@Auspice Right? And the thing that kills me is that every week, Monday is my worst day. I have at least four meetings every Monday, forever.
Meanwhile, I have literally nothing on Wednesdays. Pretty much ever.
Whyyyyyyyyyy?
way of the business world.
Monday - all the meetings
Tuesday - frantically catch up
Wednesday - ?????
Thursday - OMG WE NEED THIS LAST MINUTE
Friday - oh god how am I gonna get enough done to not feel lost on Mond- ooooh weekend -

@Auspice This is a thing I did not know about and now I want to do it.
Doooooo eeeeeeet.
The first part of the pattern drops on the 11th. It's free to participate. You just gotta buy your materials (thankfully I had aida cloth on hand and, as noted above, about half the colors).Michaels right now has 40% off (your whole order!) if you place an order online for in-store pickup (which is honestly hella convenient since they hold it for 5 days). Skeins of DMC are usually around $0.56 so NOT EXPENSIVE AT ALL (esp. when you factor the 40% off....)

Sparkling Yerba Mate.
I never would have thought to try it, but a coworker shared some with me yesterday (Lemon Lime flavor) and today I bought one after work (Raspberry). These things are fucking delicious. Y'all can have your LaCroix and shit. I'mma drink this.
I would be down for some blackberry and peach.
Also, I can't remember where I saw this but it still makes me laugh so here it goes again:

@Auspice I remember when a co-worker helped me find out how to know if something was kosher, since he kept it. He totally was eager to tell me reese's peanut butter cups were Kosher.
Oreos are vegan.

I won’t.
Because everyone bothers me.
And I dislike it when people start requests with: “I don’t mean to disturb you ...”
You don’t? Then don’t.
This is probably more of a peeve.
See, the preferred phrasing there would be: 'I'm sorry to disturb you.'
Because sometimes disruptions are a necessity, but 'I don't mean to...' is a rather selfish way of phrasing it. It says: 'I actually don't care but I'll say something so you're more amenable to helping me.'

The Work Thread
Sometimes I want to say something re: work, but it doesn't really categorize anywhere else. Is it a thing I love? Maybe not entirely. Is it anger or disgruntlement? No.
Sometimes it just is.
So here's a thread for us to discuss jobs. Be it complaining about. Looking for advice. WHATEVER.
Job it up.
My thing of the moment: I've been fighting imposter syndrome because I've never worked on a tech writing project on this scale. And in a new industry, to boot.
They believe in me. I believe in myself. But man I'm a month in and only just starting to ease up a little.
I submitted the outline (as a Table of Contents) this week (proud of self: deadline was today, I delivered on Wednesday). I braced for impact in the form of tons of critique......
....my boss told me she loves it and is sending it up the line for further review.
Now I just need to move from barebones outline to working outline and I'm mired in that pit of 'tons of raw data that's mostly organized.'
Ugh.

I am going to check this out! I've had to get mine from Fresh Market, which is what would result if people decided Whole Foods wasn't sufficiently bougie.
god, so fucking true.
There was a Fresh Market in SC that I stopped in a couple times (because I'd be in the shopping center for other things) and oh lawd the glares and eyeballs I'd get.
Whole Foods is pricey, but at least I can shop there without getting the stink eye (here in Austin even moreso since I don't stand out as much as I did in the southeast).

One of these days I'll make actual money.
I'm still telling myself this.
Yet here I am, thrilled to be in a 6-month contract, making $15k/yr under average for the role. -
RE: Good TV
@Auspice Season 3 wasn't crowdfunded. The movie was!
That's right. After I hit submit on the post I was like '....wait, maybe it was the movie.'
I'm pretty brain fried today.

When someone is miserable about themselves, and they're slowly getting better, do not tell them "oh but you're getting better!" when they tell you they're miserable.
I KNOW I'M IMPROVING. I WANT TO BE IMPROVED.
Yeah I feel this pretty hard. It's an almost forever-battle that gives and takes as time goes on. You can have a string of good days, maybe a week, maybe a month, and then it'll attack again out of nowhere. Back to the bottom of the pit.
I believe in you.
Oh yes. I know this well.
Living in the southwest has done wonders for my fibro, but it can still hit bad if I'm not careful. So the 'but you're better!' is kind of vexing I know. Because you want them to understand its a 'better as compared to...' or'better for now' and you're terrified they'll be annoyed as if you did it on purpose when your illness flares up anew. -

There's a reason for this.
They expect their developers to document as they go.I think the reason is even more insidious than that.
Technical people don't like reading instructions. (Ironic, right?)
So there's this pervasive philosophy that documentation is worthless.
So nobody writes documentation. Or if they do, they half-ass it.
So then the documentation IS worthless or non-existent.
So then nobody will even consider hiring a tech writer or becoming better at documentation or whatever because they feel that documentation is useless.
And you get this vicious self-fulfilling cycle.
I've written MOUNTAINS of documentation that nobody has ever read. It makes me sad.
This is true, too. I forgot this point, thank you.
There's a blog I enjoy (I'd Rather be Writing) and he discusses both the points I and Faraday made.
Documentation could be good, but unless companies start hiring more technical writers (and treating them right; I could go into detail on that but I won't rn)... it's probably going to continue sucking in the grand scheme of things.
