Sexual themes in roleplay
-
I wish it was treated as a story and character element rather than a hormone induced OOC motivation.
Admittedly it does make players forget to play the most efficient way and do human stoopid IC. However, that ofte is lost amidst all the other human stoopid.

I've backed way, way off from ye olden days of yore, though. I had my phase where I sought it out frequently, and it tends to lead to all sorts of problems with some of those clingy players that had been discussed here in another thread, and often the kinds that aren't the relatively benign kind of clingy.
I have a hypothesis about this.
There are people who genuinely think that, because you typesexed them, you are now in some sort of Relationship with them.
This has its direct parallels in the People Who Get Mad If Their Spouses Typesex Someone Else.
Yes, this happens.
I am serial.
Super serial.
There was a thread about it on old WORA. -
I have TSed in the past but do longer do. The reason was pretty simple: even though I kept both hands on the keyboard, doing it is still arousing. This meant I was getting aroused with another person who is not my partner, with whom I am monogamous. So, I felt guilty, and I stopped. None of this affects what anyone else does regarding TS, and I don't care what anyone else does.

That is so kawaii desu ne I could lie down and die.
No, I'm glad you posted it, though, it correlates with my post.
FWIW, I don't put my hands on my genitals while typesexing. I'm an amateur writer and have too much respect for my craft to do so.
Nah, what I do is, I save the logs, and THEN...heh heh.

What on earth is going on?

The Monthly WORA TS discussion.
I guess we're supposed to drink, or some other God Damned Thing.
I have a suggestion for a new MU* Soapbox Drinking Game.
- When someone posts, drink.
That's all, really.
-
@Cirno
But I don't want to get that drunk... -
I slammed an entire 24oz can of beer before reading this forum, but, yeah, I understand your point.

@Cobaltasaurus
Progress!
Do not stand in the way of progress.

Every now and then I hear from people about TS and it's often pretty dismissive of anything outside what we are individually comfortable with.
For example it's said (and often) that "well, it's just a form of RP, there's nothing to talk about" which I think is pretty much where you stand @Ganymede? But then again there's also "what a slut/manwhore <X> is, TSing around when they're married to <Y> iRL", and the opinion of how certain forms of TS are wrong/disgusting has definitely been expressed.
I've certainly heard of "all he/she does is TS" way more often in a disparaging fashion than I have "all he/she does is combat" or whatever other form of RP - in that way it's not even sexist, men are shamed as often as women in my experience. Well, alright, maybe a little less, but not by far.
I think that yes, it merits discussing.
-
You forget the camp that complains that people pretend that they aren't hormonally involved via TS and thus may be more irrational about it than usual. That people conflate the real world privacy about their sex lives with hiding any sexual related activity about their characters from anyone but their TS partners.
Yes, I am a camp, all by myself.

People still think two men kissing is gross, for some reason, and that women shouldn't have large breasts(or show people too much of them), so I ascribe the TS-phobia to modern-day (Western) Society's continuing hang-up about sexuality.
It ain't no thing, but a chicken wing.

I sort of agree with @Cirno.
I don't see why that makes them morons if it makes them uncomfortable for any reason.
I don't care if anyone wants to TS or doesn't, but every time somebody makes a snide "I'm here to role play, not to TS." comment I want to just stab them in the neck.
Search your feelings. I am right. You know this to be true.
LukeHR....I am your mother.DUN DUN DUN, DUN DUN DUN, DUN DUN DUNNNNNN

(It's irrelevant to this discussion (*) but does anyone get the feeling if @HelloRaptor could stab people over the internet we'd have an unprecedented worldwide bloodbath?)
(*) ... I think. I mean, whatever turns you people on.

Can we lump all these people's comments into a general "WrongFun" category?
As an aside, I do believe in WrongFun when it breaks theme, setting, or possibly game rules. I know Mages have the kinkiest sex, but are any of them worried about the Abyss during it? No. It should at least be part of the game-play, like it is any other time.

I haven't had a chance to read this full thread, but I feel that @Arkandel failed for not making the OP simply this URL:

I'm not in the "there's nothing to talk about" crowd. I'm in the "it's none of my business" crowd.
People will judge for all sorts of really stupid reasons. I'm pretty sure at least one person judges me harshly because my PCs are either teeny-tiny women (Clarice, Ripley) or uber-mensch (Max, Sam (if I finish up that damned BG)). And my PCs tend to be frosty-boxy or incredibly flirty too; at least, I think they've been perceived as such. Maybe not, but I honestly don't give a shit -- I have fun.
If a player is TSing so much that they are not spending time in their IC roles, presuming they have one, then that's a problem that staff has to deal with. If the player is TSing so much because of staff, or boredom, or, fuck, it's not worth dealing with anyone else on the game, then you have a game-wide problem. I'm of the theory, however, that the average player would rather RP through plots, politics, and other events than TS every single night because, like dungeon-crawling in Final Fantasy XIII, it's fucking boring after a while.
If we're going to have a discussion about "sexual themes in roleplay," then let's talk about sexual themes. That's not what you presented: you asked, bluntly, why people do or do not engage in TS. In my opinion, that has very little to do with sexual themes in roleplaying.
Some of the most sexual scenes I've had involved very little mention of thrusting, kissing, or nibbling. There was seduction, character development, emotional moments, and a lot of other roleplaying that was far more interesting than TS. And to me, it was all very sexual.
Then again, we lawyers find the weirdest shit arousing.

It was an initial question to get the ball rolling. I apologize if it sounded like it was meant to encapsulate the thread's content. It just seemed less tacky than asking "so what do you think about raep-RP!" which is what spawned it.
