          Having my own desk.

Dear lord I never appreciated when I was younger just what a difference not having to work physically next to other people can make.

          A) I can procrastinate on MU* without feeling too awkward about randomly having pictures of celebrities on my screen or looking like a l33t h4xx0r. (Oh goodness, the amount of times someone's assumed I'm a tech wizard because I had a black screen with scrolling text open.)

          B) Nobody judges me for headbanging like an idiot or boogying in my seat to the music in my headphones.

Beautiful scenes that make you cry in spite of yourself.

I think something broke me this weekend.

My dog. I know it sounds trite and overused, but there are days when he is the only thing that keeps me going. And when I get home from work, and All he wants is to lay on me and love me? It's like the heart Fairy in Zelda giving a fill-up.

@macha I'm right there with you. I don't think I'd be here today if it wasn't for my little guy. They are the definition of unconditional love.

I sometimes think about how shameful it is that the artificial society we've constructed is so torturous for humans to exist in but can be handled with such good grace by dogs. "Warm house, no wind, lots of food, soft places to lie down on, people to love? This is paradise!"

That scene was and still is fucking heartwrenching. You passed your Turing Test, lawbot.

I've had the last couple of days off from work because I wanted to be home for my SO's birthday. They thought they were going to have today off as well. Turns out they had to go into work as they're a senior member of the team they're on. So I have the day to myself, which was unexpected. I mean, this really just means I have a free day of playing Breath of the Wild.

However, my step dad, who has been a construction worker his entire life(and yes, he does carry a lot of the stereotypical traits that one imagines with a person of that trade), so while he and I have not always agreed on a number of things, we generally tend to get along well.

To that end, one of the few things I ever expect from him is to show something that might be regarded as actual emotion, so he must've been in a rare mood when he called my SO at work and did some silly singing rendition of happy birthday over the phone.

If that wasn't odd enough, the context to this is the fact that my SO grew up without a father, what I know of him, he was a drunk and an abuser to my SO's mother and vanished when she was 3 or so never to be heard from again. Told me this morning that it was the first time in her life that she could imagine what it felt like to have a father.

I realized then, and as I write this as this news is all over a half hour old, that I have no idea what that might be like. The SO doesn't talk about it much, but said they cried at work. I don't think my step dad really knows the impact he just made.

I'll have to call him tonight. Because it's wasn't something I expected at all out of him. Always knew he was a decent man, underneath the layers of unyielding work ethic and blunt pragmatism.

We just had a going away happy hour for someone who quit (better opportunity) a couple weeks ago (mine is tomorrow).
Spent three hours hanging out at a bar.
Decided we're gonna make it a weekly event. Yes even those of us who don't work at the company any more.

I really love these guys. Convo went from work to just....all the things. I will really miss this place.

She'll probably wake up and chomp me for that, but it will be worth it. (She is still learning 'no, you do not hit bone when you "let's play wrestle!" bite', having not learned as a kitten. Love hurts.)

                                Oh fucking well.

As a 'going away' gift, coworker got me a couple of his favorite foods. One is one he introduced me to during my first week here: Grillo's Pickles.

The other is Treeline Cheese (specifically the herb-garlic french style soft cheese) because I'd asked him recently what his favorite vegan cheeses are (he keeps a dairy-free kosher).

I already ❤ Grillo's a lot but don't often indulge because they are pricey and I am excited to try the cheese.

I told myself I wasn't gonna cry today because I'm not a crier but omg.

Emails from people I've not even (by my estimation) interacted with much thanking me for my work, praising it.

And then I found out that the guide I developed is now being used as a formula (the layout, design, etc) for the documentation of tools going forward. Totally teared up when I read that.

I'm about to see my favorite band in the world.
The two original members remember me even tho it's been about six years since I last saw them.
I've already made a couple friends.

Tonight's gonna be a good night
