Someone make a damn CofD/Storytelling 2 game worth playing, kthx
-
Seriously guys. It has been nearly a year since Hitler told you the code is out there! I know of at least 2 coders on MSB personally who can help a complete idiot (me) get a game up and going (@Thenomain and @Cobaltasaurus). I know of a handful of people who will almost always help and consult (@Coin first among them). And yet, let's see what is out there.
- Echoes in time - Invite only, possibly forever. Also has the worst bits of 1E as holdovers
- Reboot for Kingsmouth - This may or may not happen, but no one with a day job can actually manage such a game
- Reno - Maybe they will get some traction, maybe not
- Bump in the Night - I can't play a cool guy vampire there, so what's the point
- Dust to Dust - This could be the one, but I think @sunny is lost in Kushiel's whatsit
- @RDC's hypothetical New Orleans based game I just heard of? Pass.
- That game that ripped off Eldritch's theme material word for word? Pass.
- @ES's mage game? Probably going to be dope, but again, weird hybrid stuff. Also not close to opening due to a lack of mage
So what is a comMUnity to do? Are we just gonna sit around with our hands down our pants? Is anything else in development, and if not, why the fuck not?
-
I have thought about it. But then honestly I look at some of the hyper entitled and just not mannerly behavior that's endemic in our community right now and I wonder why in the fuck should I only to have people scream and complain. As they did/do about every game ever.
I care about the product, I care about the community. And "good" is relative. What I would want to run is a single sphere, prp friendly but also staff run storylines, no alts game where the setting is very important.
I don't think that is especially wanted, given the bitching that usually happens. And if I was developing something I wouldn't want it out until I was ready, for people to scream about while it's still very much in development.
Given how games in development are torn apart by people who don't know what's going on even before they make it live these days, I'm not surprised at the silence.
-
After having help set up BITN, I'm here to help. I don't know a ton, but I can handle some things. Configuring your bboard, your com channels, creating a map, all that shiz. Like @tragedyjones and @Thenomain, I'm of the belief that more=better. That if we get more CofD MUs open, players can go where they like to play, and we're all better off.
So, if anyone is interested in starting a new game and would like some consultation and guidance, give me a shout. I do NOT want to help desc your grid! But I can @dig a grid!
-
Yeah, I'm definitely very slow. Slow slow slow.

Doesn't matter how slow you go as long as you don't stop

I want to make a game and I have a concept in mind, but I don't want to do it over telnet. So most likely either I need to find the time and energy to code it or it'll stay in my head. Neither of those things is unacceptable.

If the full Changeling 2.0 rules ever, ever come out, and I like them as much as I think I will, I would be open to trying something, although I suspect its appeal would be limited.
-
@Pyrephox I know the appeal for the game I am building right now will be limited, but you know what? I'm still gonna build it and just hope that others enjoy it as much as I hope to.

Good! More people should do that - honestly, I'd rather see a bunch of smaller, healthy, and unique games than a few large games that try to appeal to everyone ever.
-
@Lithium You do you!

You are welcome to the darkwater DB, and any code that is salvageable when/if it comes to pass.
that being said...
I have never neither time nor inclination to be involved in a CofD game. All my homework is coding. All the time. Coding. I swap between C, Java, and SQL. I really don't want to throw mux code for /CofD/ into the mix. If I were to lose my mind and run another game it'd be an easy system like Risus: the Anything, or FAE.
-
@Cobaltasaurus Thank you! I really appreciate that offer, and have infinite sympathy for being filled with code-overload. I wish I liked Fate better. I don't like the Storyteller system all that much (although CoD is so much better than nWoD, which was much better in my mind than oWoD), but I just...I cannot be inspired by Fate or its derivatives. BAH.

@tragedyjones That someone could be you even. As far as the Kingsmouth reboot, that's basically never going to happen.

I'll respond to this no later than the first of March.
-
@Alzie You did see the part where @tragedyjones is making a game, called Bump in the Night (BITN), which is CofD, and will be opening in a week?
-
@skew That was the point.
-
@Alzie What was your point? TJ started this post saying he can't play the way he wants to play in BITN, and while I know he said he can't play a cool vampire, there is also the reality that you can never have the same experience as a player when you are also the head/owner/whatever of a game.
He's asking for other games, and offering suggestions and help getting there.
-
@skew @tragedyjones said he wanted someone to make a Storytelling/CofD game worth playing. I told him that someone could even be him. Referencing his upcoming game. I'm not sure how that was misinterpreted.
-
@Alzie Oh! Sorry. I read it as a snide comment. That since you knew he was doing just what he suggested, you were repeating it back to him, to be a jerk. Apologies for misreading!
-
I think he's looking for vampire specifically -- which won't be an option on the one he's running, from the original list.
