Here's my $5.
Sorry not enough. The Federal government is going to need about $10500 from each of us.
Would you prefer the installment plan or debtors prison?(Man, when we get the briefest hint of "Return To WORA" it comes crashing back in waves, doesn't it.)
-
And we still don't have an ignore function.
-
The "ignore" function I use is "if the name and icon at the left is someone who's a gibbering idiot, skip to the next one".
-
Tax refunds are in part design, but also done by choice. If you do your exemptions correctly, you won't have a refund but will instead 0 out or owe very little. But no, people love a refund.
-
Put in two years at a job. A good employee. Even got a damned Employee Excellence award. Live on-site (at their request). Be a good tenant. Find a better job and put in my two weeks notice, even staying on a little longer so they're not screwed over while a co-worker is on vacation. Ask if I can stay until the end of the month at my apartment and get pro-rated for the last 10 days. They say sure, that's great. They owe me a last paycheck, vacation pay, and my security deposit. Nice, yeah?
No, not nice. Get a /text/ (can't even call me to be dicks) today saying that I need to pay the pro-rate amount by /tomorrow/ (less than 24 hours notice). The amount I owe is less than 1/4 of what they owe /me/. Except they want their money in under 24 hours, where as they won't give me what they owe me for 4-6 weeks (nor will they subtract what I owe from the amount.
I am angry. A perfect example of why I am leaving this company in the first place. And with all of the things I have let slide but taken it upon myself to document, they're about to have a hard time.
(On an aside, the new job is wonderful and I love it.)

@Thisnameistaken
That is so many levels of bullshit, I don't think there's a shovel big enough to handle that(Omg yay new job!)

Bury them.In litigation.
They probably need to give you notice to vacate. And then start eviction proceedings thereafter.
If you're leaving in 10 days, business acumen suggests leaving the situation alone, and deducting your pro-rated amount from the paycheck and/or security deposit.
But, hey, who am I to tell some M.B.A. from Fraggle Rock U. how to do their job? (A person with two graduate degrees that taught useful knowledge, that's who.)

It's easy. Everyone pays the same amount. Sounds fair to me.
The purpose of taxes is to pay for government programs. Those programs do not distribute benefits equally by purpose or design. Fair tax is only fair if you haven't an education or understanding of basic capitalist principles.
Obviously with the head tax, there will be those who cannot pay their fair share. They could be exempted on condition they give up the right to decide on how that money is spent. So instead of a head tax, we'll change it to a poll tax. It's going to put a much larger burden on the rest of us though, perhaps closer to $20000 a year. But that sounds like a fair exchange. I could go with that.

These peeves threads are massive. I just want my "fair share" of peeves.

Look up how much each income bracket/population chunk pays into the federal tax system. It gives some interesting insight into the idea that everyone is paying, and the rich are definitely paying a lot more, though perhaps not a true fair share. Though determining a fair share is difficult.
It may very well be that the poor pay less because they earn less than their exemption, and actually receive income from our tax system in the form of a tax refund.
Tax refunds are silly.
Once upon a time they let me not choose between bread and rent, and later after I qualified a larger one meant I could stay in touch with my son and not have him suddenly whisked off to Germany, so...debatable. On the other hand, I'm probably a little too close to the topic, so...grain of salt in regards to my thoughts on it, haha.

That... sounds suspiciously like you're suggesting depriving the poor of the right to vote. Maybe not the literal vote but a whole lot in terms of having a say.
Do I need to explain why this is a bad idea?
-
Lol this is like literal step by step instructions of how to disenfranchise the poor.

Pfft, oh yeah. So much this. If you absolutely positively need a bunch of competent, discreet people to help you get away with committing a crime then never mention it again, MSB is your community.

Shhhhh, we're supposed to use code language after this, @Arkandel.
