anything about former assassins turned social studies or shop teachers. It's all good.
-
...but I'm waiting on former assassin turned home ec teacher who bartends in the evening because a teacher's salary doesn't cover jack shit in this economy.

No I appreciate that interjection, as someone looking to someday make a character on GH and who usually plays some flavor of non-hetero characters.
