Is anyone else watching assorted horror movies or shows and find themselves thinking at times "how long would this last if Sam and Dean just happened to drive by?"

During a con, Ackles said that The Vampires Diaries should end with the Impala rolling into Mystic Falls. XD

The funny thing is most series/movies wouldn't even be that challenging or significant. Something like The Haunting of Hill House doesn't merit a whole episode, it'd be more of what Dean answers Sam for 'what took him so long' to pick him up on the way to breakfast.

I just hate the show for its overall treatment of women. Although I think these three words basically sum up why the show is terrible:

              Racist ghost truck.

The new season of The Crown is fantastic. I love how they humanize all of these horrible people just so we can be disappointed in how horrible they are.

I know it's been around for years, but I'm actually really liking "The Punisher" on Netflix.

I'd avoided it for a while because I was concerned that it might be a bit too Purge/OOORah/Tacticool/Don'tTreadOnMe. After swearing off Walking Dead because misery porn is just too much for me during a pandemic and all the social/political drama in life, I kept it at arm's length.

I was wrong. The Punisher makes it clear that the story of a soldier who wasn't proud of what he did in war, while suffering with PTSD, still stands for good things and doesn't support domestic terrorists as heroes. He's a tortured soul, but still a good man. The Punisher on Netflix is every bit the same Frank Castle who sneered at cops wearing Punisher logos. I'm enjoying it a lot.

Delete the Hog Pit. It'll be fun.

Yeah, I'm generally super not thrilled about their treatment of women in the show, especially during earlier seasons....

And yet there's also heaps of what's supposed to be Manly Man Men Who Fight Monsters and Wear Flannel and Guns/Cars/Power Tools just, like..... regularly having all the feels at each other? And hugging? And crying sometimes? And nobody in-world is fucking weird at them about it?

                    It's.... it's a strange show.

                      Re-watched Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Wow. It's still good. It was always good, but it is really good. You never quite appreciate how good it is, I think, when you're a young adult. Now that I'm an older adult, I see the layering of story and how they draw everything together nicely.

It's clear that this is an American version of a classic Anime tale. And this is a good thing: it is fresh and different, and entirely its own. The flavor of everything is just right, including the animation.

It ranks at No. 3 on my list of Ganymede's Best Animated Series ever, but to be fair I've watched an awful lot of animated shows and No. 3 is still pretty damn high.

@Ganymede Does it get better after episode 3? It's as far as I've watched and I found it a bit too kids/YA-oriented for my tastes but I've heard really good things.

Absolutely. What feels "immature" and "young adult" is actually really important in understanding Aang as a character. Things really begin to take hold when you get mid-way through the first season.

The same can be said about She-Ra.

@Warma-Sheen Just note, Wayward Sisters would have done fine outside of Supernatural. Jodi and Donna are absolutely beloved by the fanbase. CW literally loathes most female leads though, and they bailed on it without even giving it a chance saying "bloodlines" had a better shot creatively then bailing on that as well.

Jodi and Donna are loved, but the girls weren't. And they were supposed to be the main characters of that show as evidenced by the pilot's title. I don't loathe female leads at all but this wasn't a spinoff about Jodi and/or Donna. It was about three bratty girls I can't name. Pass.

@Quinn During an early years Dragon*Con panel, the collective of fandom there dubbed it the "Racist Monster Truck Episode".

@Cupcake I remember that one. But that sounds like the first couple of seasons of the OC. The only black character on there was a truck.

The girls weren't because they only got that one episode (and a couple of episodes here and there before/after). Jodie and Donna could have pulled the weight until the girls grew into the characters. I feel like the biggest problem was "backdoor pilots".

Like, "the show wasn't going to be good because it's not exclusively about these beloved characters but also about these other characters with whom the former have a rapport and relationship" is a harsh take. It's not like it was given an actual chance.

@Coin What do you mean by an "actual chance"? Shooting a pilot at all is a pretty big deal. Having it aired is even a bigger deal. Most pilots never get that chance before they are decided on.

@Warma-Sheen It wasn't a pilot. It was a regular Supernatural Episode that was meant to be a "backdoor pilot" for the new series. No actual series ended up being ordered.

                                            IT'S TIME FOR A-NI-MA-NI-ACS!!!

All 10 episodes of the reboot are on Hulu. And they're really good. Are there a few things I wish were done differently? Sure. But overall, it's still got the quality of the original show. It's definitely worth taking a few episodes for a test drive.

                                            My main quibbles:
-Pinky & the Brain intro bumper is now mostly CGI and very...meh
-Lots of time spent on songs/musical numbers that aren't as good as the originals.

But, for the most part, still funny, still self aware, still multi-level, and still great parody/satire.
