The unbridled joy on Kelly Marie Tran's face at the Oscars. I love her so so so much and Rose Tico is my idol.

A brand new water heater after your tax return allows you to finally, FINALLY replace the 20-year old broken down one you'd been dealing with. No more racing the clock with morning showers!!

You must work for the CW.

I'm sure they're pissed they missed out on the unexpected success of 'My Boyfriend is a Sea Monster' after 'My Boyfriend is a Vampire' (editions 1&2, 'My Boyfriend is a REALLY OLD Vampire') did well, 'My Boyfriend is a Post-Apocalyptic Survivor' did pretty well, and 'My Boyfriend is a Witch' and 'My Boyfriend is an Alien' not so much.

(I'm still convinced they're pissed at MTV for 'My Boyfriend is a Werewolf'.)

ETA: I know these shows have real titles, but since I am reasonably sure at least 80% of the forum knows them by those descriptors alone speaks volumes.

              Oh fucking well.

I love when modern technology provides the best headlines: https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2018/3/7/17092334/amazon-alexa-devices-strange-laughter

I mean, it's ominous, but the headline is great!

Users might piss me off, but at least coworkers entertain me:

Me: "I wish these people could send us full sentences. This email just says 'cannot afford.'"
                    Coworker: "So just three words."
Me: "Cannot is a compound word. One word."
CW: "...is this one of those things where you're fucking with me? Fuck this. I'm Googling it."
                    <Minute later>
CW: "I'm mad. The definition of cannot is "cannot.""

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

I've been researching my family history, which I've discovered I REALLY enjoy doing.

I've discovered some shady shit, you guys.

So my grandpa Buryl was born in 1894. His mother, Pearl, married a dude named Wilson in 1899, five years later, where she was apparently working as a domestic, or working locally as a domestic for someone else. At one point, a fellow named Pearlie was living in their home as a boarder. Wilson was a farmer, so I imagine he was living there as a farmhand. Wilson dies in 1923, and she marries Pearlie in 1924.

Scenario 1: Great-grandma got preggers by Wilson a few years before they actually got married, and when she married Pearlie, he adopted Buryl.

Scenario 2: Great-grandma got preggers by Pearlie way back when, and Wilson married her for any number of possible reasons that are a rabbit hole I'm not going down because it will get way too Inception to handle, and Pearlie was able to properly acknowledge Buryl once he and Pearl married.

Scenario 3: Great-grandma got preggers by neither man, but by someone else entirely, which might tie into the Native American angle that's been passed along as a family legend, and Buryl was later adopted by Pearlie.

"If you stand for nothing Burr, what will you fall for?"

I am just intrigued by a Pearl marrying a Pearlie, that could lead to almost as much confusion as when two friends got married, Christopher and Christine but both went by Chris.

It gets even more wackadoo. Apparently Pearlie's mother Ruby (Pearls, Rubies, ha ha!) took in baby Buryl when he was born, as his is included in the census lists for her household up until he was at least 16. It lends credence to either scenario 2, or scenario 3 and Ruby being extraordinarily kind for whatever reason.

I encountered someone once with a hyphenated surname that I'm not certain how to spell, but was pronounced: Shampoo-Dick.

Susan Sarandon has revealed that Paul Newman once gave her part of his salary. They starred together in the 1998 film Twilight, with Gene Hackman. Sarandon discovered that her male co-stars were getting paid the same as each other - and more than her. Newman said, "Well I'll give you part of mine."

Went into my evaluation this morning with a stack of papers, research, and proof to justify asking for a 15% raise. Never had to use it - Boss offered 15% out of the gate. Obviously we both agreed I was underpaid.

My last name IRL is Shelly. My mom's name is Mary. "lol Frankenstein" all the time, like she's never heard it before.

But worse: my paternal uncle was once married to a woman named Kelly (now divorced). Yes, for about ten years, there was a "Kelly Shelly." Her maiden name was the rather discordant "Wieand" (WEE-and), so I suppose she was SOL either way.
