@Arkandel
I have zero interest in football (I was chatting with a friend of mine about FNL and she started making fun of me when it became apparent I had NO CONCEPT of what position Tim Riggins played despite having watched every episode). It's incorrect to say it' s not "about" football, but it's just a framing device (and I guess if you're an actual sports person, the constant come-from-behind wins are pretty dumb and Coach Taylor frequently makes lulzy decisions on the field). -
I think the great sports movies and shows manage to distill the emotional connection that sports fans find. It's like translating that love and passion into something that people who don't like sports can still understand, because that's the aspect of it that's universal. Passion, loyalty, desperation, etc.

I watch a ton of sports but I can honestly say the best sports movie ever was one about a sport I don't care about. Caddy Shack.
Though I have found with a few rare exceptions movie versions of sports are rarely closer to real sports then Law and Order cases were to real trials. And should be looked at in the same manner.

I couldn't get through the first season, partly because whatever they do well with the interpersonal relationships they ruin by not continuing the shows strengths once they go back to football. Its like when you see really bad CGI in a movie with a really good story. You can't take the rest of the movie seriously, even if it is good otherwise.

Kinda sorta. I don't know, it just hasn't stood out as something I absolutely need to watch. If it comes out and gets great reviews, I might dip my toes into it, though.
Also, The Wire was the best. And yes, the last season was the worst.
Speaking of The Wire makers, I always felt I was the only person in the world who watched Treme.

I kinda defend it now by remembering that Sleazoid Politiican Tommy Carcetti is based on Martin O'Malley, and I had some fun imagining him dealing with the...whacky final season plot in the same manner.
-
Carcetti isn't apparently based as much on O'Malley as people think, I have read. Also, Season 2 was the worst.
-
@Three-Eyed-Crow I just never really bought the Fake Serial Killer plotline.

My sports movies/TV shows peeve FOREVER is how hard it is to pull off a basketball one.
The reason it's so hard is that for some sports like (say, football or hockey) they get to hide athletes behind helmets, and for other sports you can fake playing well since there are specific but generic enough moves involved (baseball, golf) so they can teach someone to execute them convincingly.
Basketball? There's no way in hell someone can just pick up decent enough dribbling skills for one movie enough to do even a crossover halfway convincingly. That guy who can't dribble and shoot a jumper like a pro - and we've seen pros' shots thousands of times so the difference would be noticeable immediately - will stick out like a sore thumb.

@Arkandel Spacejam. /mic drop.

70's rock drama, produced by Martin Scorsese and MICK JAGGER. The music! The hair/sunglasses/mustaches! The PANTS! I absolutely need to watch this. I'm shocked I'm alone on this forum. I feel like such a nerd but this is a place FOR nerds am I the wrong kind?

I am in love with O'Malley no joke, we used to call him McDreamy cause he came to do some perfect-smile photo shoots where I used to teach I wish he could be governor forever. (I know he made some glaring errors, not trying to derail this into politics) the guy who plays him better be handsome or I will turn of The Wire and be done.

I will say, the reason I enjoyed The Wire as much as I did is because it made me love and invest in its characters more than almost any other series I can name (with the possible exception of Friday Night Lights). Including people who'd be one-off villains in any other series. It's admirable in many other ways, but that's why I love it, and why it never felt like Eating My Vegetables TV. I can understand why it feels like homework to some people, but it never did for me after I got past the first few episodes (I feel like there's a moment in the fourth episode of S1 where you're either hooked or you're not).
It was always pitched to me as not a 'crime drama' (I am not super into those) but a slice of life drama about different aspects of a city. They happened to pick Baltimore which is like just over there. points somewhere nearish so that adds an extra interest factor on top, and everyone I knew who watched it told me I should which usually means I will within 10 years or so.

Anyone else watch Schitt's Creek on Amazon? Sometimes I don't know whether to laugh or cringe.
-
So anyone want to laugh at me? I think I realized my absolute favorite new show of the 2015-2016 season. And it isn't Supergirl1. No, I think my favorite overall new show is Life in Pieces.
-
@tragedyjones We don't need an excuse but it's always good to have extra ammunition.

Now that it is no longer a double post: Daredevil Season 2 Trailer 1

If any of you care, Vinyl was decent. Didn't need a 2 hour pilot, that was too much, but I am optimistic for the regular 1 hour format. Music! Arguments! People playing awkward versions of Robert Plant!

IF you're still positive 3 episodes from now, I'll give it a try.

The iZombie tv show has turned me into an outright fan of a show for the first time in years.
