@aria Dinosaur kale is ok, especially younger leaves. I absolutely hate kale but I grew lacinato for salads before it was something you could buy in grocery stores; you can tear it up and add it raw as part of a mixed green salad, or cooked as a decent green, especially with garlic, bacon, etc.

The rest of the stuff is just sulfury tough crap.

This sounds like a trap being laid to convince me kale is edible. Like the green juice with a bit of fruit mixed in to make me think that it might be palatable,and that I should try to do a healthy. But no, that still tasted like rancid, sulfuric cardboard and apparently I don't get credit from the nutritionist for 'trying it like a super responsible and mature grown-up should' and only making it through half the bottle.

It's not bad dehydrated with some seasoning of your choice. Very, very brittle though. No satisfying crunch.

I wanted to like kale, but no, that's not happening. Thankfully, I love almost every other cabbage cultivar (I'm about to roast some Brussels sprouts) so I can get away with it.

I don't think I can eat an entire serving of kale by itself, but there's a bagged salad mix I love that has kale in it. I think it helps that it's mixed in with other veggies and yummy dressing.

I like kale chips! And I like some kinds of kale in soups (I know a recipe for a yummy lactino/dinosaur kale, lemon, and orzo soup that I love!). I also like it from someone's garden after the first frost too. Otherwise there are other greens (mustard, turnip, collared) that I prefer as veggies).

I've never had it a smoothie but that sounds gross to me. Hopefully it's better than what I imagine.

That was me when someone insisted I try their 'super awesome kale salad that's so totally different, honest! (ETA: I mean literally I did the cat thing reflexively. I felt so bad. But it was at a Cracker Barrel, so. Not as guilty as I may have.)

I actually love broccoli rabe and can deal with dandelion greens (which tend toward super bitter for anyone not familiar), but whatever kind of kale they put in that salad magically turned me into a three year old who would not under any circumstances let that spoon-plane come in for a landing.

Kale is fine, for example, braised, or in stews. As in the cuisines of people who have been eating kale forever, not because it's healthy. It's fine.

@peasoupling I can see this being a huge factor, yeah. I'm sure it has to be better cooked. The raw chopped kind in that salad -- which was otherwise a 'sweet' salad with cranberries and walnuts and some kind of sweet dressing and other weirdness -- made it taste like someone had literally sprinkled wet dirt into a defenseless fruit cup.

Same. I've tried to stop using it but "work, bitch" and "Imma cut a bitch" will always make me smile a lil.
