FYI for someone to tell Stardust & Luxor ... Encore here ... internet down. Being fixed tonight. Just wanted to give a heads up.
I think I'd literally kill for a Shadowrun game.
So I've been playing now here for a few weeks. And I have to say, I'm happy I came out of MU retirement to play here. The staff are great and the players that I've interacted with are friendly and provide some good RP. There's about 30-40 people on at peak times, which is a decent size.
I actually rather like the Guest Star system they have. It makes sense and provides some good foundation. I haven't seen any abuse with it at all. And the transfer system where you can transfer a character from elseMU is nice too.
All the game really needs at this point are more bodies. So if you're looking for a good place to RP with things still new enough to get in on the ground floor in the various spheres (they have Vampire, Changelings, Ferals, Immortals and Mortal/Mortal+), I can highly recommend.
I play a couple of characters there ... Book, a Warden and owner of a supernatural neutral ground bar and Caius, Ordo Dracul vampire (and a transfer from the character I played on Cofab). Come and join us!
I'm feeling much the same way. For a few episodes I was like, "Okay... this might go somewhere interesting ..." and then didn't.
Madame Gao was one of the best parts of the show. She's a fascinating villain ... I mean ... centuries old and from one of the Heavenly Capitals (Kun-Zi I think). Is she or isn't she Iron Fist's enemy? She does seem to help him at times ... and doesn't want to kill him outright. I saw someone speculate that its possible that she is the Mother Crane. Anyway... cool character. Have liked her ever since DD.
The ending was WTF. Seriously ... Joy. WTF. She's never met Davos but they were talking like they knew each other. I don't get that at all.
I've been on hiatus a couple years. Just getting back and made an Immortal on Fear & Loathing running a bar for supes, so I get to interact with lots of spheres. Its small, but has great potential I think. The player base is very good and the staff are very easy to work with. Also working on creating my character on City of Hope, but that is taking longer.
It would be nice to see F&L fleshed out with more players. So you know ... shameless plug ... and all that
So playing the new DLC for Crusader Kings II called Monks & Mystics. Another big game changer and even after 5 years makes the game a whole new experience. I believe Steam currently has all previous CKII stuff on sale for like £30 (marked down from £178, so big savings). So its a good time to get it all if you haven't yet. Go ... go and play a secret Satanist!
@Auspice I discovered GBBO when I moved to the UK a few years ago. Became my favourite thing ever. There is an American version of the show, which you can track down from various sources. Its ... I saw the first season and while it had the same format as GBBO, it was distinctly American. After nearly 4 years here I'm much more sensitive to the American taste of things. But it is entertaining if you're wanting more.

Anyone starting on Torment: Tides of Numenera?
I'm going to start my game probably tonight. They said you could do a bit of the start without the final release update tomorrow messing with the game or save file. Definitely been looking forward to it. I've been playing Numenera since it first released and was an early backer. Great setting, mechanics and everything.
Medical Officer Helen Frost should be reporting for duty around the same time. I hope to have her done tonight or tomorrow and ready for approval. Whee
For others on the Techno train ...
I've created my bit ... name Frost.
She'll be a Progenitor and the med officer for the ship. Working out details. Page me if you're on
I'll need to pull out my Techno stuff too ... but I'm totally in @Autumn if you'll have me. I could use some MU RP. Its been too long. I could be a ship's doctor or something?
Oh gosh ... that is almost tempting enough to step out of retirement.
@Auspice said in Fires of Hope: A Star Wars Story:
But I also don't want a game that's All Jedi All the Time (unless it's like, a specific Jedi Academy game which now that I think about it could be pretty awesome).
Yeah that was the foundation of my game. Based on the Chu'unthor Jedi training ship. it really worked. There were tiered apps to play Padawans, Jedi or Masters (anyone could app them, but you did have certain requirements to providing RP if you apped in a full Knight or Master). People could play any non-Jedi like thing they wanted as well, including the crew of the Chu'unthor and other roles on various planets and a lot of people had their Jedi and a non-FS alt.
I think it was pretty awesome. But again, it requires certain narrative set up. Fires of Hope is set in a time with few Jedi left. Now, one could play with the narrative of the sector of space they're in and say there is a cadre of surviving and in-hiding Jedi and allow FS openly through that (as well as just base Force Sensitives) and such. There are lots of narrative ideas to make it work.
I do think though if you're going to play in that period, you either play with the narrative to make it work or you just don't allow it at all and leave Force users as NPCs.
On SW games that had restrictions/apps/FCs etc to take care of the Force apps, it always lead to drama. If avoiding that drama is what you're intending, then find some way to not have a gatekeeping mechanic. Either allow Force users from the get go and tweak the lore in that region of space to explain why you might have a cadre of Jedi or force users or whatever there ... there are a lot of narrative choices there, OR set the game in a time/place where it becomes a moot point ... I specificially chose 100 BBY on the Chu'unthor for the setting of my Star Wars game for this reason, totally freed up Force/Jedi apps .... OR don't have them at all. Like at all except as an occassional NPC plot villain/quest giver or whatever.
Any other system I've seen used, in the end just didn't work, created confusion or frustration and certainly brought about resentment.
I will say I find it funny that most people I've talked to .... their favourite characters are Lyle,Dr. Seward (I think is who you mean by Dr. Sawyer) and Catriona.
I'd actually watch a show based on those three encountering Victorian Gothic horror
Good points ... as for the cancelling though, its been confirmed that the creators of the show informed Showtime early during season 2 that the story was going to end with season 3. So the channel execs could plan for that. They decided not to release that information earlier because they felt that if people knew it was going to end, they might predict how.
I agree on the dangling plot threads ...
SPOILERS
Dorian Grey: I felt like his story, or at least his role in the bigger story, had a nice completion with that monologue on immortality and that beautiful last shot of him alone in his parlor. I mean his story could continue, but that one scene summed up the character of Dorian perfectly (both TV show and book Dorian).
Lily Frankenstein: Yeah ... that's a tougher one. They could have done more there. Also did you notice that Dorian nor Lily seemed phased or paying attention to the Fog in London at all? Surely they've noticed, but not even a comment? I mean ... the End of Days is certainly something new for Dorian. I think otherwise Dorian's final monologue applies to Lily. She's going to have to come to grips with that reality. I think her story had the most potential wasted.
The Creature/John Clare: Such a sad story. I'm happy with where it ended. Yes, it could go other places, but I felt his story had a nice ending ... and the poem he reads in the final scene at Vanessa's grave. Wow.
Dr. Frankenstein: Yeah, his story was done in regards to the show.
Dr. Jekyll: I LOVED how they turned the Jekyll/Hyde thing from a potion he drinks that turns him into a monster, to a social change (become upper class as he has craved) and so colder, like a monster. There is lots to explore there and I think he was just introduced too late in the show.
Vanessa: Her story ended. Perfectly. Could not have been more perfect. It was after all about her.
Ethan: Ditto. His story is entirely dependent on Vanessa's
... Same goes for Sir Malcolm.
I think they could have done much more, definitely another season's worth. I mean Dracula is still alive. Hyde could become a villain. Maybe Lyle who is now in Egypt (my favourite character of the show) summons our protagonists to Egypt to deal with a Mummy issue. Not sure ... lots of potential. But as a story about Vanessa Ives ... I think it ended well.
Sorry no /spoiler ability
Sadly Penny Dreadful is done. Apparently it was always designed as a 3 season show, basically a play in three acts. And I have to say it ended beautifully. I actually like that the creators aren't dragging it on and making the story up as they go along. Knowing that they had a concise narrative to tell from the beginning makes me appreciate it more. One of the best TV shows I've seen in a long time. And that last episode. Holy crap.
Catriona Hartigan is the New Cool.
That depends entirely on whether or not there's a Season 4, I think. Which seems...questionable. At best.
Why would it depend? She's still the New Cool. DON'T TAKE THIS AWAY FROM ME.
I her. She's great.
in fact, most of the female characters of Penny Dreadful have been very compelling.
And man, Jekyll, Victor, and Dorian made a horrifying trio.
Hey .... I do with an old friend of mine. More YouTube than Twitch. We do bits of content here and there depending on our busy schedules. I do plan on increasing my Twitch streaming in the fall when my schedule is more stable and I'm not flying back and forth across the Atlantic
