I don't know who decided that work should start in the mornings, but that person is shit and I hate them.

RE: The Work Thread
@Aria said in The Work Thread:
I have six competing priorities all due for the end of this week. And bless my primary business partner, because when I told him and my boss about this and how strained I am this week, he sent out an email to his entire team, my boss, her boss, and my entire team that basically said:
"Aria is a wonderful resource and we are lucky to have her! She is also entirely too nice to say to any of us, so I'm going to say no for her. She has several high level and complex priorities due at the end of the week, which are:
<bullet points>
Let's all help her do her best work by not adding anything to her plate or making asks that are unrelated to those things."
My boss and her boss were both super thrilled, pushed one of those things to Monday, then told the groups I'm working with on two of them that the heavy lifting is on them until items #1-3 get done and too bad for them if they don't like that.
I have literally never had managers do something like this for me before. I am simultaneously super grateful and wondering if I maybe somehow stole someone else's life. If I did, screw them. I'm not giving it back.
Guess which manager just exploded one of those three priorities with changes that force me to scrap half of what I've done and can't be fully confirmed until lunch tomorrow, but still expects this to go out the door by EOB?
........
........
........The one who sent the goddamn email.
Bax. Sweetie. You are a darling and I love you and instead of counting how many high-fives you've managed to get from me, maybe you should consider counting the number of times I've threatened to murder you under my breath.

RE: Good TV
Please excuse me while I ugly snot-cry at The Good Place finale.
I haven't watched it yet and I don't wanna watch it cause I don't want it to end but I want to watch it because it's The Good Place but....
They tapped into pretty much exactly that feeling with the finale -- that idea of "When is it okay to end a good thing?" -- and that made it fucking amazing.

@Aria Pet peeve: Couples sharing their social media accounts. The "Nick and Laura" Facebook page kinda deals.
For some reason it irks me so much. Like aren't you people separate beings! Don't you have more than one device connecting to the interwebs?
Those legit creep me out. Like, a lot. AFAIC, the only time they're socially acceptable is when it's an old couple who have an account on these new fangled Facegrams so they can see pictures of their grandkids four states over and wants to leave nice, encouraging comments on your selfie from six months ago.
Grandma gets a pass because she's trying. (And it's always Grandma. Grandpa just puts his glasses on, squints at the phone, and says "Well, isn't that nice?" and then goes back to watching baseball.)

RE: Dating in the 2020's

This is really interesting. I haven't dated in a reaaaally long time but it sounds pretty fascinating that the way we look for romantic interests can (or is!) actually changing society as we know it.
I'm definitely part of this statistic. @insomniac7809 and I met online through the DigiChats when we were teenagers, became friends. Met other online friends who become mutual RL friends. Said mutual RL friends convinced us the other was not an axe murderer and okay to meet in person.
We've only been married since last spring, but our pre-marriage romantic relationship -- not counting the literal years as online RP buds -- has outlasted every single one of my cousin's marriages. One is close on our heels, but she and her wife definitely did the "same sex couple who met online" bit.
Apparently, the family "weirdos" are the ones who got it right. <shrug>

He was under the impression that vaginas will "hold the shape" of the last thing in them
Well. That would make certain prosecutions a whole lot easier.
Honestly, the best part was the look of pure horror on his face (mind you, after I wiped the look off my face at the sheer stupidity of what he just said), when the conversation turned to this:
"Andrew. Aren't you the younger sibling in your family?"
"Yeah, why?"
".....How do you think your father got your mother pregnant with you after your brother was born?" -

The Cincinnati Zoo will also be doing a live Facebook stream featuring one of their animals every day at 3PM, followed by an activity for kids to do at home.
Today is Fiona the hippo.
ETA: The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy will be doing something similar. Every day at 10AM they will be reading a shark-themed book and hosting a Q&A session to follow for kids.

RE: Covid-19 Look for the Helpers?
WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP:
So now that we're all home and looking for "boredom busters" for ourselves and possibly our children, I'd like to recommend this awesome one I found!
It's called "contacting your government representatives and demanding to know WTF they're doing and that you're going to hold them personally responsible for their (in)actions on this".
If you don't know who they are and are in the US, you can look them up -- complete with a quick link to their contact information -- at http://myreps.datamade.us/
Personal requests from several friends of mine in the medical field, including two ICU charge nurses, is not just activating the Defense Production Act (which has already happened) but invoking its powers (which have not) to force major manufacturers to shift production towards PPE for healthcare workers. 3M doesn't need to be making Scotch tape right now. They need to be making face shields and gloves.

@Ganymede JFC. I feel like I just need to start walking around in a shirt that says "I apologize on behalf of white people everywhere. No, really. Sorry."
