    • RE: Good TV

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is very, very good.

Right now the bar for Marvel's shows is very high. WandaVision ended on a great note and although their second premier TV show is a completely different beast than the first, it's excellent.

I love the chemistry between the two protagonists. It's convincing and often quite funny. The political undertones are also quite well done; in all these shades of gray even the villains have believable motives and it's easy to see how from their perspective they are the good guys.

So far it's going from strength to strength. Great job.

@lisse24 said in MUs That We Would Love To Make (But Won't):

Just finished Rhythm of War and I really, really want a Cosmere game - despite the fact that I generally avoid games based on books, shows, or movies.

I would love that (but I have the same reaction to most of Sanderson's works).

An issue specific to this is how many things we still don't know about how the magic system works, what the next Words are, etc.

More generally though when a MU* is based on books (and especially an unfinished series) where the focus needs to be taken off of the canonical characters and shifted over to the PCs, funny things happen in the transition.

    • Posters and decoration

      Hey folks,

I just moved and I'm looking to personalize my home office. I'm looking to buy some cool stuff - posters, banners, etc - to hang up on my new walls! I don't know exactly what I'm looking for yet but hopefully I'll know when I see it.

Any interesting geeky sites you know of? It can be well known stuff like LotR, Star Wars, etc but please feel free to suggest more niche geeky places if you have something in mind.

      Thanks!

So I don't think a lone Mage 2E game was really going to be a hit.

In my opinion a lone Mage 2E game has a much better chance of working than a mixed-sphere one.

The reason for that is Mages tend to outshine other splats, and their thematic affairs tend to take over everyone else's, but you can make a robust setting based on just them.

Would that be a 'hit' ? I don't know what your definition of the term is in this context so I can't tell. But it can absolutely be fun, I think.

Gene Kelly would have been an excellent Superman in his day.

      Or Nicolas Cage!

@coin That's fair. Okay, So Christopher Reeves and Brandon Routh. I will accept either of them. Anyone else is just pretending.

It's probably just nostalgia but I quite enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Lois and Clark when I first watched it.

That said, Dean Cain these days... meh.

In Superman & Lois they have teenage twins they have raised together. Just a tiny bit of a technical difference.

Which was also hilarious because... those kids must be as blind as their mom, it must be a genetic thing, since they didn't realize his secret identity either.

What the hell, they had never seen Clark without glasses on their whole lives? 🙂

I really liked it, too. It was a bit overly melodramatic but that was definitely to be expected and I am glad they are doing something that hasn't been done with Superman before (actually exploring a future with a family).

The other thing is... I don't know if it's because they had more money to spend on the pilot but the special effects were pretty decent.

Superman's suit in particular looked great. His cape may be CGI, I can't even tell.

Superman & Lois episode 1 was fun. It was by far the most human version of the characters I've seen; I cared much more about the Clark family drama than I did about the super heroic antics, which is probably a pretty good sign.

It certainly wasn't what I expected, although that might be because I hadn't been watching their guest star appearances throughout the Arrowverse.

    • RE: Real World Peeves, Disgruntlement, and Irks.

We're still renting a house at a relatively low rent since it can only be hiked so much per year, and we moved in before rents went crazy in the GTA.

My landlord sent us a notice to evict in order to move in, which is the only legal way he can do so. However he also wants to show the house since if he can find a buyer he'll cash out instead.

What this actually means is that, during a pandemic, we have to let multiple groups of strangers wander into the house with 24 hours' notice. I'm working from home, which impacts me. The landlord has even asked on a number of occasions if we 'can do something about the dogs' or if we can just not be at the house at all when people drop by.

On top of it the idea that we have to move out to let the landlord move in unless he finds a buyer to be in bad faith, since the eviction date was set under the assumption a buyer won't be found. I can't simply wait to find out what the case will be, since then there might not be enough time to find a new place.

Also I hate moving in general but that's a separate peeve altogether.

@eye8urcake I don't write the plugins nodeBB uses so I can't change that functionality. I'm only an admin for technical reasons, and even that can be revoked by Gany.

    • RE: Sensitivity in gaming

One difference would be whether it focuses on the wound and its significance - does that mean the character is scarred for life, incapacitated and needs to be carried, is there mortal danger, do they need to just grit their teeth and fight through, etc - versus focusing too much on the physical properties of the damage itself.

Both can be equally disturbing but in just different ways. Saving Private Ryan versus The Human Centipede.

The Sound of Music was my first favorite movie. When I watched it as a kid I didn't know what it was, or for that matter what a musical was, and I had to look at the newspaper afterwards to even figure out its name.

But damn, I loved it so much. This man was a legend. RIP.
