My district is solidly in the performing category now. (This has not always been the case.)
That said, the state is gearing up to fuck over low income districts with some changes to our accountability system. So my district has decided to get militant and go to war early versus waiting for the state to act.
I love my district.

Not being hospitalized for one of the scariest asthma incidents I have had in like 20 years. Amazing what a difference getting a nebulizer and getting inhalers that arent fucking expired makes. I responded well enough I was able to avoid admission, but that was fucking scary and I now have at least an inkling of greater understanding for what some people go through all the time, esp. with their kids.
Also, kaiju (my youngest) SHOWED ME HE HAS A LOOSE TOOTH!!!! So not ready, though he is excited. It seems like only yesterday I was processing jobs and respecs on TR with him on the nursing pillow! (The human grub stage has always been fantastic for me as far as mush availability, then I just have to take time off once that wears off through toddlerdom!)

@mietze Peak week is a terrifying time for a lot of people. I'm so glad you have things that can help you at home now, and I am so scared of my own asthma flaring back up someday in the future. I can't even imagine the relief of not having to make a trip to the hospital while being unable to really breathe.

I had to google this term. As an asthma-sufferer, I'd never heard of it before!
But then, it's that shift into cold, wet wintery weather that always gets me. Usually late October to early November I'll find myself going through a ton of inhalers.
I'm on singulair now (my doctor's attempt to help my seasonal and illness-triggered asthma), so my fingers are crossed it won't happen this year.
-
I only just found out about peak week too. I'm not an asthma sufferer (by some small miracle), but my allergies are killing me. My voice is shot. I sound like that one kid in the Brady episode with his voice cracking.
-
How did I not know this was a thing?!
-
@Auspice I don’t have allergies so Peak Week for me is either that stretch between late October to early November or in the spring when the weather shifts from cold to warmer. My lungs hate the weather change.

I guess my asthma just isn't triggered by allergies because I have those same exact windows as you. Warm to cold or cold to warm.
-
I do not have allergies so normally my worst asthma attack of the year comes with the first upper respiratory virus that I catch in the fall (usually in october!).
Unfortunately due to use of outdoor sealant in my bank branch (with little air circulation to help cure it) due to an incompetent contractor that we had to deal with for a couple of weeks it kick started my asthma, and not having proper meds compounded it like whoa.
I feel stupid for not going in sooner, but glad I was able to avoid getting admitted. I have not had the oh shit I'm going to die feeling since I was in my 20s, and I hope I dont have to experience that again any time soon!
-
@mietze I hope you don't either. That's a terrifying feeling!

WWII vet wants to receive 100 cards for his 100th birthday
coworker is going around getting a card signed to send him. I think it's sweet all around.

My kids all passed their test today.
That never happens.

So in the past few days, I've read a few stories (including that one on cheetahs ) about the mistreatments big cats suffer in/around Africa and it has made my heart hurt. So I reached out to my friend who is a charity streamer on Twitch to say 'hey, can your next big event be about this?'
(This guy does 4 big events a year. His goal, on Twitch, is to be 'the biggest charity streamer.' We're RL friends. He's amazing. He keeps a consistent stream schedule. He still keeps his RL job. His summer stream, he raised $17k for Children's Hospital. He has a partnership with Game Stop now, for example. The guy is outgoing, charismatic, and really, truly cares about what he does.)
I had Tweeted this at him since he's at TwitchCon rn. His reply was that he loves the idea and we should talk about it when he gets back. I mentioned I can think of 2 potential charities off the top of my head and can prob find more. Well, other streamers are already weighing in that they love the idea and viewers, even, are jumping in that they wanna see it happen, too.
Like, I'm all for the Extra Life stuff, but..... afaik no one's really done anything big to help these animals yet. If I could help get even a single event for that rolling, I'd be so happy. I love big cats. I love them to the extent that if I wasn't so damn science dumb (I have dyscaulculia so I struggle af when it comes to that shit) I probably would've gone into biology/zoology so I could work with them). So if I can be a catalyst that helps get money into their conservation efforts it will make my day/week/month/year. and the fact that a growing number of other people are into it, too, is all the better.

I know @Rinel has rough days re: kids sometimes and @silverfox had one recently.
So here's an example of a little boy being really awesome.
ETA: as comments pointed out, he set down his bag, which showed he was ready to wait out for a while if need be. He also walked back the way he came, so he walked PAST his home to get there.
Also, the girl's sister explained they live super close to the school. She knows the boy and his family. She just happened to lose track of time that day to pick up her sister and walk her home (these things happen!). It's just a super sweet thing he did.
-
The kids are almost always awesome. Even when they are being awful there is usually a good reason behind it that isn't totally in the kid's control. My students this year are extra awesome. (Maybe because they are younger and thus sweeter but, no matter. )
NGL, my over protective streak wonders why the school let them go home without the assigned supervision. x.x

No kids here.
I honestly cannot remember the last time I saw a child. I saw some teenagers at the library yesterday...?

So I've had a lot of issues with my family over the years (a looooot), but the youngest of my brothers has been trying to have a relationship with me and it's p great.
He's not really social at all, but he texts with me sometimes. Either about the family cats (he'll send me photos of them <3) or about whatever games he's playing (he sent me clips from Untitled Goose Game the other day).
One time our mom texted me separately to say she's never seen him so 'talkative' with someone.
He is a good kid (I say kid but he's 23), we've just never been close since I'm 10 years older than he is. Maybe it just took us both being adults to start connecting in some way. Still, it's been nice.

On the contrary, I think my life would be vastly improved if my communications with most people consisted largely of catpix and Untitled Goose Game.

Haha. I mean, that's all he and I talk about rn (well, he'll text me to ask if I've watched this or that anime but I'm not really an anime person so).
