Dust to Dust (Formerly the nWoD grenade thread)

Flakiness aside, I have lolsy ideas for Mage (turning it more into ACTION than MYSTERY, but still having mystery), and I will volunteer for all staff positions if someone will help me hammer mummy into shape to work on the place. Because Mummy.
-
Isn't Mummy like... wildly unsuited to a MU*? Again going on second hand information, but I'm pretty sure the first time you whip out your "I reach back to the dawn of creation and alter the big bang so that a meteor shower arrives right here to rain down my divine wrath on all who oppose me." power, even the Mages are going to be pointing and laughing.

Willing to help with wiki things, if no one has jumped up to tend that task. Probably better suited to that than anything else, really. Entirely forgot that one.
There are some organizational tricks that are enormously helpful in maintaining consistency, but are an unholy nightmare to set up unless you do them from the start. (As I am finding out on Reno, whee.)

@surreality this would be great tinder for a How-to maybe? I'm interested in your lessons learned, I am sure others will be too.

It could be -- but it's one of those things that is easier to understand when it's seen in action, aside from my 'really shitty as a teacher in every possible way and bad explainer of things' problem and dramatic lack of time.
The short form: if you take a very granular approach, and use category tags wisely, you can cross-reference things in a way that minimizes a major problem a lot of game wikis have with various house rules/interpretations/general game policies/etc., namely, 'where I think something should go is not always where someone else is going to be looking for it'.
Basically, instead of making a huge page of HRs for, say, vampire, which covers how blood bonds work on werewolves and how the feeding code works and everything else under the sun, each of those things gets its own small page. That page gets tagged with its related subjects category-wise, for instance, both of those would get 'vampire' and both would get 'vitae'; when someone does a search for all things vampire or vitae, they'll be able to find them easily on that category page. The former also gets tagged for werewolf and vinculum, and the latter for code, and these things turn up in those category checks as well.
That alone is a huge step forward in making things easier to find when needed, because we don't always know what terms people are going to be looking for, as this tends to be based on why they're looking for it. A werewolf player is going to be looking for the info described above for different reasons than the vampire player, and they may be looking in very different places for the same information.
Further, the information from the short pages can be loaded into others very easily -- a lot of folks do their character pages as a collection of 'mini-pages' and load the content into the main page's framework; it works the same way. You can, essentially, easily make a page that is not just a category for all things vitae, you can have that page load in all the content from the related pages in a neatly indexed form.
The big win: edits remain consistent everywhere that content appears. No more hunting down the dozen pages where a collection of things were all piled together where the rule about XP spends for out-of-clan-disciplines maybe might have been (see above re: where someone might have thought to even put it and people coming from different perspectives/etc., as it applies to people adding content as well as those searching for it), because by updating that one granular, cross-referenced file, it updates every page on which that file is cited/loaded in.
Hopefully that made sense, and if it didn't, it probably is a good example of why I don't tend to write tutorials.

I want to steal @surreality to make a wiki. At best I can do is, sometimes, make a table. Most of the time it breaks.
-
There's some core stuff I still don't really know how to do on setting one up. But organizing one? There, there's ideas, dangit.
-
@surreality
I am really much a fan of using categories and DPL to organize things too. DPL lets you chain categories in place, so you could have, say, all the vampire/character/news all chunk up together in one spot using it, and get nice built-in formatting to boot! -
It's all set up.. My co-admin and I don't know how to make it pretty, at all. And @Rook has informed us that is not his strong point either.
-
I keep telling myself I will start a new game, but I have absolutely no desire to do as such. Guess it's one of those things.

I am going to be playing TinyDictator, but there are some things that I'm going to want to bat around with you once I get the site up, see what you think about them before full pursuit of the various bits.
You should play Tiny Dictator, that is the role you should be playing. I will be around to consult when you wish.
-
So since I can never stay away, is there anything I can help with? I have some experience in this field...
-
Yes. Yes, I want your help. Precisely what I need, I'm not entirely sure, but you're definitely a subject matter expert for the system itself. Please, pretty please, I expect you and I are going to do some little bits of headbutting as I suspect we have dramatically different ...put a word here, I can't think of the right one. Approach? Viewpoints? Opinions? I think it's probably approaches. I'm not worried about it, but I also wanted to make sure you're coming in with the understanding that it was likely to happen. Everyone else I might be working with that I butt heads with, they've mostly worked with me before and they already know it. I don't think I've worked with you. I'm awesome, I just have ...quirks.
Everyone else
This is happening. I have a collection of those who have offered to help, and what those offers were. In the next couple of weeks, I'll be getting things started and get a site up and all of that fun stuff. There is no delay, but I just wanted to remind that I stated above that it would be a few weeks. The reasoning behind that is that I have some Things (yes, Things) in the offline world that have to be stabilized. I want to be sure I'm starting out at 100%, given the stress-load doing something like this comes with. Not that it's all bad stress with the building process, most of it is really exciting.
We have plenty of help now and a really exciting team lineup. I think every base is covered that I was super concerned about, and I've got the background story (replacing 'metaplot') rolling around in my mind. I need to find my stupid Viseo disk.
Generic You Here
I am not going to turn anybody away before they show up and I've talked with them (except for those few people who know better than to show up in the first place), helpwise, but once we've started working together, if somebody isn't someone I think I'm going to be able to work with or whatnot? I'll ask you to excuse yourself from the development process. A request to leave during the development process does not and will not have anything to do with whether or not you're welcome on the game. While I've probably worked with most of you over the years, personality management is definitely part of my job. It's not personal, it's not you, it's just that I generally know pretty quickly whether I will work well with someone or not. -
I might have missed/glossed over it, but is this using the 2nd Edition rulesets or the original stuff?

Update:
What I was waiting on resolving is as resolved as it's going to get for the time being, but everything unstable is mostly stable again. Thus, this thing is getting the green light.
I'll be getting a clean install of Mux up on my site this weekend sometime, and I'll be passing the address around here and then to those that emailed me, as well. We'll get everybody together and the brainstorming / discussion / etc will begin.
-
Poke as needed -- I am kinda in and out with work as ever but I can make a point of being around.
-
Ditto. School, but can make time.
-
Like @EmmahSue, I am willing to consult for any new game. My time is really limited though, due to running my own! But yeah, poke.
