@Auspice Hmm, maybe carpooling then? If any of your coworkers start at a similar time and don't live too far from you, I don't see why they wouldn't like to split the gas - and that's also way cheaper than an Uber.

@Auspice I know this isn't a real solution, especially depending on weather or road conditions, but is there a chance an inexpensive bicycle might help? There'd be way less impact and wear and tear for your foot, plus you could cover those 2 miles much faster. It'd be cheaper in the long run than regular Uber rides.

@ThatGuyThere We have no details about how they'll televise it. Like do players pick live? Or do they sit down together in a room and then come out with the rosters, or what.

    • RE: The Basketball Thread

@ThatGuyThere The way I understand it is fans select the total pool voting separately for East and West. Coaches get a say too.

The player with the most votes from each conference is a Captain, and they take turns picking, but they can pick any available player from either conference (i.e. playground rules).

If you're thinking "... LeBron could choose to not pick Kyrie if the other team doesn't pick him?" then yes, yes and yes.

Changes for the NBA All-Star game in 2018:

      1. Team captains will choose their own rosters (no more East vs West)
      2. Teams will play for charity

    • RE: RL Anger

@Tat A few years ago I drove my mom to buy a new washing machine since her old one broke down. She picked one, I paid using my credit card, and the guy promised to deliver it in 3-4 days.

Those 3-4 days turned into a week ("we're still waiting for the model to come in"), then two weeks ("the supplier's delivery truck bringing it to our warehouse had a problem"). I called the store and asked for a refund since my mom needed a washing machine and they said it was complicated 'since I had paid with a credit card', and if I could just wait? I said no, I really wanted a refund, and they basically gave me the runaround.

Fine. I e-mailed my bank and reported this, giving them the full details and asking them to reverse the payment. Which they did within the day - the guy was freaking out at me on the phone about how much work cleaning up the paperwork from that was going to be for him.

I cared less than I perhaps should, and I've always used a credit card when I bought anything of value since... it just gives me more recourse, and a nice paper trail.

@Coin That's possible, sure. And I admit Agents of SHIELD started off as a very procedural (and rather boring) monster-of-the-week show but they improved vastly after Winter Soldier came out.

@Coin It's possible it's the bar that's been raised so high after Netflix got in the game and we also got a barrage of blockbuster superhero movies hitting us with their much higher production values.

I just don't see why exposition needs to be rushed; if a full complex plot of a film can be narrated through better storytelling in a 90 minute span then surely they can afford to be just slightly more patient with a TV show which by definition has way more time to feed it to us. Leave some mysteries in there, don't force-feed everything in one go; do we need a teenage Medusa walking in the room with Bolt to explicitly say "I know everyone is afraid of you but I'm not" in so many words or Maximus giving us the 101 on his relationship to her in another 20 second monologue, right in the first episode?

      Maybe I'm nitpicking too hard, I dunno. I guess I didn't like it. 🙂

    • RE: Good TV

@Coin For me it was the bad acting, the constant and non-stop exposition through dialogue, paper-thin characterisation, what seems to be an absurdly small budget for a superhero series (NASA operate out of an empty warehouse?), the laughably bad special effects (Medusa's hair...). I found them hard to bypass.

Back cracked during the last squat rep this morning, spent a couple of hours in the ER. But at least the doctor was fine about weight training, she advised to just bring the weight a bit down after the symptoms go away and work back up.

In the mean time, I'll live in limp-city for a few days.

@Admiral Well, sure, and you don't have to volunteer PC-identifying information, it's just that "we're banning you because you didn't overreact enough" is a new one. 🙂 And I thought we had seen it all around here.

@Admiral said in Not Ending the World:

I came back, and then reacted very calmly to a staff decision. I was banned for being 'suspiciously calm' about said staff decision.

I feel there is more to this than what you said. Come on. 🙂
