Texas really fucking hates unemployed and disabled people without kids. Jesus H. Christ, you'd think I was trying to run around and take tax dollars then cackle while I buy some fucking rice and beans for the month.

Well if you could stop with the cackling at least...
-
She's not cackling, that's cavitation caused by her shadowless Mantis Shrimp punches.
There should be a service that tries to match up people who need to partner up with other people for child care, house maintenance, pet care, housing needs.
-
Needing to lose weight and my doctor's wholly sensible advice of cutting back on carbs, especially after 6 PM.
It's gonna be a hungry summer....
-
Iced tea! It has caffeine which reduces appetite.

@Sunny Yes! Agreed but people with double incomes should be handled differently. My mom never left my dad because she was scared to be broke. Stay at home mom forever. Now she says they're too old. They still have a fucked up codependent relationship of hate but whatever.
@silentsophia I think that's fucked up in the extreme. People aren't more valuable because they had a kid.
@The-Tree-of-Woe Look into keto. Crushes your hunger into oblivion. Yeah the first few days are rough but then it's amazing.
My peeve of the minute is the universe. It's super out to get me tonight. At least my hair isn't frizzy yet so there's that.
-
@Luna
My hair is totally frizzing out of control, and it doesn't usually. The wavy is now crazy-curly, in the worst of ways. Here's hoping that I've distracted the fickle Frizz-god, Humidity, and it won't bother you tonight.Peeve: Going part time because I don't want full time hours at the day job (have other work now), and ending up with more hours than I ever had when full time, when i used to beg for overtime. What gives? Now I can't get /anything/ done. Definitely one of those things where I don't want to turn them down for hours, because I'm sure the second I do, they'll just stop scheduling me (another peeve)... but jeepers.
Also, being allegedly not-qualified for basically all of the jobs I can find in the area, that aren't retail. What kind of a receptionist job needs a bachelor's degree to, quite literally according to the listing, "Sort mail and answer phones". Buh.
-
@Luna Well, tell that to Texas. Apparently it's hard as hell to get food stamps. I can't get medicaid unless I have a kid. The cash aid/TANF is out to anyone without kids, especially kids under 18. So basically, you ain't shit until you reproduce.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely believe it's vital to help parents rear their chitlins. But it sucks ass to do so by excluding childless people.
-
@thebird I got some Paul Mitchell oil bullshit and it's awesome along with Livingproof Frizz fighter something something spray. Marjuca oil? I'll go look if you're curious. And I went from blonde to platinum to more platinum (the damn blue would NOT come out so pile on the bleach) and back to my natural. So this shit is friiiiiied.
@silentsophia Don't feel too left out. I've literally never met anyone who's gotten TANF. I was turned down for food stamps with a kid when my ex left me. Because I had help with bills it counted as income. So, I don't even understand their criteria. It was kinda fucked up. I wish you could get help!
-
Because this is the peeve thread and not the "Jesus God, I want to tear down the fucking Confederate flag and and its flagpole from South Carolina's 'Confederate War Memorial' and make Lindsey Graham and Nikki Haley recreate the 'ass to ass' scene from Requiem for a Dream with it" thread, I'll just say that I wish I didn't ruin cooking good food by eating too much of it. Especially the last bit, where I chomped down on a nearly whole Thai pepper.
-
@silentsophia Hun, as a single mother of two kids, who works less than 30 hours a week... I -still- can't get TANF or cash aid. It just straight up denies my application.
-
@Miss-Demeanor And that's what makes this whole thing especially shameful. They stick 'for families on it' then deny it to even families. It's baffling.
-
Its because they're trying to phase out pretty much all free government aid that they possibly can. They've started by making the standards crazy... the next step will be to start removing the 'unnecessary' programs. You know, the ones that no longer have that many people utilizing them. >.>
-
@Miss-Demeanor Sounds like it. Hooray Texas. I even applied for the indigent adult health care and the lady on the phone screamed at me. That was fun.
-
Its not just Texas. I live in Florida and had this happen. And here, both my kids AND myself are on the free healthcare.
-
@Miss-Demeanor Woo, the south. Sadly, I can't get free healthcare.
-
I only barely qualify myself. The kids get it simply because they've deemed I don't make enough for a three person household. That wouldn't work for me if I didn't fit into a loophole.
-
That's pretty much every state. If you don't have kids, then too bad, your tax dollars aren't for you, they're for the 'unfortunate' woman who hasn't worked a day in the last fifteen years and has nine kids with four different dudes, and another one on the way because her benefits were about to run about so time to start the cycle all over again...
Yes, people legitimately need some of these things, and the programs are good, but there is so much abuse of this system that doesn't get -counted- as abuse of the system (because they follow all the rules, in theory) and that hurts everyone.
It's why I hate it when people say 'welfare abuse is practically non-existant'. Yes, it is existant, it's just gaming the spirit of the rules, rather than the letter of the rules. That kind of shit should not be rewarded. If you can't support child #10 and have been on welfare for fifteen years, then the appropriate state action is not to keep paying you, but to step in and consider placement for the children to increase quality of life.
I don't care how much people scream about 'what about the children' or separating families. Those children are learning extremely poor social mores, and will carry those things on. Fuck that. I would rather see ten responsible citizens who got taken from their mother than ten irresponsible citizens who learned to be that from their mother.

Unfortunately, there's nothing anybody can do to stop people from having kids aside from attempting to educate potential parents.

Well, aside from assuring living wages, housing, and health care, having decent public transportation, funding public schools rather than lowering standards for teachers and funneling money away to private (and frequently religious) schools, stop treating birth control as a sign of moral depravity, and a whole bunch of other things that in the long run would do more to "grow the economy" than the latest round of corporate welfare provisions.
