I did it! I made it through the wedding and reception and all the things!
My dress and shoes fit (not my new underwear but 2/3 ain't bad), my hair worked out (I will die on the banana clip hill plus I found a sun hat to match), my makeup worked out (I managed to not-goth and just look a little pale vs dead).
The estranged daughter and I have a lot of shit to work on, but a lot of information was traded and things discussed and there's definitely progress toward working out said shit that needs woring on. The mother/son dance went great, we danced together and sang 'Wonderwall' and we could hear other people singing with us and it turned into A Moment.
I even gave a toast speech completely off the cuff. I don't feel quite as weird about the in-laws anymore since so many of them made it a point to come introduce themselves and talk to me that there's a Godfather joke in there somewhere. Then we all danced to 'Low' and who can be all standoffish after that, really?
Then, everything at home was as wel left it. I couldn't really ask for a more perfect day.
Everybody who was like 'it'll be great, celebrate your son and his family and just ride the wave' when I bled into the 'RL Peeves' section - you were all right, and I couldn't be happier that you were.

If you're on Twitter please check out the #clearthelist and #clearthelists hashtags--if you have any spare cash you can throw it towards amazon lists that teachers post there. These are things that they will otherwise have to purchase themselves for their classrooms. A lot of them have books up there that are only like $6 or like cases of markers/crayons.
A couple of celebrities are picking up on this and retweeting teacher lists and every little bit helps. It's also eye-opening for some people to realize that some districts don't provide ANYTHING and teachers need to buy every little thing you usually see in the classrooms from posters on the walls to the rugs on the floor.

So I have wanted a pair of Doc Martens since I was in seventh grade, when my parents absolutely would not buy them for me.
And then as an adult, for whatever reason, I just.... never got around to buying them? Until a few months ago when I saw some on clearance on Nordstrom Rack. They came, they didn't fit, and they weren't available in larger sizes. I had to return them. Still no Doc Martens.
Until somehow, by some magic, these were restocked on the Doc Martens site. And I got a coupon for being a new subscriber. And they came in the mail today.

Some days I'll be having a self-esteem thing where I worry about the various ways I measure up and how others must perceive me.
And then I'll walk through the door and my dog is there going OMG IT'S YOU. HI. I HAVE MISSED YOU. YOU ARE THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD AND YOU HAVE BRIGHTENED MY DAY IMMEASURABLY JUST BY EXISTING. ILYSM.
And that helps me get back on track so I can stop thinking stupid thoughts and do something useful instead, like throwing her a ball or wrestling her for five minutes.
She is a gift, and I totally understand dog people now.
