I don’t think anyone was being very serious about this being an actual goal.

Recognized and agreed, but it feels like the kind of joke that only gets made by people who believe they would never be subject to it. I don't know how Aria feels, but that can get under my skin.

I'm not, like, offended or anything. Not even close. I totally get where that mindset comes from and occasionally mutter things not entirely dissimilar under my breath as vehement reactions to things (usually sexual violence and/or child abuse).

More of a "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey guys, maybe let's not say things accidentally in support of policies enacted by actual literal Nazis and I don't mean that in the Godwin's law kinda way."

      Seriously.

I can fit my wallet and my phone in one pocket.

eShakti. They'll customize to your measurements or make style adjustments for $10 and almost every one of their dresses comes with pockets by default.

      You're welcome.

That moment of heart-stopping panic when you accidentally like an old picture of someone. Counts double when you don't want them to know you were checking their profile.

Thanks a lot, random nightmare involving my ex-boyfriend that made me wonder what that asshole might be doing.

Since I had a coupon, I decided to order from the barbecue joint that used to be around the corner from the apartment where @insomniac7809 and I first lived.

We've since moved and so have they, but one thing that has not changed at all is their website. Probably since, like, 1998. Ohh, sure, they've updated the prices and added the new Tex-Mex items they have available but....

There's still dancing pig sprites. And little fire animations. And their catering contact is listed as "electronic mail" with an AOL.com email address. I didn't even know AOL still existed.

It is glorious and perfect and amazing and we love it.

Since I know other people have been looking for frames for kitty pics:

      https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07TQKKVW8?psc=1&smid=A23OBUHX95RPOM&ref_=chk_typ_imgToDp

10"x12" with a mat intended to fit a 6"x9" picture, which is what mine so far have measured as. Comes in a multi-pack of three, which is exactly perfect for the number I ordered for myself.

...Which is less than the number I've purchased for other people as gifts today. >.>

ETA: In case you miss it, the page has a WARNING about how the frame is meant to fit a 10"x12" picture with a mat opening of 6"x9". Apparently people have complained about the fact that if you have a 6"x9" picture, you need to tape it to the back of the mat? I'm not sure why these people don't understand how a fucking mat works, but now you've also been warned by me and Amazon. If you want this to fit a kitty picture, you're gonna need some tape. Preferably masking tape, as that is less likely to fuck up your picture. If you don't wanna use tape, don't buy this.

When you buy one of those handy pre-portioned bags of broccoli and cauliflower for that bean salad you like to make, get it home, and notice it expired a month before you bought the goddamn thing.

      1. Ew.

      2. Definitely go back to the store and bitch about that. I've done that before with milk that went sour several days before the printed expiration date because that told me that their food storage practices - whether in shipping or in store - were unsafe and could make people super sick.

@mietze So I know that we don't really know each other or anything but....

Pretty much my entire family in Ohio got COVID just a few short months after losing my aunt unexpectedly. Adults, teenagers, even the kiddos -- including the 18 month old. It was terrible and frightening and I'm sorry you're going through this.

However, our elderly dog fell down our stairs twice yesterday, so I've gone and scheduled physical therapy for him.

It's official. I have turned into my mother, the crazy dog lady.

@derp Look, man. At one point I had a friend from these games cover a pretty expensive emergency vet bill and only let me pay, like... two-thirds? three-quarters? something like that back.

I've also helped people on these boards and these games pay for groceries and rent and broken computers and gas bills and moving expenses before.

Shit happens. Sometimes it's for stupid reasons, sometimes it's for things beyond our control, sometimes it's because we messed up. But sooner or later it happens to everyone, and I like to think we all end up even-steven eventually.

I no longer give a shit about Jared Leto after his behavior on the set of Suicide Squad, and will not watch his movies.

I no longer give a shit because of all of the rape allegations.

Especially considering how many of them relate to underage girls specifically.

Like, the level of anger that washes over me when that man's face comes on screen is entirely reasonable. It is also profoundly unhealthy given that there is not a damned thing I can do about his continued wealth and fame.

      @betternow

      https://www.hercampus.com/culture/claims-about-jared-leto-preying-underage-women-have-resurfaced-yet-again-these/

Basically, women have been accusing Jared Leto of this shit for 20-ish years now and despite the fact that claims keep popping up from various sources again and again and again, they largely get ignored as "rumors" like they did with Cosby and probably will continue to be ignored until one of these sources goes on record with a court of law somewhere.

I... am not sure what to say. That article in particular claims James Gunn responded to a tweet, but clicking on it says "page does not exist". That website is owned by a Gen Z media influencer company. So I am again...I want to believe women without question, but I'd like to see the actual accounts/accusations on their actual social media rather than things "resposted" on sites I can't determine the credibility of. If there is that much chatter about it though, it is likely true and that makes me so fucking sad. I can't like things anymore. They will always disappoint me.

I shall now go put Stanley Tucci and Dolly Parton inside bubble wrap for protection because I swear to God if they get outted as horrible people somehow, I am gonna just give up on the universe.

Yeah, that's the thing. I would much prefer these accusations be reported in credible sources, with criminal investigations and legal actions attached, for a large number of reasons.

But this isn't the same single account popping up here and there and maybe under this thing every few years when people do a Wayback Machine search or something. It's very similar accusations, made by a number of people, consistently, over several decades. So I think it's pretty safe to say they're likely true. Especially because patterns like this being known in certain circles and no one doing anything about them for years is usually the "backstory" when these people finally do get their ass dragged into the light and/or court, which is what I'm really hoping happens.

It also probably won't because most victims don't come forward when it's just some random asshole and the usual trauma of the "justice" system they're dealing with. Nevermind when there's millions of dollars, a small army of lawyers, and a PR firm screaming "libel" in their face.

    • RE: 2022: A New Year, New Dead Celebrities

I saw his stand up routine once. As a little kid -- Full House had just ended, so I think I was barely 11? -- who definitely should not have been seeing his comedy routine at that age.

My best friend's mom bought tickets to this tiny little comedy club in New Jersey where he was performing. We only knew him from Full House and AFHV, so had no idea how absolutely raunchy his routine was. We were the only children there and about fifteen minutes in, her mom made us go sit out in the hallway for the rest of the night, where the bartender kept bringing us Shirley Temples until the show was over.

So I sort of saw his stand up routine and most of my memories of the evening center around finally learning what "the C word!!" was and being left unattended in a bar. Lil' bit of a tone shift from Danny Tanner.

      Personally, I love L5R. Love.

It was, in fact, the first TT game I ever played back when I was a little baby gamer toddling around after the comic store nerds like a little gosling. I still love it, even if I occasionally look at some of the <insert other rant here> nonsense John Wick sold me on when I was 15 and impressionable.

With that said, I absolutely loathe the Fantasy Flight symbol dice thing. I've dealt with it in their Star Wars game and not only does it grind game-play to a frustratingly slow halt while you try to figure out what you actually rolled, it tends to result in... odd outcomes. I like the idea in theory, but in practice things can get really wonky really fast. Having the dice rolls coded would likely fix the former issue; I'm honestly not sure how to address the latter one without a fairly substantial overhaul of the system.
