So six weeks ago, my mom's dog had her first litter of puppies. The runt of the litter was only 2oz (no, that is not a typo) when he was born, compared to his siblings who all came in at about a pound. I got to meet him yesterday. He's grown to ten times his birth-weight. His name is currently Mouseworks. He fits in my shirt pocket. I am in love.

After having finished "Carnival Row", I'm pretty much just wanting to play a new game myself. With you 100%, Bananerz.

the "stuff to do" section of our wedding website
"Attend our wedding, then do whatever you want you're an adult."
"It's 2019. If they're on our website, they presumably have access to the internet. Fucking Google it."
Honestly, for people travelling in from out of town - and especially out of state - I don't mind providing a few tips on what to check out or some mentions of our favorite places. But two pages has made me feel like we're on the verge of treating a two-day trip to a college town in central Pennsylvania like we're asking our relatives to visit us in a particularly remote region of the globe and need to provide them with a multi-day itinerary including a guided tour by an English-speaking local.
It's not like we're in the mountains of Tibet. I'm pretty sure people will be able to read a menu and check the weather forecast without me, dude.

RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.
....My MIL sent me a two page list of shit to include in the "stuff to do" section of our wedding website. That doesn't include the website links, addresses, or blurbs/reviews she wants included. Just the list.
Two pages.
Two pages.
I've written up bits about nearly a dozen restaurants, several brewpubs/distilleries, shopping, museums, parks, gardens, libraries, sporting events, walking trails, kid's activities, and historic spots (including ones that are just statues) that are all opening/happening in this little college town over the course of one weekend.
I've reached my breaking point. How can you tell?
Duck Pond @ Alumni Center Gardens
There's gardens! And a pond! And ducks! It's cute - and also self-explanatory.This is it. I refuse to write a descriptive review of a fucking duck pond.

RE: Wildly Out of Context
Not something I said, but something I overheard a woman saying on the phone:
"Well, I guess you better hit my ass with that bus then."
Note that while we were both walking towards a large transportation hub in Philly, it's a train station, we were both still a block away, and there were no buses in sight.

RE: Good TV
Only three episodes in (because I went back to rewatch the first season), but the second season of Mindhunter is living up to my expectations.

RE: The Makeup Thread
Oh! Double post, but:
You might also consider a clear mascara. I know that sounds weird, but... it basically does the same thing regular mascara does (make your eye lashes look longer and more defined) without adding any color or clumpiness to them. If you have nice eyes, it's a good way to highlight that feature, again without looking like you put make up on.
Bonus? You can also use it as eyebrow gel, which is exactly what it sounds like. You use it to brush your eyebrows into place and keep them in that shape. Got one with those two weird hairs thar always stick up? Gel 'em down. Or like me, use it to comb and gel some hairs over the chicken pox scar that left a little bald spot in one of them.
Bam. Easy.

RE: The Makeup Thread
@Derp I would also recommend starting with something that is more sheer rather than opaque, as it will be more forgiving in regards to things like color-matching or not-great technique.
Generally speaking, tinted moisturizer is the absolute "lightest" product you can get in terms of coverage. One step up from that is beauty balms, often just labelled "BB creams". One step from that is "CC creams", which is not an alphabetical measurement like bra cups or something, but short for "color correcting" cream.
From there is true foundations, which offer better coverage of skin problems but also tend to be less forgiving in terms of color matching or application. Ever seen someone whose face looked a bit orange compared to the rest of their skin, or looked a bit like there was a heavy layer of something sitting atop their face? That's a foundation problem.
I'd say start with a BB cream. It'll even out your skin tone a bit, make blemishes or spots very slightly less visible, and you can even apply a thin layer with just your fingers the same way you'd put on a moisturizer. There's several inexpensive ones on the market like E.L.F. or Nyx, which is what I use, so you also won't break the bank if you buy a few and try them to see what you like best.
They're even part of what's considered just a pretty standard daily grooming routine for men from all levels of society in Korea, which is where some of the best skin care products are developed. So you don't need to worry that you'll walk around looking like you're wearing makeup, if you have that concern. You'll just look like you, but a little bit better.

RE: The Work Thread
My new favorite thing at work right now is inventing new ways to yell at my closest collaborator to give me some of his work.
For the last several weeks, he's been complaining about how busy he is. And he is! He's super busy, and I know he's stressed. But he's also not delegating at all despite the fact that every time he does, I have one or two questions (because I'm new) and then am off, getting this shit done or finding an easier way to do it or uncovering a hiccup that doesn't affect us now but will in six months, and that we should start pre-planning for this.
He appreciates the help! He says I'm good at it! I have great ideas!
...and then someone else drops a steaming pile of stuff to deal with on his desk, and he starts stressing, and worrying, and complaining about how backlogged his work is, and it's like he forgets I'm sitting right there and that we have had three heart-to-hearts about this.
I think my next tactic is going to be sending wadded up notes sailing over our cubicle wall that just say, "GIVE ME SOME OF YOUR WORK, NERD" on them every time he starts.
Other suggestions welcome.

So today I discovered that Skate the Foundry offers adult beginner skateboarding classes and I am completely losing my shit.
I have wanted to skateboard since I was about 12, but first my parents refused to let me because it wasn't safe, then my skater boyfriend refused to teach me because he broke two vertebrae on an aerial trick (and yet then continued skating himself?), and then I just.... I don't know. Felt too old and embarrassed that I would look like an asshole just trying to stand on a board in a skate park full of teenage boys being little turds about the fat old lady who can't keep her balance.
But now I can be a fat old lady who can't keep her balance in a park full of other old ladies who can't keep their balance and it is going to be fucking awesome.
That actually sounds awesome. I, too, would love to know how to skateboard... but I'm still traumatized (Ok not really but really) by the time I tried when I was like, 12, had the board fly out from under me, and got laughed at the rest of the day.
This was also my experience trying to learn to ride a bicycle because we lived by a highway. I wasn't allowed to ride one unless it was with parental supervision, which like most things about having kids, mine were interested for about a week and then went back to ignoring. My mom somehow got it into her head that she was going to try to make me learn when I was 16 and it was incredibly humiliating, so I refused to try again.
A work friend of mine just went to an adult bike riding class for absolute beginners that we also have in the city and said it was amazing.
I guess Philly is the place to be if you're interested in taking a class on "shit I probably should've learned when I was 8 or something and now feel stupid trying to do in public." I'm planning on going to that one when they open signups again, too. I'm told it fills up a month in advance, every time. So apparently, this is surprisingly common.

way of the business world.
Monday - all the meetings
Tuesday - frantically catch up
Wednesday - ?????
Thursday - OMG WE NEED THIS LAST MINUTE
Friday - oh god how am I gonna get enough done to not feel lost on Mond- ooooh weekendIronically, this is why - when I was the senior admin that did the high level logistics for a department of 150 people - I forced my bosses to have their staff meetings first things on Wednesday mornings. Cause we worked in a department that was supportive for the highest level sales managers, our role was largely responsive/collaborative and this meant that on Wednesdays:
- Everyone was free
- They'd met with their business partners and knew what the ask was
- Had Tuesday to email about/think on it
- Could decide at the meeting and then immediately push it down to their teams
- Come Monday meeting again, could present the solution/product/whatever to their partners....
- Along with "We should have this to you in 48 hours", which sounds really fast but is actually EOD Wednesday and still gave our partners time to make 'last minute changes' while ensuring our teams had at least a full week to do the work
They thought it was crazy until they tried it and discovered that it was awesome.
