RL things I love

Before my divorce in '14, I used to bake. A lot. Pretty much weekly and often new things. Spent a while perfecting a few bread recipes, trying all kinds of cup/cakes.
But after the divorce, things ended up in upheaval for a while (as they do) and I just lost the spirit. However, in binging the episodes that Netflix has of The Great British Bake-Off, I've found myself a bit renewed.
Today was something simple: peanut butter cookies.
Tomorrow I think I might put together a soda bread with cranberries.
Later in the week, I'm thinking of trying my hand at arlettes (though I will likely cheat and buy my puff pastry because making it is tedious). -
Another reason I love you (um in a friendly way or something). I use to throw these dinner parties with themes and I loved decorating the table and making stuff from scratch. Life just sort of blah'ed. I've been binge watching a cooking show and I'm like. Damnit. I'm going to start doing that.

I did that for a handful of months at one time! Once a month, dinner party, some sort of theme for the drinks. The boozy hot chocolate bar was the biggest hit.

My cat loves string. Be it a proper 'string toy,' an old shoelace, or a length of braided yarn (my mom made her one of these). And not just to play with, no. Today I woke up with her sleeping across my legs and all three of her current string toys arrayed around her.

Cheerios is doing a 'bring back the bees' thing where they'll send you wildflower seeds to plant. Check it out!

Son's sitting in his high chair, having some dinosaur-shaped chicken nuggets and green beans. The cat is in the kitchen with him, sitting on the floor about 12' in front of the boy's high chair. Each time he raises a chicken nugget to his mouth, the cat tracks his hand and the food. Then back down when the boy lowers his hand. After a couple chicken nuggets, Boy seems to recognize that Cat is essentially begging for food. Boy just glowers at Cat with a sort of look that says you're out of your goddamn mind, these are dinosaur chicken nuggets.
This is a remarkable improvement over past behavior where anything Boy picked up ended up thrown at Cat, for his consumption. Who'd have thought cats loved shells and cheese?

@Faceless I want to play Musical Will He Or Won't He again sometime in the near future! That was hilariously fun.
-
-
@Cupcake definitely! It was interesting to see what he'd get immersed in and wouldn't. We watched Moana yesterday and it was a big hit. I think of the dozen musicals you suggested he only showed a lack of interest in maybe two of them so I'm curious what else can get his attention.
@Auspice hah! He's open to eating all manner of things anymore. According to the vet a few weeks ago when we last took him for a repeat issue, his stomach lining has been getting inflamed which apparently makes him feel as though he's going hungry. So while he's normally satisfied with his cat food, sometimes he's just sort of like: That slice of pizza looks damn good.

My cat (RIP man, RIP) use to go INSANE for cheez-its. Normal cheese he was like meh. A box of cheese crackers and he'd lose his shit. He ate through a box once to get to them. He was also kinda like 'I guess' about chicken nuggets. I made the chik'n ones (vegan for all of you) and thought they were gross. He went insane for those too.
Obviously, my cat was a drug addict in one of his lives and needed chemicals and fake food in his diet.

Oooh, what brand? Or did you make them from scratch? Gardein expanded into the states and stopped distro in canada it seems, I'm looking for a new fix.

Quorn
But I do think I have a recipe in my vegan notes. If I find it, I'll PM it to you. I'm in the middle of packing, so it might not be for a month - unless by some miracle I haven't packed it yet.

Qorn is also really handy for emulating pork chops!
And seitan works super well with Cavender's greek spice to make faux-gyro meat. -
Blizzards and a stocked pantry full of food.

@Auspice Seitan is awesome! I do a holiday loaf for thanksgiving and xmas from the post-punk kitchen and it's really tasty.

My favorite, favorite spinach-artichoke dip recipe comes from a vegetarian cookbook.
But I'm sorry, I will never ever get behind vegan cakes/cupcakes. I've tried so many. I need mah dairy.

Snow days.

Dad Jokes that aren't forced. Especially when you're the one that gets to use them and it's really the first time you've realized you're using them. You have to take a step back and just take a moment to be fascinated by the situation.
"Hi Freezing, I'm dad."
It's almost enough to bring a tear to your eye, it's so beautiful.

I used to bake. A lot. I spent about 3 months coming up with a new cupcake recipe each week. Perfected a couple bread recipes. It was just sort of my joy.
But then I went through my divorce, life was in upheaval, and I just sort of lost it.
The three seasons that Netflix has of The Great British Baking Show has, however, renewed it in me. I began simple: peanut butter cookies. I've got plans in the works for a soda bread with cranberries (waiting for a day my migraine isn't so bad after work). And when I visit someone later this month who has a superior kitchen to my own, I plan to put together a rum and orange madeira cake.
I've missed this feeling so much.

Since this can't go on MU things I like because I don't think I've ever RPed at any length with a lot of you.
I like @Auspice and @Ganymede for discussions here and letting me hit on them. It breaks up bad days.
I love @lordbelh and am just waiting (in the bushes) for him to love me back.
And you know everyone else too. Really, I tend to like everyone for the most part.
Disclaimer: I don't know these people RL but it's not MU either
