I think today I just decided I had to give up. 26 years of my life have been spent trying to be a good older sister to him. Obviously I wasn't always the best, but no one is when they're younger. I tried to encourage him in extracurriculars. I've tried to help encourage him in jobs. I even, a few years back, helped him get a job at a fast food place a friend of mine managed.
A friend who went above and beyond, himself. He would hang out with my brother. Encourage him. Try to give him the easiest tasks to do. Vouched for him when he would piss off his coworkers.
But I just can't anymore. I can't handle having someone put themselves through the wringer (fucking up jobs because he'd rather sit at home and play games, taking whatever he can get his hands on just for the hopes of a high, etc) and then blame it on me over and over again. He's family, but I've got to acknowledge that there's even a limit to that.
There are. I have a challenging brother, too, though he's doing much better lately. But we're a pair--we either get along great or we're at each other's throats and it can change on a dime, it's so surreal. You're fine. You're doing what you need to do to be okay. The rest is on him.

Today's anger isn't even anger, though. It's a deeply bitter, heart-breaky sort of, "Yep, thought so, was hoping to be wrong for once," disappointment. 
I would take anger over this shit any day of the week.

i'm not even really angry, just tired and it's not even one o'clock because people I have no control over decide things or decided one way or another and now it's all coming to bite me in the ass.

Funny enough (knowing the situation in question), that's what set the whole discussion off. One such video that was done in a tongue-in-cheek fashion (female comedians making the types of comments made about them re: men instead, like 'Can you imagine a male-led comedy?!').

A coworker is waiting for the elevator in his building this morning when its doors open and this shiba dog comes flying out and bites him on the foot, through the jeans, breaking the skin.
The woman who owns the dog yells at him denying the dog bit him (despite, y'know, the blood and actual bite on his foot, which he took pictures of since just in case); her daughter comes out of her apartment and yells at him some more ('why do you hate dogs?!'). Oh, and it's apparently the second time there's been a bite incident with that one.
People like that are giving all pet owners a bad name.
@Arkandel: I'm not going to lie, my dog has bitten another dog. He's got a high prey drive and little fluffbutts look like the rabbits he was trained to chase on the track. But I took responsibility for it, apologized to the owner, made sure they had my contact info, and paid all the related vet bills - in fact, I'm still paying for them. But the fact that I owned up and took responsibility for my dog made the other dog's owner much more willing to work with me, and has been very kind about when I have needed to make a smaller payment due to financial needs.
If you're not willing to take responsibility for your dog's bad behavior, you shouldn't have a dog.

@Cupcake That's what I mean. One of my dogs is just...messed up - she's lovely with people including kids (my niece and her friends used to basically treat her like a doll when she was a puppy, carrying her around everywhere and she loved it). Even bigger dogs are fine in her books, she gets along with them famously.
Any fluffy cute thing though (she's a fluffy cute thing herself) just puts her in a white hot rage if they try to sniff her butt too long, or seem reserved about her sniffing their butt or... anything. She hasn't bitten any dogs but I've no doubt she would if she was allowed so quite often I just pick her up if there are other fluffballs around or just allow her no possibility of contact with them.
Dogs don't need to be perfect but we do, else it's on us. We can't expect everyone to love them, and we damn well can't expect them to get bitten and shrug it off.
The whole banning of a breed because they are aggressive is BS. Every decade or so it's a new breed that's bad. No. It's people who are bad.
And sometimes mistakes just happen. Dogs have big, sharp pointy teeth for a reason!

Not unless you can establish that the parents could have reasonably foreseen that their kid would have caused damage, and that their failure to restrain that child proximately caused the same.
There's reasonable arguments for both sides. I usually get ticked off when parents dump off their spawn into playgrounds with little or no supervision and one of those mouth-breathers runs into my toddler because they are too inbred of fucking stupid to not dash around like a maniac when there's little children about.
If it takes a village to raise a child, I have no problems with being the old fuck with a switch that beats the idiot children.
I have two boys. Both teenagers now. My oldest plays Pokemon GO, and as soon as we pick out a phone for my youngest, he will too. I have ZERO qualms about grabbing either by the shoulder and/or back of the neck and/or arm and yanking them backwards because they're about to do something stupid in the name of pixelated creatures. Yes, we go on Pokewalks. Yes, sometimes that takes us to places where families/younger children can be found. No, that does not given them license to be idiots/douches to the little kids so they can catch a Krabby. The oldest in particular will get so focused on his phone that he'll forget to look at where he's going. So we now have a deal. He either watches where he's going or I will give his phone to his younger brother until he can show that he can be responsible with the app. That means his younger brother would immediately inherit all the Pokemon and items that he's worked hard to collect. So... he watches where the Hell he's going.
