MSB Peeves

  • @Doozer Oh, lord, it so was. "Honey, you're gonna be staying with us for almost a month, and there's two things you should know. First, if you stay longer and it goes over a month, you need to throw in on dishes and laundry. Second, <Coke lecture>."

    It that important in Atlanta.

It is the home of the Coca-Cola HQ.

...but also coke is just superior to pepsi in every way.

  • @Auspice I live in a Pepsi bottling town, but weirdly it's not like that here. It's just way more common to find it locally since the local restaurants get a better deal from the distributor that's literally just down the road.

I'm just like 'coffee, seltzer... whatever's on sale this week.'

    That's because it's Pepsi. >.>

(I fully admit I am 100% a Coke fan. I get that sense in the summer time of 'man, you know what'd be refreshing right now? A coke.' Pepsi has just always been way too sweet for me.)

ETA: also, in my headcanon, surr only drinks coffee and nothing else.

  • Pitcrew

Coke has a whole museum there, not just bottling and whatnot. It's got the historical caché of having kind of invented modern soda, which is probably the reason for the difference.

  • @Auspice The folks I know who go for the diet stuff swear by Coke almost universally. I can't go near the sugar replacements, so I have no idea.

I drink soda so rarely it's 'whatever's on sale'. We do try to get the cane sugar Pepsi if it's around to avoid the corn syrup (if we're going for sugary crap, better it be actual sugary crap), but it's never around.

When I am less lazy/the soda stream is charged up I just mix my own with the Monin sugar cane cola syrup. (It makes both taste like asphalt by comparison, but nnngh $$$$.)

  • Pitcrew

I wish had an OG Coke. Like 1900's Coke. Just to taste it.

Nope, just coffee. Forever. YOU CAN'T TRICK ME.

Also, I mean, it's Atlanta what else are they gonna brag about.

  • I know the history stuff is all there, and the museum/etc.

Local brand loyalty always amuses me a little. We have something somewhat similar here, in that most folks in the area don't go 'to the convenience store', they 'go to Wawa'. This is partly because almost every convenience store is a Wawa, but the lingering 7-11s and similar get referred to the same way bafflingly often.

Until very recently, 7-11 sold lottery tickets, but Wawas did not.

Watching people argue about this for decades at the front of Wawas was more entertaining than I should admit, because you just knew they said 'go to Wawa and get...', and actually meant 7-11.

    @insomniac7809 Strip clubs.

I swear us Pepsi fans must live in shame somewhere. Where are my people?

    PEPSI

    IMGUR Y U HATE

  • @Goldfish If it makes you feel any better, the only soda we currently have in the house is 2 small bottles of Pepsi, something ridiculous like 5 12-packs of seltzer, a bizarre assortment of flavored ginger ales (blackberry, cranberry, green tea) and that one can of Squirt I'm saving like a bottle of champagne for a special occasion.

Because regions suck and you can't get Squirt here normally. :|

(Go ahead and make fun of that name, lord knows we do. But that stuff spoiled us horribly and we don't do citrus soda otherwise now in this house.)

  • @surreality said in MSB Peeves:

That's because you Yanks have never had Wink.

  • If you're near the border you can get Mexican Coke, and not (just) the El Chapo kind.

Lots of Mexican restaurants carry Coca-Cola (a SODA) from Mexico that uses cane sugar instead of wtfchemical.

    Best. Stuff. Ever.

  • @Ghost You don't even need to live near the border to get it. I live near Washington DC and can get Mexican Coke at pretty much every place that sells soda.

Alas I lack the necessary descriptive powers to relate just how much better it is than the American-made stuff.

    Lol I'll try.

"Imagine what Coca-Cola tastes like in other countries, or pre-1970s, without high frustose corn syrup. It tastes LESS like a sugary bath in chemicals humans were not meant to consume, and tastes more like a soda fountain soda pop."

  • Pitcrew

We still have tonic aisles around here, although they are fewer and further between than they were when I was young. When I was a kid I thought that tonic was storebrand soda cause that's what my dad bought and called it. And then soda was like, your Cokes and Pepsis.

And if I had known my husband called it 'pop' I never would've married him.
