Hey, it's the New Years. Anyone got some fitness going for resolutions? Fitbit friends? I'm badunicorn I'm pretty sure.

Fun? What is this fun thou speakest of?

I'll start. The good - Every day of the new year I've made my step goal, 20 flights of stairs and been under 1200 calories (which is still higher than I want to be). So yay.

The suck parts - I can't seem to make my protein goal, I haven't been to the gym proper because I have an abcessed tooth and that's apparently a no no. Something something death blah blah. Bloglates has some great at home workouts but sick. So soon.

Goals? This flat white girl ass has got to do something. That something means get rounder. I'd like to lose 20 or maybe 30 pounds to finally hit under 130. I want to be fit enough to get a boob job and a tummy tuck. I think a half marathon would be amazing to accomplish considering my asthma and just being fat. I'd also love to take pole dancing classes. Also, once I'm well I'm going to up my steps to cover at least 5 miles. By the end of the year I hope to be hitting 20k a day.

Fun? What is this fun thou speakest of?

I'm biking back and forth to work (inclement weather excepting) and cutting down my snacking to help keep the calorie count lower. If my knees hold up, I may look at joining a gym. πŸ™‚

Back at the gym after the holidays. They had a pretty good personal training sessions package I'm taking advantage of, too, to work on form and possibly hit deadlifts again - which I'm always worried about since decades of bad sitting posture and desk-jockey work have done bad things to my lower back.

But man, I'd love to get away with deadlifts. That'd be awesome.

I'm Asian, so you ain't got nothing on the flat-ass problem.

That said, squats, kettlebell swings, and deadlifts are going to be your friends. That's a good way to target your glutes, as well as getting a killer sweat up if you pound hard enough.

                Double-posting.

Deadlifts blow, but there's ways to hit the small back without them. Standing shrugs with a weighted barbell are becoming more challenging than deadlifts for me, even Romanian deadlifts. Hell, standing shoulder presses do the same. Basically, do your shit standing up, and you'll start to feel it in the small of your back, especially bent-over rows.

I got a Fitbit for Christmas. Totally love it to pieces.

Good: I've lost about ten pounds since vacation a few weeks ago.

Bad: The weight loss was mostly due to being epically ill with that upper respiratory plague that's going around.

Not a healthy way to start things off, but I'm treating it like a kickstart toward getting back into shape. Actually starting to feel like a person again, and like I don't need to be hooked up to my inhaler and nebulizer anymore, so I'm looking forward to getting out and about, inclement weather be damned.

My poor dog has gotten out of shape, too, so I'm looking forward to taking him out for walks and runs and new tricks.

I'm enough overweight at this point that I could stand to lose about 100lbs. Which I know won't happen overnight, do I would really just like to take a chunk of that off by September (my birthday!). Right now 30lbs is the first goal, and I'll see what happens at that point >>

I'm not totally sure how to add people to Fitbit yet, (or really what/where my username is, tbh), but I'd love to have some fitbit motivation friends, or to help others, so if you want me to add you, send me a message or whatever =D

Also here to proclaim my love for my Fitbit and put my link in if people want to add me. Always looking for more Challenges.

I'm a data obsessive (I work in fraud investigation IRL), so this thing is perfect for me. It's easy to quantify stuff like, "I should do 1,000 more steps a day if I have this many Cheetos," instead of stressing about exactly what kind of exercises I should be doing at the gym or whatever.

As a blog post about being inspired by a Fitbit to get better it's actually ... well, inspirational, but goddammit that person ended up walking nine hours a day ?

Now I feel like a filthy casual.

I'm starting going to the weight room/recc room at the college on the days that I work past 4 (three to four days a week) since it isn't open to general students until 4pm. I started my first attempt Monday, I'm debating going for round two tonight but I've a] a lot of homework, b] a midterm tomorrow, and c] my legs fucking hurt and I'm a cry baby.

Still I could probably do ten minutes on one of the devil machines and then go back to working on my schoolwork. Blerg. I'm not trying for anything particularly intense right now, just working on getting myself trained to /do exercise/ on a regular basis. I know I need to work up to 45-60 minutes of exercise, but that's going to take me a little bit.

                                  I don't have a fitbit, I feel left out. :<

@Cobaltasaurus There are step tracker apps for your phone, though I have zero experience with the ones out there. My boss uses one, but I can't recall the name offhand, mainly because she talks about it in relation to complaining about how it eats her battery, not it working awesomely.

@Cobaltasaurus That hurt is a good thing. It means your body is gonna kick into overtime to reshape itself to accommodate what you want to! Don't stop! Also, you burn more calories doing nothing as your body works overtime to make the change happen. Enjoy it while it lasts!

I'll never own a fitbit, because I'm one of those people who need to control absolutely every aspect of my life to even remotely get my metabolism to /let/ me assume any other shape than 'pear'.

So a fitbit is just going to annoy me and be mean to me for no good reason.

The first week (or two days after Leg Day) are owie. It gets easier after that. πŸ™‚

Grab one if you can afford it! Gamifying fitness works for many people since having an incentive to get off the couch and do things is a resource, and the damn thing runs out so fast. Anything helps - for me Ingress was a big deal too, and it's free.

If you don't want a Fitbit you could always get Runkeeper or any other number of free apps though. They essentially all do the same thing, keep track of how far you walk, it's just that Fitbit is popular enough to pin your 'scores' against your friends'. @Luna keeps me honest, for instance. πŸ™‚

I have a jawbone up2. I liked the fit better than the Fitbit and I don't like clipons and I really like the jawbone app.

I too am back in the saddle after being very ill for about a year. My goal isn't a weight one per se, but I have lost a lot of muscle and fitness basically and my goal is to do a local sprint level triathlon in August now that I have the medical all clear.
