RE: Good Music
I'm not sure there's any part of this that isn't awesome. I love this musician:

RE: Travel Connections
A lot of it depends on time, day, and destination. What cities do you want to travel to, and what times? If there's a hub involved, costs can go down. I just got my housemate a round trip from MN to FL for less than 300 ..though honestly, I'm thinking it's because nobody in their right mind wants to go to Florida in July.
If there's an airline that handles the route, get a club membership. I flew from CA to IL for work a lot, and I would often bump to first or get free flights from miles and using the card. Club membership is worth it if you travel 3+ times a year, hands down. Better seats, free checking luggage, sometimes better boarding options as well.

It means I don't forget anything and I don't impulse buy.
No force in the universe can stop my impulse buy.
Oh, I can plan. I have to plan or I'll never make it out of wherever I am going with the things I need, that I know I'll forget upon crossing the threshold(I maintain this is the sole use of Amazon -- for the 5 minutes I can remember I need a new toothbrush, or bulbs, or, you know, FOOD, I can log in and click that damned buy button secure in the knowledge that after I forget to get it again, it'll at least be on the way.
No amount of planning seems to prevent the impulse buy, though. Whatever part of my brain allows me to follow that plan or form habits is gone. I couldn't even get addicted to cigarettes in the 90's when I tried.

RE: Hosting and codebase recs
Well, it looks like DO is the likely option for hosting.
My system plan requires a simple character sheet/data repo, XP tracker, and die roller. Those are the only "non-standard" elements I need to get the game off the ground. It looks like those can be done in any codebase. If there's anything to drop in for M&M, it would make the decision pretty much automatic.
I do want a nice wiki interface, I admit to rather liking those.

Hosting and codebase recs
Okay, I'll be getting some hosting for my MU this week. I have seen some specialty MU* hosting companies out there. Any reason I should consider them over a simple VM setup? I have had one recommendation for Digital Ocean so far as well. For those who run the games, what works reliably?
Aaand, for codebase, I'm not married to anything in particular. Seeing as I don't code MU at the moment, recommendations for easy codebases to work in OR codebases that I can get assistance with would be welcome.

RE: What Types of Games Would People Like To See?
Something based off of Tiger and Bunny.
You too can be one of the premier names in rescue entertainment! But.. can you top the charts to be the seasons best?
Find out weeknights at 5:00 and 9:00, only on HERO TV [tm].

RE: General Video Game Thread
I could do it, but have requirements. And would rule it with an iron fist, which people might not enjoy.
JuntaMU. Players are all bucking for the position of head ruler, and gunning for it at the same time. Or would that be TropicoMU?
More fully on topic, has anyone found a technique that renders things like FO4 and Borderlands playable for people with eye tracking issues other than shrinking the display window size?

@gryphter I think at that point you are almost at Rising Stars.

RE: A fully OC supers MU
So, to out myself as a complete nerd:
I got started with Champions in the 80's -- Mutants and Masterminds, to me, seems like a speedy and streamlined(simple) combat resolution system, perfect for online use. Of the recent supers games I played on, those that used the system had pretty great playerbases, and there was that edge of spice you get when you cannot utterly predict an outcome(and usually no narrative arguments).
Additionally, I ran a lot of scenes. The biggest slowdown was never the mechanics of the system; it was, of course, pose lag or slow player response. +rolls and interpretation thereof didn't take long at all by comparison.
That said, I have been looking at a couple other systems. I know that the M&M system has had several MU iterations and has been coded numerous times, and that the other systems if I use them might need some developing from scratch. If there's usable M&M code out there, that makes life a lot easier.
As for actual setup, I'm looking at a couple hosting solutions. If anyone has advice there, I'll happily take it. I figure I'd grab a yearly package and stand it up, then look for assistance with tool code depending on which codebase I go with(again, advice taken).
..and then I'll talk about my other OC supers MU idea. >.>

No video game I've ever encountered that I can think of has come close to achieving what FF6 did with character themes/leitmotifs. There are some wonderful, notable video game soundtracks, no question. But what FF6 pulled off is in a class of its own.
Have you played any of Supergiant's games? Bastion, Transistor, Pyre? Their musical direction and use of mood and character themes, up to and including re-recording a song for characters undergoing trauma, has impressed me a great deal.
That's true, Bastion is pretty damn close to that level, and Transistor moreso. I haven't played Pyre to judge.
Pyre.. as much of a musical leap as Transistor was over Bastion, Pyre is over Transistor.

Uh, probably the first one? I was a spiky morlock who just wanted to cook, IIRC.

A fully OC supers MU
Yeah, I loved playing on them, so I'm thinking of standing one up.
I'm strongly considering an Academy style game where the PCs are students. I have a lot of world and lore already built. I love to run scenes, build stories, and do long plots.
I'm partial to the Mutants and Masterminds system for MU resolution, though I am reading a few other supers rulesets right now, because total dork.
How does that bounce off of people?

RE: Recycling characters
I know I have carried a concept over a few times, but I tend to generate backgrounds and descriptions uniquely. There was a period in the 90's when I tended towards a very similar description for characters, but I grew out of all that when I became fascinated by building powerfully flawed characters for each setting. Now I'm old and lazy and I want all my PBs to be either Abe Vagoda or Vic Tayback, regardless of character particulars.
