@Auspice I like the same meal but with the Hormel chili with beans or more recently the Campbells chunky chili. I like the beans tho, but the chili flavor is the important part

You're lucky that you can manage to drown yourself in work.
When depression hits me (esp. seasonal), it's a chore to even drag myself out of bed.
(And yet at night, when I go to bed, I lie awake reading or watching tv)

When I'm drowning in depression I can spend 10 hours straight just watching TV.

Being sick or depressed is the only time my cleaning/organization falls to shit.

I've also learned that fried rice (shrimp, pork, vegetable, doesnt matter) and egg drop soup is both the ultimate DEPRESSION meal and the ultimate HAVE A COLD meal.

Hot. Filling. Reheats well. Reasonably priced.

Get dough from the store (it's a yeast/flour/water dough you can buy for about .75c American). Divide into 8-10 balls. Stuff with cheddar and cooked bacon (or country smoked ham sandwich meat). Bake. Dip in home made garlic butter.

Congee is cheap and comfortable and is my first go to. If I want crunchies I can put crunchies in it. Or some veggies, or meat or an egg or fresh herbs or a squirt of sriracha or whatever sauce I want or furikake, whatever. In addition to feeling sick I keep on getting punched in the face with this depression so I put some crunchies and some sliced ginger in it the last time I had it this weekend.

However, I have an issue and a major one with eating anxiety and sadness so if I am not able to cook I know I'm going to fall face first into bags of takis and I just have to deal with the pain later. I wouldnt call that a meal or nutritionally supportive at all though.

I have no idea why, but they're magnetic to me when I cycle down. I can p much lay on the couch with a random cat on my hip staring at the television and sustain myself on them with a minimum of... well, everything, really, including motion.

I keep several single-serve pots of soup in my freezer for when I'm depressed. Put them in the microwave for ten minutes, stir, another five, done.

In the US Chinese buffets include: Chinese food, sushi, pizza, corn dogs, spaghetti, troughs of gravy, and they'll pour that shit into a bucket all in one gloppy mix and you can just...feed.

@Ghost Oh don't get me wrong, we have buffets with every kind of food under the sun (that can be cooked in massive batches in 20 minutes or less) but we just... call them buffets.
