      TV show memes.

God fucking dammit, it's THE NEXT DAY. I'm already bombarded on web sites and social media with image memes about last night's The Walking Dead and Westworld's episodes which are impossible to avoid because by the time I realise I'm not supposed to be reading them I've already read them.

I get it if it's been half a week but it's not even twenty four hours. 😞

Anxiety. Medication side effects. I'm on something that is working amazingly well, except that it has amped up my anxiety to the point that I am on the edge between functioning and not. Constantly. It's so bad. I just don't know if this is worse than what it is treating or not. It's a toss up I think.

@Sunny Hopefully the one will end the other, and then you can get away from the side effects. Anxiety is terrible. It's why I stepped away from MU*ing.

So I am the queen of unrequited crushes with a fine tradition of them going back all the way to kindergarden. After my last boyfriend many many moons ago, I decided to put those feelings in a box and tuck them away, but in recent years, such feelings have reared their ugly head once more. It's like seeing an old friend, except you know that old friend is going to get very drunk, sleep on your couch, and pee in the sink because they're so drunk/hung-over at 4AM that they don't realize what they're doing and then expect you to buy breakfast.

I think the difference between a celebrity crush and a real-person-you-know crush are important as with the former, there's no chance in hell and you know it going in, whereas with the latter, most of the time there is the chance of possibility. Which in its way, is so much worse.

4 day jury trial. Prosecution case has completely gone to shit but the judge rules against us on every motion. Stayed late at work every night this week writing motions and typing pages and pages of transcripts because I'm faster than getting it from the court. Judge wants us back an hour before opening yesterday and today so we can argue motions. I have literally lost count of how many motions to dismiss we've filed in the last three days (pro tip: if you forget to have your victim point at my dude and say that guy ... if you destroy a bunch of physical evidence... if you provide 600 pages of discovery on day 2 of trial ... well, never mind, I guess. And that chain of custody receipt doesn't matter either, just let it all in!) and the shitshow just keeps going on ...

... meanwhile while I am writing one of these motions last night I get an email from my dad that somehow my apartment was flooded while I was not there. I shriek WHAT and then get back to work because who has time for details.

I get home at about 9:15 last night to discover that yes, my apartment is flooded. But not my apartment so much as just my bedroom. My cat has been locked in my formerly cat free guest room (for allergic people who want to sleep here without dying) for hours. My stuff is all over the living room because workmen moved it all out of the flood zone. The only actual casualties so far appear to have been a phone charger, my hardback Hamilton book, and a set of Tarot cards I bought as a RP aid for Arx (I swear this made sense at the time).

The flooding appears to have been caused by the negligence of a person who shall remain nameless but I will be clear here that it was NOT ME.

All my rp obligations are in the shitter and my co GM had to mainline instant coffee to run my npc last night. Also, I'm pretty sure that the jury is going to convict.

                  Waah.

You probably don't need any advice, but I've handled a couple of these cases recently. I pray you don't have USAA.

                              @Ganymede I have Allstate??

Update on damage: Apparently they have to cut out the dry wall, dry everything, re sheet rock, paint, and then pull up carpet pad that is glued to the concrete foundation.

I do not know what Allstate is going to feel about this claim, but I may cry anyway. Meanwhile, I think I am going to have to cancel or severely modify my friends' visit next week and I was really looking forward to seeing them again, it's been more than a year.

                                Not bad.

Remember: you have to give the insurance company the chance to review the damage and approve of the work to be done before it's done; you otherwise jeopardize coverage. Also, the insurance company may have two different adjusters -- one to handle the real property, the other to handle the personal property -- so be sure that both come before you make changes or dispose of anything.

@Ganymede It looks like most of my personal property is safe, but thanks for the advice -- I'm not entirely sure that my parents have not already started doing things to the property (I'm still in trial this morning) but I'll see what I can do to stop the bus.

Some of my anxiety has been assuaged. The visit 'home' isn't bad so far, but it's not good either.

My mother very clearly missed me. She made me a 'care package' that was waiting in the room I was staying in (snack foods I'm fond of). Brought me tea this morning. Things are very good with her.

My father began things with a spiel about how glad he is that I'm wearing my hair properly for a woman (rather than short and dyed).

My brother is... already problematic. He has tried to get me to buy weed for 'us.' Non-stop getting in the door last night he wanted to talk about weed, kratom, or video games, no matter how many times I said "I'm exhausted, can we talk tomorrow instead?" until he finally went outside and loudly sobbed.

He's severely manic, but will not see a professional. He has himself convinced that he's treating it with weed. Thankfully, he will not be in Hilton Head with us next week, so I only have to deal with him for a couple days at the start and a couple days at the end.

Saying the quiet parts out loud since 1996.

@Ganymede Happily, everything that my parents had done was done while talking to our insurance agent on the phone and apparently they are getting assurances that this is substantially likely to be covered unless the investigator decides this was groundwater (common enemy doctrine I haven't studied you since law school!). This isn't anger so much as relief.

I'm not sure why the insurance agents were talking to my parents without me but since I was in trial I do not care.
